Won’t there be another crew behind them much the same? People are always looking for hope and these guys are there to capitalize on that.
GF's dad is literally one of the world's top immunologists. This is what she said that he said to his daughter about the Corona Virus (copy and pasting from her): "[He] said that it's pretty common for a fast acting infectious diseases to emerge like this--swine flu, h1n1 for example. It's really only a real public health threat in high population areas with limited/not great health care. So it's not something we should worry about. Death rate/severity is about the same as the flu. Which is not to say that the issue in China isn't a big deal, but that there's no real risk here." I'm not going to post his bio or anything, because I don't want him to be held liable for something he unofficially told his daughter, but this is why I'm not too worried about this virus at all.
Making up a GF to impress your internet friends is one thing, but pretending your imaginary gfs dad is a top immunologist is really weird
SIAP but there has been speculation about the possibility of Wuhan virus spreading thru people showing no symptoms. Not confirmed afaik. Has that been the case w SARS, MERS, etc?
Got some cool pics of the decontam done at Camp Andrews this week. They’ve done a really nice job there
How they supposed to eat if they aren’t stocked with food at home? Who’s ensuring all the utilities are staying operational?
Trip was in mid March and was supposed to go to Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh in the south more specifically. Trip is now postponed. Was flying Cathy Pacific (booked flights at the end of December and got a great deal (I wonder why)) and my understanding is Cathay has cancelled over half there flights, so not interested in connecting through HK. It doesn't make sense to go and then have a chance to get quarantined on the way to Vietnam or on the way back to the US. More concerned about how this affects the supply chain for us since China makes a bunch of parts and components for my suppliers.
Russian state-run tabloids are starting to push hard the conspiracy that the Coronavirus is an American bioweapon.
Apparently faux news is pushing that there were bio weapons labs in Wuhan. The narrative that I heard from a neighbor sounded very familiar. Only missing Randall Flagg.
People they're flying into Omaha tested positive. https://www.wowt.com/content/news/T...-flights-land-at-Omaha-airport-567941511.html
HK has been a lot cheaper than other connecting airports since the fall due to the media coverage of the protests there the last 8-9 months and the effect that's had on the airport volume. Certainly, this viral outbreak won't help. My family booked flights for the end of April to Beijing in mid-January. Those were most certainly impacted...$350/person round trip from Denver.
Wise decision. I thought about going this summer, but decided to save the coin for a better return trip. Japan has been my favorite place so far. I think you'll be just fine as long as higher ups don't get in your way. Enjoy!
it might be honestly Lotta ppl have thought that the pig Ebola thing that whipped through China was black ops driven to bring China to the negotiating table on trade this virus might put China into a massive recession, their entire economy is built on debt. The slightest slowdown and the house of cards might collapse
a.) a bioweapon that kills like 1% of those infected. OK. b.) if the Chinese economy is fucked so is everyone else's
Which is...not great, because people there are really worried about everything crashing and burning, at least in private.
My wife's company has a plant in Tianjin China and they have been locked since Chinese New Year. About 10% of their workers are stranded where ever they traveled bc they can't return home. They are having to ask permission to open back up, but to do so they are under massive restrictions. Can't run AC or heat. Have to monitor everyone's temperature in the factory. If anyone gets infected the entire plant goes on quarantine for 14 days. This has got to tank the world's GDP
Covid19 would be a terrible bio weapon. you’d want a R0 of influenza or a little less contagious as to not fuck your own people, but high enough to spread locally before containment could occur. Also would be super deadly, like 20%+ mortality to make it worth it. you know, like MERS, but slightly more contagious.
They manipulate their own currency and markets. Not disputing what you’re saying but I’m more worried about them completely crashing. We simply won’t see the warning signs because they’ll mask everything until bottom falls out.
Apple already announced today their numbers are down because of this. edit I can post the WSJ article if you want. Strange thing about this to me was the markets are closed. I’m sure it was strategic in some way.
Nobody wins from a Chinese recession. The entire world depends on Chinese manufacturing in some form or another, China's manufacturing collapses and the entire world shuts down.
I think it comes down to credibility. The guidance during earnings call a couple weeks ago stated that the virus affect was minimal. You saw a quick 5-6% pop post ER. However the tune started changing Tuesday of last week. Companies with Supply chain exposure to China all lowered guidance. Some even mentioned Black Swan event. They’re just updating stakeholders with the newest info, as they should. Hang seng and Shanghai are getting smoked tonight. US dip is inevitable tomorrow. Might as well take the hit with everyone and maintain trust amongst investors
Apparently Apple should've planned ahead faster https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/19/...ing-diversify-india-vietnam-trade-war-tariffs
