Hello friends. The last big boxing card of 2019 is a fun one. SHO, 9:00 pm ET, Gervonta Davis vs Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jean Pascal vs Badou Jack, Jose Uzcategui vs Lionell Thompson. Davis-Gamboa is for the vacant WBA “world” lightweight title; the real WBA title is held by Vasiliy Lomachenko. I’ve hated the idea of Davis-Gamboa since it was being floated prior to their July wins in Baltimore, and that didn’t lessen when Gamboa sparked out old, no-feet Rocky Martinez. But I don’t think this will be boring, I expect an explosive fight that frankly isn’t going to last too long. Pascal-Jack is a big fight for both at 175; Pascal has the WBA’s secondary belt (real one held by Dmitry Bivol) and is coming off of a somewhat fluky upset win over Marcus Browne, who beat Jack in January largely thanks to Jack losing an obscene amount of blood over 12 rounds. The winner here stays in the race, the loser is kind of out of it for the time being, though I won’t be surprised if weirdo Pascal keeps hanging around against the odds until he’s 45 even if he comes up short here. Uzcategui-Thompson is a fight.
Tank is two rounds away from a really disappointing decision win over a shot Gamboa. Let’s see if Tank can get him up out of the paint.
This is a big signing. Taylor can fight Jose Ramirez, and also can move up to 147 and fight Crawford.
mediocre. The 1 prospect I like watching American heaveywreight Sonny Conto. He’s one of Fury’s sparring partners. Philly boy
Main event of that ESPN card is at least intriguing on paper, with Hart-Smith Jr. Same goes for DAZN, with Munguia fighting Spike O’Sullivan.
James Kinney is the judge. Either corrupt or incompetent. Either way, he doesn’t need to judge another fight.
There’s a FOX card, but here’s the best card tonight. ESPN, 10:00 pm ET, Eleider Alvarez vs Michael Seals, Felix Verdejo vs Manuel Rey Rojas. Alvarez-Seals isn’t a bad fight as Alvarez looks to bounce back and Seals looks to bust through at 37. Seals is pretty much always fun, the guy comes to war. Verdejo, now 26, feels like he’s about 32. He wasn’t exactly thrilling last April against Bryan Vasquez and there are serious doubts about how badly he really wants this. The talent’s always been there, the desire more of a question. The idea appears to be to keep him in relatively easy enough fights that maybe he’ll wake up one day with the mentality that matches his gifts.
Thanks for the reminder. Out of town for a concert. Danny should wreck shop. SHO, 9:00 pm ET, Danny Garcia vs Ivan Redkach, Jarrett Hurd vs Francisco Santana, Stephen Fulton vs Arnold Khegai. Garcia and Hurd are back in tune-ups from Brooklyn, but they should at least be decent TV. Redkach is a reckless warrior who always comes to bang, and Danny usually matches up for fun with guys like that. It’s also Garcia looking to face a southpaw to stay sharp for either Errol Spence Jr (whom he was supposed to be fighting on PPV on this date) or Manny Pacquiao later this year. Hurd has a new team and is sort of resetting his career a bit, with the possibility of another title shot next should he win. Fulton-Khegai is a good matchup of unbeaten 122-pounders.
Lord this Hurd fight is a snoozefest. He looks awful. I know new trainer and trying new stuff but man
Knocks him down with 10 seconds left in the fight. About 25 minutes later than it should have happened
Danny Garcia just started. That tweet was between the Hurd and Garcia fight. Just maybe an accidental click by someone on their twitter
