Big Randy said his friend texted him about the WMPO (his friend was a first timer) and described 16 as: ‘A wholly forgettable golf hole in the midst of a booze soaked sea of Instagram influencers’ so true
Did you check out the new Shane Bacon and Max Homa pod? Max telling stories about 16 and other random stuff he saw was pretty great
I’ll check out. The new ridge structure was awesome and I got some good video of a few players teeing off 12. There were so many drunk people yesterday and it was the biggest crowd we’ve seen on Sunday. We were at the Greenskeeper and the security guy said 10 people tumbled into the water on 18!
Had some friends at the wmpo this weekend, bitch wouldn’t get me a souvenir divot tool...no longer friends. Spoiler lets be real we were never friends
odds and ends. The bettinardi putter I purchased, just wasn't for me. Hated the grip and just didn't fit my eye, probably should refrain from buying putters off amazon. Anyway I traded that away for a 2018 newport, which I'm loving. Been thinking about getting new wedges. I have three sm6 in 52/56/60 but I'm thinking I need to go 50/54/58. I have zero experience with it, is it even possible or worth it to have them all bent the 2 degrees difference?
Additional question. What bounce did you go with on both? The Mizuno Europe website (far superior to the US website, btw) shows the 54/8° and 58/12° both have the C grind. Those are the bounces I'd be leaning toward and I like that they're the same grind, just not quite sure on how different the M and C grinds are for them
Was just talking with some buddies about how fun it is to max out elevation and temperature on golf simulators to add 30+ yards to our drives.
Background: I suck ass at golf but started playing a lot more last summer. Will be playing even more this summer. I'm playing with a 9 year old Strata set but don't want to spend a ton to upgrade. Thoughts on the Callaway Edge set? Saw Rick Shiels thought they were a good value but curious if any of you are familiar. https://www.costco.com/callaway-edge-10-piece-golf-club-set,-right-handed.product.100399160.html
Probably a decent set for value, but yeah, just go hit some others. There are always great deals to be found on used clubs too.
Sorry for not responding earlier. I love the feel of the Mizuno wedges being forged, but if you get the right bounce angle and I not finding a ton of difference in the top of the line wedges. Cheap SM7's are a great option but damn the new SM8's are pretty.
So I am not advocating any of you watch this whole video, but at the 19:20 mark Kyle Berkshire (long drive guy) outdrives my buddy Zac with a fucking putter. You may have seen Zac from all of his stingers in instagram, he is a big dude who brings it 125+.
Thanks for the insight. Vokeys at $120 are hard to pass up but the more I look at them the more I'm leaning towards T-20s. I also like the mix of them with the MP line as I'm also thinking about getting into a blended set of HMB+MMC. From some of the testing videos I've watched it looks like for the elite player they're noticing small differences but I'm thinking for myself, those would be negligible. I do love those new SM8's but am not thrilled about them cutting out the stock 54/8 and also don't want to get into paying for hand ground or any of the Wedge Works stuff
If you are all mizuno I would definitely go with the Mizuno. With just 2 wedges 30 bucks each isn't enough savings to not get what you want.
Mizuno irons are just too good, especially with all the shaft options they have at no upcharge. That's one of my issues with Titleist and Ping for that matter, is that their custom shaft list is not very extensive compared to the likes of Callaway/TM/Mizuno
Hey guys, let’s design a revolutionary putter. Anyone have any ideas? No? Ok just google stupid putter designs and make sure the company you steal from is out of business.
Walking Pebble Beach was pretty wonderful. Followed Sneds and Phil for the most part but saw a lot of DJ/Spieth too. Baking out your car before hopping on a shuttle bus to the course is a top tier activity Seeing some of the amateurs was cooler than I was expecting simply because some of those guys were incredible with fans. Romo and Steve Young in particular. Lotta Packers fans
Club fitting talk: currently play JPX 900 forges with C Taper Lites, quarter inch long and standard lie. Have been thinking I like the feel of a heavier shaft and been hitting a few different ones. Yesterday I hit the KBS Tour and $ Tapers in the MP-20 both MMC and HMB. I hit the Tour much more consistently. Impact tape shows really good swings with the standard length in HMB and a few slight mis-hits in the MMC plus a half inch in length. Most shots were pushed a little right so I’m thinking I’d like to go slightly upright, either a half or full degree. Does changing the lie impact the length I should go with? I was thinking a quarter inch is comfortable, half felt like a bit much
Random question - but I've noticed a lot of guys typically seem to have really bad Sundays who are in the 30-50 range, going like +2 to +5 over, even if they are under par for the tournament (like look at the Pebble Beach board right now). Is that because players are just so fatigued by Sunday it's tough to lock in on Sunday's if they aren't challenging for the top 10? Is it because they take more risks to try to push into the top 10 and it ends up costing them because they know there's not much of a money difference between 40 and 60? Or maybe I'm making this all up.
