Anyone have anything on Antigua, Guatemala?

In the past 2-3 years, have had 2 friends move there. And then in the past 2-3 months, two folks I met whilst traveling have both permanently moved there, after backpacking S America for several months.

It looks amazing in pictures, but Guatemala has never been on my radar. Maybe I’m missing the boat

Richmond, BC has been on my list for a minute. It’s pretty damn far from DT vancouver, though, but we’ll manage.

We got stoned and watched this episode of Ugly Delicious (I think?) with Seth Rogen where they hit up Vancouver/Richmond, it looked amazing. We wrote down every place they went to.

I have more research to do. That’s on the list for sure.

I’d prefer staying in some grimy ass airBNB with thr dog and just gorge and get high the whole time, but adults and their responsibilities.

    Was EXCELLENT.

very calm and quiet and secluded. The adults only next door is side by side with a family resort so their beach was a lot busier. Can’t speak for what it’s like inside, but our place was clean, upscale and again, quiet. Perfect retreat for what we needed.

smaller entertaining acts in a courtyard are nightly, restaurants were good not great, like Le Blanc on the hotel strip (their food is stupid). We stayed in a second floor casita, barely used the plunge pool but the room was awesome.

service by the staff was top of the line, beach attendees were active. Whole place and beach had great WiFi.

If you’re in first/business class you have a much better chance. It’s not a guarantee but definitely ask the flight attendants when you’re boarding. I’ve had luck asking in the past

I took a longboard to Mexico City and they stored it up there. But the flight attendants were punks about it.

For reference/mindset: Stayed at 91 Loop Hostel and traveled with the gf

Daytime I felt totally fine for the most part, aside from keeping focused on not getting pick pocketed. Night time we'd venture a couple blocks to go from my Hostel, 91 Loop, to say The Gin Bar. You get a lot more people approaching you at night and a general less populated sketchier vibe, its fine, but traveling with my gf it felt like a situation I needed to be hyper aware of everything going on around me. Overall day time its no biggie, at night doing a few blocks is fine but with how cheap Ubers are there it wasn't really worth it to do longer distances.

Side note Id recommend going out to a couple nice restaurants while you are there, thats genuinely one place I felt like my dollar went a long way when it came to food and drinks.

Anyone been to Bermuda? As of this moment I am going for a work conference in late July/early August and want to tack on a long weekend ahead of the conference. For the conference we will be at the Fairmont Southhampton. I get that everything is a bit pricey out there, but any suggestions on parts of the island to stay with the GF?

4 days in Bangkok, 3 in Siem Reap, 2 on Ko Samui, 5 in Chiang Mai ended up our final itinerary. Pumped.

They nickel and dime the shit out of you. They weighed my bag and it was like .5 kg over the limit so made me check it and pay for that too.

I weighed our bags and there's about zero chance they'd have met requirements so I just paid it upfront.

I can travel with 2-3 days clothes and shove my bag in the smallest of regional U.S. jets but Mrs. Saint sure as fuck isn't and I'm not gonna fight over $10.

I got nabbed the first flight and had to pay.

For my second flight with them I found a life hack. I kind of hovered around the back of the boarding line and then merged in behind someone with a large bag. He got weighed, which allowed me to slip through without being weighed as they only have one scale and don’t want to hold up boarding too much.

Don't lose or throw away the immigration paper like I did. Had to go to a police station in Puerto Natales to get a duplicate before hitting the border.

    Santiago immigration was miserable.

I had positive experiences on VietJet last year.

On our flights, the additional cost for their "Sky Boss" fare was negligible (maybe $20 a flight) so we booked it, and we were treated very well. Special check-in lines, lounge access, free meal onboard, and separate off-boarding. In both Ha Noi and Bangkok we were the first people off the plane (they even made people who had rushed to the front back up so we could get out of our seats and off the plane before them which was slightly awkward) and rode a different bus than everyone else to the terminal. In Bangkok, they put us in a van and drove us to a door right next to the immigration area while everyone else had to board a bus and got dropped off further away.

think i've posted it before but the almost complete inability to make reservations in tokyo is annoying, even places that say you can call just never answer their phones or its always busy

meanwhile I was able to book everything in Kyoto in half a day of fiddling, including a three michelin star place, easy

in better news delta has fixed price mileage awards that they don't publish, so if you book premium select to japan there's a fixed price of miles to move into delta one if there's award availability. for me from minneapolis it was 45k delta miles one way, which is a steal. highly recommend investigating that.

the only path for SOME places is going through the concierge at the hotel you're staying at (which is how I got the 3 michelin star place in kyoto)

in tokyo you're basically looking at $500+/night type places who MIGHT be able to swing some spots, but won't be able to touch places like Den. tokyo high end spots are just rapidly moving to closed loop systems.

I haven’t been to Japan but it’s high on my list. From what I understand a lot more of the best restaurants are moving to invitation only for reservations. You either have had to eaten there before or been recommended from someone else who has a standing reservation there.

Correct, some high end concierges can get you in is the only other option. Think lots of them cater to locals even if they aren't recommendation only, so they only take phone reservations from local numbers, etc.

Yeah it is for sure. I have been to almost every city on the list at different points in time.. so I kind of already know where I want to take her for the highlights. Pretty much have hour by hour itinerary. I booked it specifically so we get max time in each city. It wont be relaxing but it will be an experience.

All round trip in business class on points. :feelsgoodman:
