Hayes spends all this time trying to find Julie and end the end Julie helps Hayes find himself when he has his dementia episode. Also - what good is it for Hayes to tell Julie her whole life is a lie? She seems happy, why ruin that?
I didn't see Wayne handing Henry Julie's address as a tactic to get his son to further investigate the story. Instead I saw it very literal in that Wayne forgot why he had the hand-written address and gave it to his son, and Henry knowing his father has been consumed with this case for the majority of his adult life took it upon himself to keep the note and think about seeing what it meant instead of throwing it away.
This take is so so so spot on. These true crime documentaries are now the new JFK assassination, Bigfoot, Lochness, whatever the fuck. People cannot deal when there's no closure or conclusiveness to a story. They want it to keep going and find the "real" answer.
Two more things: 1. I never got invested in Amelia/Wayne relationship. 2. The jungle I saw it as going back to episode 1 when Roland explains how Wayne was a scout/hunter-type in Vietnam and would be gone for days in the depths of the jungle. Wayne lived an obsessive life and was a searcher and hunter.
I think you guys are forgetting that the finale of season one also sucked. I thought this finale was a lot better actually. I didn't follow all those stupid theories and wasn't expecting some stupid twists and just enjoyed that last episode. I liked it a lot and I'd put it just below season one as a whole.
Also lol at everyone all pissed about not knowing why he fell out with the daughter who was in like two scenes total. Who gives a fuck
Looking to start a new series until football season, was S3 any good? Better, worse or about the same from S2?
Way better than S2. I enjoyed it just as much as season 1. If you want a short series also try Chernobyl. That’s an amazing 5 week mini series.
I just finished season one. I watched s2e1 for about 15 minutes. At that point it became pretty clear rust and Marty weren’t getting off a plane at LAX. It’s going to take me a bit to accept this and move on.
The guy who wrote Season 1 worked on it for a decade. It was his life’s work. Then it was a huge hit and HBO said “Make another.” Just accept it as a one season limited series that stands on its own. The other seasons are fine, I just think of them as a whole separate thing.
I'd almost say Mare of East Town was more of a sequel to True Detective than season 2 was. Season 3 was solid though.
Team “season 2 is still better than most tv out there”. It had the unfortunate reality of coming after a flawless and impeccable season 1
I think Season 2 could’ve been good if they stretched it into another season. Way too much going on for such a short time frame
I liked a lot of what season 2 tried. I just think in the end it missed the mark on execution. I loved the modern day noir vibes though.
Interesting. Kind of assumed that since the shows creator was gone this show was done. They should bring back Cary Fukinaga for this season. Probably too busy now though.
HBO probably won’t have him back but I think he’s available, the last project of his I read about fell apart after MM backed out
I have watched season 1 6-7 times. I couldn’t get past episode 2 of season 2. I didn’t think season 3 was terrible but have no intention of ever watching it again
I think the setting really made season one. That and the two main characters were great. I also think Cary Fukinaga probably had more to do with that seasons success than people realized.
I got a YouTube recommendation or whatever you call it or Colin Farrell beating up the bully’s dad, that was wild
“I will come back here and buttfuck your father with your mother’s headless corpse on this goddamn lawn” is one of my all-time favorite lines
I ain’t like that Colin Farrel shit even though I stand in solidarity with my Irish brothers.. that being said, Marshala and Dorf were enough to hard carry the flaws of the Arkansas joint and make me wanna watch Al Pacino reprise his role from insomnia
no offense to Foster, but she's going to have to work hard in this role to stop me from seeing a grown up Clarice Starling.
