Drafthouse season pass went live for everyone in Austin and some other markets https://drafthouse.com/victory/seasonpass/register#openSignUpAnchor
weather if perfect for hibernating during February. Probably go out for drinks 2-3 times a year in that time between the super bowl and SXSW. And almost always is just going to a daytime drinking crawfish boil before returning to the cave apartment. May fuck with The Eastern boil this weekend place is in a good location and weather be back to reasonable temps
Few of us went out day drinking on Rainey for the AU-LSU game Saturday. New cocktail bar on the 2nd floor of a new hotel/condo across from Craft Pride... whatever it was it’s got some damn good drinks. went to Unbar for a couple hours after that and the talent was mind numbing. 8-9s everywhere and at least double digit legit 10s. Never going back there it’s just suicide for monogamy.
torchy’s We're celebrating our Damn Good one year anniversary with doordash, so you know the deal! Free delivery today, 3/2 through Friday, 3/6 on orders over $15. Cheers!
I see another visit to jester king in my very near future the amount of talent out to see the baby goats >
the SXSW events FB group was an interesting read yesterday on canceling. Some unbelievably douchey #YOLO comments by people that are like 50+ years old. Personally hope they cancel everything except Rufus at COTA. St Pats day is going to be a cesspool in the city and all the retards saying “hurhur just wash yer hands and cover your mouth when you cough” really have no grasp on the reality of SXSW. Yea sure idiot everyone at every bar on 6th and Rainey is just going to hangout by the sink all day and night.
Fine with me. I’ll be stuck in the office nobody else deserves to have fun. in other news... got word from my buddy that someone he knows finally got an Austin FC ticket selection email. Premium Packages Lower level Sideline tickets: $6500 Lower level Endzone: $4000 some in between premium and GA seating: $400/game regular GA: $100/game I hope this info is wrong or that is the most absurd fucking thing I’ve ever heard.
Red ash is the best steak spot Kemuri Tatsu Ya, Uchiko, Uchi and Soto are all real good Japanese small plate spots. Really can’t go wrong with any BBQ spots Drinks I’d say Native Hostel for good drinks and atmosphere or any of the dozen spots on East 6th, East of 35, for “going out” bars. Rainey Street is good outside of Container Bar. That’s our preference for day drinking until 7-8pm if you want nicer cocktails that are downtown but not in either of those areas above: Roosevelt Room and Garage Bar are nice and more chill. Roosevelt is near a lot of bars but that West 6th area is basically a handful of bars that are full of the crowd you’d find at The Ivy in Buckhead.
The last thing I want is another Ivy. We’re currently at some speakeasy place in the basement of a hotel on Brazos but I don’t know the name. I appreciate the recs btw
In addition to all that, make sure you spend a sunday afternoon on South Congress. San Jose and South Congress hotels = dope cocktails Gueros = good Mexican food
Just stroll up and down the block IMO, get some Amys ice cream, peer into the vintage shops and they usually have live music going next to hopdoddy.
While I’m appreciative of the response, there’s a big difference between something local to the city and like Champions, which as far as I know exists in every Marriott
There are clearly a bunch of frat kids on a formal weekend staying at our hotel. It’s insane how such dopey fucks are likely pulling some quality ass
Feel like all the big texmex places here have one thing they’re really good at and the rest of their menu is the same as the other places. Matts - bob dip Chuys - boomboom enchiladas Maudie’s - sissy fajita tacos Polvos - quesadillas compuesto Trudys - brisket burrito Flores - fajita nachos In my experience the rest of the menus are all pretty even and wouldn’t pass a blind taste test
We lived next to the original Chuys for about three years so I’m always going to nostalgia hard and their queso, boom boom sauce and tortillas are all top-notch. Not a fan of Maudies or Trudys but Polvos has good margaritas and fajitas and Matt’s is just a really cool experience overall if you can stomach the crowds. Bob Armstrong dip is damn good too. Lately we’ve been going to Lupe Tortilla and I think it’s the best of the bunch.
Lupe is solid trudy’s has gone downhill and is in financial crisis with not being able to pay their employees
