Hated Dance of the Clairvoyants at first. Growing on my slightly. I’m seeing them in Denver so we’ll see how it is live.
Agree. Don’t think they give a fuck anymore just doing what they feel like doing. Interesting to listen to that song and then listen to Blood and think it’s the same band.
I don’t fault them for it, they’ve earned it. I’ll listen to the new album because it’ll be there on google music to stream, but, like the last few albums, I don’t expect it to pull me in.
They are in their mid 50s at this point. It’s inevitable, not a bad thing either I’ll always be a fan.
Ohhh I agree. I mean I’m flying to Denver just to see them live for the 5th time. Just hope they don’t do what they did for the backspacer and riot act tours and play 8 songs off the new album when I see them where I’m just thinking stop with this thumbing my way bullshit and just fucking play footsteps and present tense.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen them and I don’t think I have ever seen them play less than 20 songs. I’d be interested to see what shows they did that for.
I meant they played a lot of songs from the newest album. Every band usually does it but I dislike most songs from Riot Act, Backspacer and Lightning Bolt so I would get annoyed when they would play a lot of those songs. Songs I like on those: Riot Act- Save You, I am Mine, Get Right, You Are Backspacer- Got Some, The Fixer, Unthought Known (best PJ song in years) Lightning Bolt- Getaway, Mind Your Manners and that's about it.
Gotcha, yeah unfortunately they’ll do that IMO. Best times I caught them in the last decade we’re shows in between albums for that reason.
I will say that their set list selection has drastically improved over the past decade. Go back and look at those 2000 era bootleg set lists compared to now and they play so many great songs now that went unplayed for years and years. It's great knowing you may just randomly hear Alone or Brother if you go to a show.
I think they've decided at times we're going to rock it out again. It's very clear they aren't trying to please anyone at this point and are doing what they want that keeps them wanting to play together. I have no problem with that but I'll always wish for something more Avocadoish.
I got to hear Crown of Thorns live. I agree with you as well, that's what I was saying when they play those shows between albums they tend to break those out a bit more. That's another thing that makes them so great live, they play so much they have to switch it up. Also always funny when Ed completely forgets lyrics.
Yeah he fucked up Corduroy I think when I saw them one time. Stone had to walk over and tell him the verse. He always drops an "ahhh fuck" when he misses up.
I need some SE shows this fall. Promised my 7 year old I would take him to a PJ show and he's already pissed I'm going to Denver and not taking him.
Sounds like 80s pop/new wave. Like they've been listening to the Cars, Eurythmics and maybe some Depeche Mode.
They haven't been that band since Ed started hanging out with Neil Young and got him to change the way he sings.
Went through the shows I've seen and there are still a lot of songs I haven't heard live that I want to: Oceans DIssident Leash Last Exit STBC Not For You Tremor Crist Somtimes In My Tree Habit Brain of J Faithful Wishlist Pilate All those Yesterdays God's Dice World Wide Suicide RITFW
Not a huge fan of Backspacer nor LB. Was lucky to see 3 of the full album shows so that helped check a lot of songs off my list. Moline/Milwaukee 2014 and Greenville 2016.
My family lives in Greenville so almost went to that show. Couldn’t make it work because of work though.
This is the track list apparently 1. Who Ever Said(Unreleased) 2. Superblood Wolfmoon(Unreleased) 3. Dance Of The Clairvoyants 4. Quick Escape(Unreleased) 5. Alright (Unreleased) 6. Seven O’Clock(Unreleased) 7. Never Destination(Unreleased) 8. Take The Long Way(Unreleased) 9. Buckle Up(Unreleased) 10. Comes Then Goes(Unreleased) 11. Retrograde(Unreleased) 12. River Cross(Unreleased)
Got to see them live in Columbia, SC in 16. Dad/Daughter had a sign that it was like their 16th show together or something along those lines and asked for them to play chole dancer/crown of thorns. Best concert I’ve ever been to. Awesome
Ok which one's about Trump? I'm thinking maybe retrograde, but they're not making it as obvious as they did during the bush presidency
Pearl Jam changed for the better after that tour. They became a lot more fun with their shows. I saw them in Atlanta for Bushleaguer and it killed all the fun of the show. Had like 10 guys dress up in Bush masks while they were pretend beaten.
