Quick Mo Seider update Plus he has 17 points as an 18 year old in the AHL. Sandin has the record for 18 year old D scoring in the AHL at 26 points, albeit in 44 games. Still, Seider is playing 20 minutes a night in all situations whereas Sandin was very clearly sheltered.
The reason they are waiting is the same reason they waited last year on Stone, Duchene, Dzingle and EK. They know who will stay and who wants to leave. Better to leave it unsaid publicly then to put it out there, which just leads to other problems. Sens need a new owner.
Makar is way too pricy imo, byram is also a big value to give up. No reason for Colorado to move makar to get Connor, they get weaker at defense and that is their weakness.
give me a top 4 defense that can skate like byram any day over a guy like Connor. Reminds me of the mtl trade for drouin except that Connor is better than drouin, talent being equal a d is more valuable. only thing here is that Connor is good and we all know it, byram should be good. I would keep byram if I am Colorado, their window is not closing anytime soon anyway.
This rationale is how GMs like Ken Holland go from esteemed to a laughing stock. Justin Abdelkader is a proven NHL talent. So is Jonathan Ericsson.
Connor is a ppg and on a team friendly contract for another 6 plus years. Yes he’s a winger and an equal level D has more value than a W. But Byram is not an equal level player at this point so it’s a massive gamble on Winnipeg’s part.
You can become a laughing stock just as easily the other way, though. (See: Giving up the pick that became Barzal for griffin Reinhart or the Sabres turning down a ristolainen for Hall trade years ago)
byram was the 4th overall pick in the draft, you do not give up on a guy like that if you think he will be good. I mean, at some point Mario Lemieux was unproven in the nhl.
true, that’s why I would not hate the trade from both sides but byram is going to be a fowler type player. Probably better. These guys are tough to find, you just plug him and he plays good defense and offense for almost half the game. Looking at Colorado’s roster and I think they need a guy like byram more than Connor.
Not saying Byram won’t become that level. But for a team that’s tooth and nail for the playoffs taking a key element off your team to add a player that you won’t see until next fall is a massive gamble. And since he hasn’t had a great season in the WHL, why would you take that risk? Find a young D that’s more established that can help you right now.
Difference there was Sens were trying to get desperately to get rid of Yashin. They weren’t looking to trade to improve another area in the team, just to get rid of Yash. And Milbury had a horrible record of losing trades.
that is pretty much my point, that trade was stupid and it set the isles back ten years. Just because a player is proven doesn’t mean that he is better than your prospect, especially a 4th pick
Wait. Are you saying that Colorado is willing to trade him because they think he won’t be good? Awesome for Sakic if he can pull that off; horrible for Winnipeg and their staff if they have assessed his development path incorrectly.
no, i am saying they should keep him because I believe he will be better than Connor. And trading makar would be absolutely ridiculous
Agree they won’t get Makar out of Colorado and said that earlier. But Connor is at this point a lot closer to him than to Byram. Chances Connor goes bust are pretty slim, but you can’t say that about Byram. This won’t be a one for one deal.
I agree with this also, Connor is a valuable asset. I would still value byram over him but that is my personnal bias
A defenseman putting up near a point per game in the low scoring WHL while playing injured and considering it “not a great season” either shows that they are solely a stat-watcher or don’t watch them play, or both.
In a playoff game, Blackhawks start with a 5-on-0 power play and score :15 in. Biggest Jets game of the year and nobody shows up for the first shift
The Jets were never even involved. The Hawks were skating circles around them like they weren't even there. It was Toews's 800th point too
i still play In a beer league and I get so livid when guys are just not playing, fucking do something...anything. Sometimes guys come at me apologizing for screening me, I don’t care, it’s my job to see the puck just go make a play on the fucking puck. Passive hockey is killing me
I’ve never seen anything like it. We go on the power play and instantly are at a disadvantage. The scorers the roster has and it to be this bad is so puzzling. And embarrassing.
They ran the exact same play at least 4 times: Fake a charge up, drop it back to Kane, who rushes just off center left, crosses the blue line, dumps it to his left to Toews along the boards who attacks and drops it off behind him Except if *I* can figure that out, obviously the Jets could. And they picked it off over and over again
