On one hand I hope he wins. I think it’s pathetic teams have this ability. It should’ve been removed long ago. On the other hand the Cubs played within the system agree upon by the players and owners. It just sucks and ultimately will hang over the entire offseason and maybe radically change what we do.
Anyone with a BA sub? If so please post... https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2020-chicago-cubs-top-mlb-prospects/
Do we have any season ticket holders in here? I got an email about buying season tickets for the upcoming season and I'm trying to determine whether it's worth it or not. I don't live in Chicago so I'd likely only make it for 5-10 regular season games through the year. I don't really care about making a profit off the tickets selling them second hand but would at least like to be close to breaking even on them minus the games I go to. So what's everyone's experience been like, have they been worth it or no? Really the biggest benefit would be the access to playoff tickets.
I live there but one of my boys from Tampa has like third row between home and third base dugout. He eats them constantly so I either get them free or on the cheap. Dudes eaten $1000s the last couple years.
Let’s talk when he gets his allotment this year. I’ll save him (and me) some fees. Between me and a few others, we can probably get 10% of those tix.
Season tickets are great. Get them. Having said that, it’s gonna be a loooong season. Looks like KB is on the way out as Ricketts wants to get under the luxury threshold.
I think the Bryant thing seems to be more the dude's agent is pissed and refuses to come to the table on an extension. The names being floated in return for Bryant are beyond underwhelming. If you move this guy it must be for a massive return. On the flip side the rumors about Wilson seem to be motivated by money / having a good player behind him on the ML level and a stud that should be up in a year or two. That makes sense on a few levels even though people hate the idea of moving Wilson.
Correct. So obviously its gonna be a package with very close to big league prospects. Teams that fit the need for Bryant and have the type of prospects to make it happen... Atlanta, Dodgers. My guess is that's one of the landing spots.
I honestly don’t understand this “fuck the Ricketts” outrage. Ricketts didn’t sign the Hayward deal, the Chatwood deal. Ricketts didn’t ship off the next wave of prospects to bring in Q, Chapman. The Cubs still have an enormous payroll. People expecting us to spend like the Yankees or Dodgers? Ricketts can’t control the fact that MLB took 4 years to figure out this Bryant shit or that his agent loves to take guys to the FA market. At some point you can’t continue to compound the mistakes made by making more mistakes. Oh and let’s not forget the 100 plus years of shit ownership and management that all changed under Ricketts... and that trophy he was critical in bringing to the franchise. But yeah.. fuck the Ricketts.
Yes. We have a Top-5 MLB brand and revenue, especially with the new TV network. Spend the fucking money and keep winning titles. In the long run, the franchise becomes more profitable.
And a small bit more relative to total payroll would immensely strengthen the club and give us a shot at a title.
Fuck the Ricketts because they're disgusting. Also, fuck the Ricketts for turning Wrigleyville into cookie cutter theme park bullshit
Spending tons of money on guys with only a few years left in their prime is what the old ownership did and where did that get us? I would love to sign all the big names and win a title every year but it's just not possible. Hell the Yankees have spent like crazy and when was their last title with this big payroll. The Bryant deal has held up management for signing or making more deals, now we know what we have to work with this coming year. I still think we will be competitive this year, we also had lots of injuries last year that sort of held us back down the stretch. The one thing that worries me is our pitching, we need some of our prospects to pay off cause no team can afford to go out and sign new starters all the time, it's just not cost effective.
I think most of our top end starting pitching prospects are going to be in AA this year. I think most project to be 2021 or 2022 impacts. I know the franchise has re-shaped how its pitching and hitting development over the last year so maybe we begin to see some quicker results on guys. Rea, Miller, Abbott, Alzolay all could be a part of this years rotation/pen and are in AAA. I'm not sure any of them are top line prospects but they have talent. I really love Keegan Thompson and of course Marquez who will be in Tennessee
Just finished the Kris Bryant presser. Man fuck the idea of trading that guy. He should be a cub for life. If we do move him I’ll be dressed for some time. Love that guy.
Long overdue but fuck the Ricketts family. As much as I love this team I’m not spending another dollar on tickets, merchandise, that fraud of a network etc. while these assholes are supporting Trump. Fuck you all, I’ll see you in hell.
No worries... baseball is never coming back. Owners to busy laying off all these minor league players.
Damn, I hope Contreras stays this hot into the regular season. He's hit two more homers tonight. Also Lester looking excellent against a Twins lineup that's supposed to be one of the best in baseball on a night the wind is blowing out.
Bullpen is going to be the issue as the season gets going. Still a ton of big questions to be answered. Can we get a thread title change? One of hope maybe lol
The roster makeup is a bit weird in the pen. I know some of the more promising guys are limited with options so that may play into it. I’m just ready for Friday. oh and they need to work on the pumped in crowd reactions. They are awful right now. Guys who do the EPL stuff are really good.
The first week was pretty bad, but then you could tell the sound people started having fun with it and prepped all of their crowd reactions ahead of time, like a radio DJ with sound drops or whatever
The MLB is missing the mark with this fake crowd noise. It's so bad. Just let us watch with the silence and enjoy the unusual sounds of the game.
They'll get it over time. I don't care either way but this is new ground for everyone and I'm sure they'll improve.
Disagree the Nats game was silent and you could hear the cicadas in the background. Weird. Did anyone else hear a hot dog vendor as part of the white noise? I can picture the actual vendor
Braun the first ever DH in Wrigley history. Sucks it couldn't have been someone who is less of a lying sack of shit like Bonds or Rose or any member of the 1919 Black Sox.
