there was a post earlier that Indian researchers noted the virus looked manufactured but probably just bad internet info
There was a tweet which mentioned a researcher in another country noticed similarities to the HIV virus. There was discussion that this could have happened due to man made impact. I don’t think he was suggesting it out of the air but rather asking if this gave the previous report and traction.
The IIT article was trash ftr. That's not a peer-reviewed journal and the inserts they highlighted are way too short. Those sequences would be shared in thousands of viruses.
Not to interrupt a good and proper shitting on zerohedge, but it was an actual article that was published, just a particularly shitty article.
So China doesn’t have a rapid coronoavirus Test, right? They are using the standard viral PCR for diagnosis? I just think about if this outbreak happened in, say, Los Angeles, we’d miss 99% of the first 1-2 weeks of cases because it’s not in our testing heuristic. The only cases would be ones that were so horrible they’d need to be admitted and get a full fucking workup. 99% of the cases would just present to UC as a random viral URI and go undiagnosed. The quoted 2% mortality is an overestimate for sure. at worst the mortality is +100% to -1000%. No way real mortality is over 4%, and probably not under 0.2% (in China anyways).
I doubt the true validity of this. Tencent may have accidentally leaked real data on Wuhan virus deaths Tencent briefly lists 154,023 infections and 24,589 deaths from Wuhan coronavirus TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — As many experts question the veracity of China's statistics for the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Tencent over the weekend seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures. On late Saturday evening (Feb. 1), Tencent, on its webpage titled "Epidemic Situation Tracker", showed confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019nCoV) in China as standing at 154,023, 10 times the official figure at the time. It listed the number of suspected cases as 79,808, four times the official figure. The number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300. Most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day. Moments later, Tencent updated the numbers to reflect the government's "official" numbers that day. Netizens noticed that Tencent has on at least three occasions posted extremely high numbers, only to quickly lower them to government-approved statistics. Feb. 1 chart showing higher numbers (left), chart showing "official" numbers (right). (Internet image) Netizens also noticed that each time the screen with the large numbers appears, it shows a comparison with the previous day's data which demonstrates a "reasonable" incremental increase, much like comparisons of official numbers. This has led some netizens to speculate that Tencent has two sets of data, the real data and "processed" data. Some are speculating that a coding problem could be causing the real "internal" data to accidentally appear. Others believe that someone behind the scenes is trying to leak the real numbers. However, the "internal" data held by Beijing may not reflect the true extent of the epidemic. According to multiple sources in Wuhan, many coronavirus patients are unable to receive treatment and die outside of hospitals. A severe shortage of test kits also leads to a lower number of diagnosed cases of infection and death. In addition, there have been many reports of doctors being ordered to list other forms of death instead of coronavirus to keep the death toll artificially low.
This is pretty interesting to watch unfold on Chinese social media. His parting words are being spread, which is surprising, given how they can be interpreted.
An elderly person in quarantine with infected people around him wouldn't face a higher risk of getting sick?
corona v found with 41 on cruise-ship is bad close quarters dinning cabins ect , a lot of people gonna be sick . bless their hearts . hope and pray.
Was just told our jobsite rainwear will sell out in next 3 weeks and we have no eta as the plant is closed in China. Product Management is exploring other sources but likely still two months out Really starting to piss me off, I sell an outrageous amount of rainwear in Ohio especially in March/April
Higher risk for sure. Spreading like wildfire, not necessarily. A lot of factors involved in spreading viruses. They don't spread as easily as most people think.
Maybe you'll think of the people working in those factories a bit more moving forward. I imagine they give you nice enough margins to survive these hard times.
Doubt we'll have the ability to suddenly ramp up production here. Lot of that has completely gone away likely never to return.
“So, Mr. Bond, you’ve discovered we were behind it all. First the coronavirus, then the world shall belong to the Pangolins!”
We'd have a hard time making basic PPE products such as dipped gloves here, the EPA would never allow it. Shit is awful for the environment and the worker
Coming back to this, my point was that portraying any confidence in mortality right now is a joke. The numbers are pure smoke and shift by significant orders of magnitude every day. For you to claim a definitive read on mortality being less than SARS because of whatever numbers we’re getting out of PRC is BOLD. Suspect there’s not a professional in the Western Hemisphere that would pretend to guess at mortality rate right now. If and when you can link an article with some hard data I’ll shut up
