Juat saw that he said he is splitting it with family members which makes it a little better. Still way more than I'd spend on a watch without being a multimillionaire but whatever gets his rocks off.
The first ones that popped up when I searched that number were 100k. But I'm definitely not an expert.
Is there a synopsis in quality manufacturers at certain price points? Under 100 100 to 500 500 to 1000 1000 to 5000 Etc
The 5711 retails for like $30k. On the secondary market it goes for over twice that. I will be getting it for retail.
Should probably just update the OP. Please feel free to chime in... Sub $500: Seiko 5 Seiko Prospex Entry Tissot Entry Hamilton Citizen G-Shock Victorinox Bulova Nixon Apple Watch
There’s a ton of sub $5k options outside those 3... that’s where the options start getting interesting
Ex came back from NYC years ago & was so proud that she was able to buy a “real” Tag, off some guy that she assumed stolen it. When I opened the box, it had a pube under crystal.
Yes definitely true. Those are probably the most well known. I admittedly am not an expert in the sub $5k range. Nomos is well made, Grand Seiko, Panerai, Montblanc, Cartier, and some others that I'm surely forgetting. I love steel watches, so for me under $5k, I'd try to buy a Speedmaster or a used Sub.
I bought all these while I was in Afghan so i knew they were fake. But for $50 some of them are pretty high damn quality fakes. Even the jewelers at my old work were impressed by the quality of some of them.
I agree. Add IWC, Frederique Constant, Bell & Ross, Breitling, Longines, among others to what you listed.
I’ll say this: Rolex is more well known and identifiable by the average person, but a true horologist (LOL) will recognize another luxury timepiece where it largely goes unrecognized by the general public.
I work in a lab around corrosive chemicals and I wanted an everyday watch that wasn’t an Apple Watch or some Fit Bit. Bought the Hamilton Khaki King and it’s perfect.
Let's throwdown fisticuffs, motherfucker. Put em up. Honestly everyone and their momma knows about it, but the Hamitlon Khaki Field Automatic is as good as you can do for <$500, and you can get it for substantially under that $500. Alpina makes some nice, unique offerings for maybe slightly over $500 Frederique Constant makes great dress pieces for sub $1,000 Longines has great dress offerings for under $1,500 Rado Captain Cook for a diver below "luxury" tier Tissot Seastar 1000 for diver under $500. Tissot in general makes all types of great budget pieces for under $1,000 Montblanc makes some sexy chronographs that run considerably less than Omega
Honestly Swatch Group runs shit in the sub $1,000 price range. I guess that happens when you own ETA and can use great movements for pennies on the dollar. Mido Tissot Hamilton Longines
Added a couple new pieces to the collection. I have a G Shock that I’ve used for super casual occasions and wanted something nicer that could be used for casual as well. IWC Portofino Automatic Breitling Superocean Automatic
First off, I hate you all. I now have an unhealthy watch obsession, but have no knowledge about nice watches. Can anyone let me know about montblanc? I like this guy https://www.chrono24.com/montblanc/montblanc-star-legacy-full-calendar-118516--id12382769.htm
They are fucking gorgeous. I would love one but I am tapped out for quite some time. The “knock” on them is that they are not a classic watchmaker, but they have been investing a ton of money into development and are coming on very strong.
That’s a very nice Montblanc. There’s a Jaeger-LeCoultre I’m eyeing that has a moon phase too. https://www.watchmaxx.com/jaeger-lecoultre-watch-q1368420
Call me the Yacht Master. My lil boat docked in the background Spoiler I hate douchy wrist shots like this but this was too good to pass up
My brother is a watch snob. I told him I wanted a Citizen a while back and he laughed at me. I know he’s got a Tudor and has plans on an Omega. He’s even got one of those boxes that moves your watches around so they don’t lose time. He will strike up conversations with random people who have watches that interest him. It’s hilarious. I’ll be lurking here. Super interesting stuff. I have always wanted a Rolex.
I went and tried it on. Just didn’t do it for me. Thinking maybe a Tudor heritage advisor or just save for this one https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us/en/watches/master/master-geographic/1428421.html
I love you. I stopped by Tourneau just to see what they had in the showroom and every time I've been in that place the salespeople treat you like Jorts if he was being paid not to call you names.
Wife is going to Italy with a friend this summer & I’ve been given free reign to purchase myself a timepiece. Gonna hold off making decision until after Basel, but initially leaning towards BB58
God damnit I am a loser I just asked a dude with a titanium Pelagos how he liked it. Maybe it was your brother.
LMAO I was in Tourneau once looking around. Sales lady started talking to me and asked about my Rolex. Told her the backstory, about 30 seconds or so. Then she asked me when I was going to trade it in and upgrade to a real watch. It momentarily pissed me off, then I smiled and appreciated the balls on her. Told her that it had sentimental value and I would be buying a 2nd, not trading it in. But they can be ruthless there.
I'm leaning leather, dress watch or steel tool watch/diver, as those are areas I'd like to upgrade I like Bauhaus styled watches, specifically Nomos Metro Datum Gangreserve, but leaning more towards an all-purpose diver, like the Tudor BB58. Tudor has some sentimental value, as I purchased one for the wife & she'd like us to have "his & hers". Oh... I have a pencil wrist & a preference for mechanical vs. automatic movements Current watches of merit: Spoiler Tissot Visodate Hamilton Khaki Field Officer Mechanical Swatch Sistem51 OG Black Seiko Prospex Omega Pro Moonwatch - Hesalite Casio Mudman GW-9000
