Are we losing ground on Shipley? Just curious as I saw Clemson insider put a crystal ball on Clemson. Also who is the crystal ball Loy just put in?

He won’t be a 3 star very long. In the last 3 days Alabama and LSU both offered. He’s been blowing up.

He also tweeted “big announcement coming friday” and the mods are all hinting at a commitment

With the big time recruits there always feels like they go from locks, to leaning elsewhere, to hopefully finding their way back.

he's a bit inconsistent with his get off in his film but when he does get it right, he looks phenomenal. We know Elston can get the best out of a kid if the kid is willing to work and he's got elite length

Kid is going to be really good and I think the Bama/LSU offers are a validation they think the same thing

this was posted by Singer last night

*** After Olney (Md.) Good Counsel offensive lineman Landon Tengwall visited Michigan and Penn State in the fall and hadn't visited Notre Dame since March of 2019, the vibe was that the Irish were falling behind for the 2021 Rivals100 prospect. Penn State was and likely still is the leader for Tengwall, but Notre Dame has surged here in recent weeks. Notre Dame visited his school a couple times in January, and Irish OL commit Blake Fisher is communicating very often with Tengwall as well. I'm hearing that Notre Dame has really pulled ahead of Michigan for the No. 2 spot in Tengwall's recruitment and are right on PSU's heels. Tengwall visited Maryland this past weekend, and I actually like where the Terps are at with Tengwall more than I do U-M.

*** Of course, Notre Dame fans don't want to hear that they're No. 2 for the elite lineman prospect. He's only visited Notre Dame once, and again, that was last spring. It's been 11 months since he visited last, and during that visit, he nearly committed to Notre Dame. Multiple sources confirm to me that Tengwall will visit Notre Dame for the weekend of March 21 as well as an official visit April 3. When Tengwall touches down in South Bend, it will be his first time back in exactly a year, and then he'll return to campus two weeks later. This begs the questions: why take visits so close to each other, and why take the visit on your own dime when you could just come in for the official?

*** This was something I asked a source close to Tengwall, and one obvious answer is that Tengwall wants to a lot of time at Notre Dame. But a big reason that the March 21 weekend is important to Tengwall is because Notre Dame is having some former offensive linemen on campus and will meet Tengwall and the other big time OL recruits on campus that weekend. I'm told that Tengwall will be accompanied by his grandfather, who visited Notre Dame with him the first time and is a huge ND fan, for the unofficial visit, and Tengwall will head to South Bend with his parents for the official visit in April. Penn State should be considered the team to beat right now, but the Irish have a good shot to pull ahead before he makes a commitment later in the spring.

seems like BK is bringing out the big guns for the 3/20 weekend by bringing back some of the top Olineman from the BK era

would love to see Q, McGlinchey, Stanley, and the Martin brothers on campus that weekend. Think it could make a huge impact on the recruits

singer posted this on the top 5 guys who could commit next

I put in a FutureCast pick for Mansfield (Texas) Legacy defensive end

    David Abiara
to pick Notre Dame on Tuesday. I feel good about that pick, as Notre Dame really impressed the 6-4, 240-pounder during his visit over the weekend.
Abiara announced that he would have a "big announcement" on Friday, and it's certainly possible that it could be an announcement of a commitment. Often times though, a situation like this ends up being a prospect announcing a group of top schools, something that Abiara has yet to do publicly.

Notre Dame offered Abiara just 13 days ago, and the Irish have already made a big impact on his recruitment. LSU and Alabama have offered him in recent days, but will they be too little too late?

is the only 2022 prospect on this list. He loves Notre Dame and I believe the Irish are the team to beat for him.
As I've written before, Allen nearly committed to Wisconsin in January, so making an early pledge is not out of the realm of possibility for him, and he even admitted that to me in an interview over the weekend.

He does plan to take more visits this spring, including a trip back to Notre Dame. I could see him committing before his junior season.

If Abiara commits to Notre Dame, there is a possibility that he's the final defensive lineman recruit in 2021 for the Irish. This is not going to be a big class for the Irish.

Numbers are fluid though and with a potential commitment from Abiara in the near future, it seems very possible that Notre Dame could get to a third DL recruit this spring.

    Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy's

    Aaron Armitage
is very high on Notre Dame, and the Irish are one of his top couple of schools. He plans to return to Notre Dame for the March 21 weekend, and he could wrap things up soon after that. But Penn State and a few others are factors in his recruitment as well.

Notre Dame fans have to like seeing Matthew (N.C.) Weddington running back

    Will Shipley
on this list but would much rather see him on the Irish's 2021 commitment list.
There's a solid chance of that happening, although Clemson is Notre Dame's biggest threat at his point, and schools such as Duke, N.C. State, Georgia, Northwestern, Stanford and Alabama are still pushing for the nation's No. 33 recruit and top all-purpose back as well.

Shipley will commit a month or two before he steps into a classroom as a high school senior, and it's imperative, in my opinion, that Notre Dame gets him on campus twice this spring to be able to land him.

He's been to Clemson a few times now and only Notre Dame once.

I've contemplated putting in a FutureCast pick for Clarkston (Mich.) High offensive lineman

    Rocco Spindler
to end up at Notre Dame since his last visit in October, when he was blown away by his meeting with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.
But he is always visiting Michigan it seems. Spindler has visited U-M probably three times as much as he's been to South Bend, and there has to be a lot of pull for him to stay local.

Spindler may hit some SEC schools this spring, and he visited Penn State recently, but when it comes down to it, I see this as a Michigan-Notre Dame battle, and it's a coin flip for me right now as to which school eventually lands him.

first time I got into it was the clausen class and then it took off for a couple of years. Then kelly came in and I wanted to see how he was doing. I was following it until maybe after the lynch/tuitt class. Now I know the importance of it but I am not really into it. We all pretty much know what is coming every year now, and it’s always very good classes.

When kelly retires I will probably look at it a little more to see how the new guy is doing and what he is trying to do.

He was supposed to visit ND but committed to Northwestern on his visit there, his ND visit was the following week. He never came back around. ND didn’t like there other interior OL options and punted on the position group most of those kids they punted on signed with Michigan

that's a good summary, but in the end, I think the kid just didn't want to be at ND. He said in an interview later that Stanford actually finished second. It's just an example of a kid not liking his fit at ND which is understandable, it happens to every team.

wow, ND going on all in on Jakalil Johnson

Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have a new name to watch for Notre Dame, as the Fighting Irish look to find a new cornerbacks coach, as well as a tight ends coach.

We reported for a while that, barring a last second change, John McNulty will be the next tight ends coach at Notre Dame. We still believe that will be the case.

So, who will be the next cornerbacks coach?

The latest name that we’re told to keep a very close eye on is St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet high school head football coach Robert Steeples.

Steeples is one of the most talented and impressive coaches in all of high school football and for his efforts this fall, was named the 2020 All-American Bowl Coach of the Year at this year's banquet in San Antonio.

Desmet high school went 14-0 this season and won the Missouri State Championship. This comes just two years after a 1-9 season, which was just his second season as the head coach. The tremendous turnaround has been recognized and respected on a national level, and clearly left quite an impression on Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

If Steeples and DeSmet high school sound familiar, it should. Notre Dame landed Top100, four-star wide receiver Jordan Johnson from that school in the class of 2020 and sits as a top contender for elite class of 2021 four-star cornerback Jakailin Johnson, another standout at the school.

Steeples, 30, started his collegiate career at Missouri before transferring to Memphis. He went undrafted in 2013, but played in the league for a few years with the St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys as part of the offseason and/or practice squads during his brief career at the next level.

Notre Dame is looking to sure up its secondary with the departure of cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght. Steeples would bring experience at the position, an impressive coaching resume, and from what we're told, the ability to develop relationships to the Fighting Irish staff. He will work alongside safeties coach Terry Joseph and defensive coordinator Clark Lea to take this group to a new level immediately in the 2020 season.

So, as we continue to move forward, keep an eye on Steeples, Green Bay Packers defensive quality control assistant coach Christian Parker, and Cincinnati Bearcats defensive backs coach Mike Mickens, who we’re told interviewed this week.
