Went this week. Get there at least 45 minutes before opening so you can get your bag checked and through the ticket gate.

Take your phone off wi-fi when using the Disney Experience app to book your spot on Rise. It's much slower. Don't open the app until right at opening time because sometimes it won't refresh and let you join a boarding group.

Pray the ride doesn't break down a bunch when you're there. I was very lucky and everything was smooth when I went but they had issues the previous two days and didn't get through many boarding groups and also had parts of the ride not working properly.

Just did ROR and Smuggler Run. Amazing tech and immersive as everyone has said.

Studios is packed today, like really packed.

Got to toll booth at 7:30, passed security and on the park by 7:45 and in line for ToyStory Land.

Hit the app at 7:55 and refreshed for 5 minutes. Joined boarding party 30 seconds after open and was in group 50.

ROR was down for an hour at 10, otherwise we would have been called at 11. Got on at noon.

Looks like they may get through 100 groups today.

Bummer news Slinky Dog didn't open until after 10:30 and has been 175+ all day as has TOT.

Question about getting a boarding pass for Rise of Resistance.

If I have two adults with two phones queuing to try to get in, can we both be using one login? Or do we need two accounts?

You’ll need two accounts, but that’s not a big deal. Just set the second one up prior and make sure you’re linked together. You can send an invite to link or just call and have tech support do it for you. It’s smart to have two going at once.

    User Nelson’s Long-Awaited Review of
Disneyworld’s Galaxy’s Edge Theme Park Land

    Upshot

Galaxy’s Edge is the finest theme park ever built with shocking attention to detail and a slavish dedication to making it feel like a lived space—it makes Disney’s ownership of the IP worth it despite the mess the movies have been.

    Initial Reactions
My wife had been arguing with me for about 5 years to get us to go to Disneyworld (I had never been), but I wasn’t really feeling an extended weekend vacation for about $2k *(I’ve lived near Disneyland before and have gone many times for a a single day where you’re talking $200). When Disney announced Star Wars was being built, I told her we’d go as “soon as it was finished.” I was able to extend that time horizon a bit even after the park was opened due to Rise of the Resistance being a delayed opening. As soon as it was given a date, she promptly booked us for mid-January.

In hindsight, it sounds like that was a good move—the lines have been really long in Hollywood Studios this spring and January is notoriously a good time for Disney parks because most families aren’t able to take a trip so soon after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. We stayed at the Coronado Springs casitas, which were great and really close to a bus stop with directs to each of the parks. Crucially, our bands were loaded with three fast passes a day and my wife is excellent at planning this stuff so we hit all of our preferred rides without a hitch early each day then were able to add more fast passes one at a time. I think we had about 15 total across three days in the parks. Remainder of this review will be Galaxy’s Edge-specific.

We spent one whole day in DHS from 7 AM to 10 PM. The bus to the park was running at 6:30 in order to get everyone there at park open in order to join the virtual queue for the Rise ride and the whole thing could not have been a better experience. You just stand there, wait until the park opens, tap “join loading group” and then don’t have to sweat it for the rest of the day. We got called to enter the ride at about 10:30 AM, finished our breakfast at Toy Story Land (Woody’s Lunch Box is delicious), and moseyed over at about 11. I hope Disney does this for a lot more big rides in the future—it really beats sitting in lines all day.

    The Feel
I was initially skeptical of Disney’s decision to make a new planet and new storyline and fit the theme park into the existing “canon.” But it really works. The main entrance to Galaxy’s Edge is through a tunnel that’s probably 30 yards long that starts as concrete (looking like the “earth” of the main Hollywood Studios” park) and slowly fades into Batuu-styled walls and vegetation. With each step you are drawn into an entirely different place—there’s a soft space elevator music and the sounds of Batuu’s insects chirping, both slowly growing louder as you pass through the tunnel, and the whole main Rise of the Resistance area unfolds in front of you. There’s dozens of fauna from all over the world that, place together in a single spot, look like they don’t belong and help create a singe of other-worldness. There’s an X-Wing in front of you with smoke coming out of the engine bay. Rey sprints by you on a mission (she doesn’t stop to see if you want a photo with her like a Disney princess). Everyone is in character, even the guys selling Coke and Dasani in alien packaging. This initial area is the Resistance landing area and it feels cobbled together like you’d expect. It feels understated and careful with no “STAR WARS” logos in sight and I can’t overstate just how smart of a decision that was. For a second, you can even forget you’re in a heavily corporatized and designed “Star Wars” theme park if not for the X-Wing and characters running around.

Once you’re walking around the main part of town, you can’t see any of the rest of Disneyworld: the spires soar extremely high to give it a real sense of verticality. The market feels utterly unique with little exhaustive details to notice all over the place—you really pick up on the fact that Lucasfilm helped design the whole place to feel like an actual movie set. The bathrooms have Dyson hand dryers redesigned to look appropriate without any Dyson logos. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to Mos Eisley. Someone is teaching a patron Pazaak, there’s a desert water collection tank being slowly drained as someone fills up a water bottle at the fountain, the merch sellers all quote you prices in credits (1:1 with USD, of course). Ronto Roasters, an excellent fast casual restaurant, even features an elaborate animatronic of a droid rotating meat over a massive spare spacecraft engine. The whole thing is jaw-dropping.

The rest of it—some narrow side streets, a large courtyard that features First Order merch, Kylo Ren’s craft, etc., the Falcon landing area/entrance to Smuggler’s Run, Droid factory, lightsaber workshop—all have their own oddities to discover and the first hour or so in the park of just wandering around, taking it all in, is an awesome time.

    Reviews
    1. Rise of Resistance - it’s the best theme park ride ever made and it isn’t even close. Only thing that I’ve enjoyed half as much is the Avatar Flight of Passage. This thing is like 20 minutes, three rides in one, experiential (without giving anything away, it uses LOTS of cast members in costume) and uses a couple of technologies that are astounding to see in person. The way the ride itself, the waiting line area, and the part of the land it is placed in all blend together in an organic way is also extremely impressive. It’s worth all of the effort to go do—the only regret is not going back to DSH another day to do it again. It sounds like it’s been having issues some days, but thankfully we weren’t victims of that. 10/10.

    2. Smuggler’s Run - This ride is “cool” experientially but not great itself. We waited about 70 minutes to do it together, then later in the night we did single-rider line and just walked off and on. In all, I rode it five times. The experience of being in the Falcon is incredible, especially when you strap in the seatbelt and grab the controls, which feel utterly real and tangible. Every button and switch is functional (thought don’t necessarily do anything). The only problem is that two gunners, two pilots, and two engineers do it together and if you get stuck with boomer pilots who don’t know what they’re doing it, it’s a miserable experience where you’re constantly ramming into objects (which results in actual physical pain—it was a tad surprising and people with medical issues really should not ride this thing). It really demands a lot of teamwork to play “correctly” and that’s hard unless you came to Disney with your own group. The Engineers are also next to pointless and the storyline itself feels very “meh.” Still, it has an interesting level of replayability—one time I rode with some people who knew what they were doing and we were able to get a high enough score to continue playing another 30 seconds or so. It has some level of organic branching-off points depending on your skill as a team. It’s a great experience with a few warts, but I’m sure it will be adapted in the future with a new simulation (just like they’ve done with Star Tours over the decades). 7/10.

    3. Oga’s Cantina - it’s fucking awesome and do not miss it, no matter what. We got extremely lucky and were able to go twice, but you need to be very on top of booking your reservation 60 days out (I think is the time) from your trip. The bar design, scene, music, details, bartenders’ characters, the DJ droid animatronic, meeting other people on vacation—all of it is incredible. We were supposed to only have 45 minutes but each time we stayed probably an hour. Highly recommend standing at the bar rather than having a booth in the back (we did both), if you can swing it. Food and drinks weren’t half bad either. Get the Fuzzy Tauntaun. 10/10.

    4. Droid Factory - was a fucking crowded mess but very cool. Seeing kids walk out and play around with their own droid on the street was awesome. Didn’t do it myself.

    5. Lightsaber Factory — didn’t do it.

    6. Food Hit/Miss List:

    • Ronto Roasters: HIT. Great for lunch or breakfast. 9/10.
    • Blue/Green Milk: MISS. Get it for the ‘gram but don’t expect to enjoy it. 3/10.
    • Docking Bay 7: HIT. This is the main restaurant. Kaadu ribs were great, as was the chocolate Batuu-bon. Probably the best cheap restaurant in Disneyworld besides the Avatar noodle bowls. 7/10
    • Outpost Mix Popcorn: MISS. Bland and confused. Just like the Blue Milk, this is more for show than taste. 4/10.
    7. The App - The whole thing is very fetch-questy (go scan these crates, etc.) but the deeper you go, the more rewarding it is. It’s especially fun while waiting in line for Smuggler’s Run and passing the time waiting for fast passes. You can also get the communication equipment in the land to do some fun stuff, which is satisfying in its own way.

    Summary
It should be noted that with only two main rides, it’s quite possible to “do” everything in about four hours. But even my wife, who is hardly a Star Wars fan, found herself saying she just wanted to “hang out” there. There’s so many random events going on, the side quests on your phone are a great way to waste time, and the space feels so transportive that you can just people watch for a while if you nab a spot in the shade. It also takes on an incredible feel later at night with different colors and a very relaxing atmosphere. The place is an indication of where Disney is going with its theme parks, and it’s a very strong direction. It is, objectively, the “next level” of theme park experience.

false. Yes, there are some bad episodes. Anything droid or Padme centric in CW is almost guaranteed to be terrible, but there are numerous outstanding story arcs that deserve full attention.

Rebels has some pretty bad episodes in season 1 as well, but season 2 and 3 are peak star wars.
