Edit: Hit play for the part when he talks sobriety. The two shows I've been to and the one's I've watched always cheer at this part which is awesome.
Love it. Wish we didn’t have to wait 3 months for the album but I’m guessing it’s due to the tour schedule behind the release
"And we don't take requests; we won't shut up and sing. Tell the truth enough you find it rhymes with everything."
Be Afraid reminds me of Cumberland Gap or Hope the High Road. Not my favorite version of Isbell but a powerful song with a catchy melody. It's fun to see him grow as a writer. I am very excited for the whole album. I wish he would just release Overseas with it, he plays it at every show.
And the sand that they call cocaine cost you twice as much as gold You'd be better off to drink your coffee black
Definitely a bummer, but the Williamsburg show will be cool change of pace/outdoor venue. I may try and do Wolf Trap as well...but it’s a Thursday which is a bit tough.
How do you not like psychedelics? That's what I want to know. Anyhow, Isbell also said he abused "painkillers." Not sure which specifically though.
I lost a good friend Christmas time when folks go off the deep end His woman took the kids and he took Klonopin Enough to kill a man of twice his size
Probably. That seems to be where he’s headed. Overseas definitely has a Nashville Sound feel to it. That being said I know “Letting you Go” is a slow ballad about his daughter, so I’m sure there will be plenty of good acoustic songs on there as well.
Presale was a mess, but I was able to grab two tix in the 8th row. It’s a smaller outdoor venue, so should be pretty fun.
They have been that much or more for years now. Days of seeing him for 30 bucks in a bar are over. Good for him.
Roxy ticket for Isbell after fees is more expensive than an upper Ryman ticket for Isbell. I’m thrilled for him, but my issue is more with the Roxy.
Matt Patton pulling a double playing with The Dexateens and DBT tonight. The Dexateens sound incredible, RTR.

$105.00 for 10th row in Salt Lake City this August. Was $65.00 for 7th row last year. Going to see Amanda Shires in a couple of weeks. $30.00.
I used to work with Craig Lieske (who Grand Canyon is about). was an awesome guy. Bill Doss (also late, of Olivia Tremor Control, Apples in Stereo, etc.) worked there too. another cool-as-fuck dude.
I’m ready for Overseas release. Between that and Be Afraid I’ve got a feeling this is gonna be a real rocker of an album.
I'm down for a rocker of an album, but assuming all of the new songs I have heard, the other two are slow songs. The song about his daughter (Letting you go) and the song about his buddy committing suicide and assuming they make it on the album may make it a good mix of songs.
