Someone went through my truck Christmas Eve and stole some presents. I’m fairly confident they found my keyless entry code in the initial theft because someone went through my truck again last night and I’ve been locking my shit obsessively since. I know my keyless entry card was in the truck and now I can’t find it. How do I disable or wipe the factory code they’re using? 2015 Ford F-150 king ranch.
What motor in the "14? I've got one with the 3.5 EcoBoost, just over 80k miles. Get 18mpg, pulls small (16' dual axle) trailer easily, and generally a fine truck. Next one will he a '17 or newer with aluminum bed and tweaked powerplant. "
good to hear. It’s a 3.5 ecoboost. Most of my miles are on the highway currently but that hopefully will be changing. I rarely tow anything. My main concern is I bought my ram that was similar (low miles but older) and it seems like the age is catching up on it. The other one I am looking at is a 2016 lariat with the 3.5.
If I was looking at long-term reliability on some of the newer Ford engines, is there consensus on the eco boost versus the NA 8cyl? I don’t care as much about horsepower, torque, towing capacity, and MPG as much as I do drivetrain longevity.
There were some issues with the early eco boosts, IIRC. Timing belt issues, I think. I believe those were resolved, but not sure what year, maybe ‘15, but perhaps earlier. It only affected some units, wasn’t a standard problem everyone encountered. Also, because it’s turbo charged, you can get carbon buildup over time. But I think it’s well-thought of. The V8 is a tank. If buy another F150 for my next vehicle, I’m not sure whether I’d get the boost or the V8. Probably the boost, but it would be a close call.
The answer is simple. V8. :) the consensus is the ecoboosts have been well engineered. You can't go wrong.
I am not sure if you can delete the factory code, but you can change the code to something else. You just need that original code if you ever lose or forget your new code. So if you change the code, I think the factory one they stole won’t work any more. Not 100% on that though.
If it's got a timing belt I recommend everyone stay away from it Unless you are only buying new and trading with less than 50k miles
Eco boost is a chain. The original design was a very long chain though. Think the 2nd gen tightened it up some
That I can’t remember. Probably so. I always used my own code but current truck doesn’t have a keypad
5.0 is a damn good, proven motor. 3.5 EcoBoost is on it's way to being the same, from what I can tell. I personally wouldn't want the 2.7 EB or the 5.4 NA.
It’s anecdotal, but we have a ‘12 F-150 with the 3.5 and 133k miles, and the only problem we’ve had so far is that it eats plugs after about 80k miles which causes a miss under hard acceleration.
I have a '07 with the 5.4 triton and it's still a beast. Had plugs changed out last year at 100k (bad misfires) but that's really about it other than normal repairs due to age. For my next truck I'm not sure which route I am going to go. I've been hearing really good things about the new Rams and Chevys, but it's going to be hard to move away from Ford.
Anyone who does their own oil changes ever look into the Fumoto Oil Plugs? They have a valve and in some cases a hose kit to allow for easy draining of the oil without spilling oil everywhere. I just picked one up and am going to install it on my first oil change.
Had something similar on an inboard wakeboard boat and it was awesome and easy. Also have one on my zero turn mower.
I have this on my mower as well I highly recommend not trying to drain the oil without the hose just because your frustrated and cant find the hose
My Ram is an 04.5 Cummins. The only reason I deal with it being a Dodge is because of the motor. I have gone through the whole front end and put Carli stuff on it, put the big steering box upgrade in it etc. But it has stupid shit going on with it all the time, because Dodge. Like the rear windows and locks and speakers quit working because the way they ran the wire loom through the door, it fatigues and breaks. The back up lights are currently not working and I've got to troubleshoot why. Constantly chasing and fixing little dumb shit, and then some of it is my own doing, full disclosure lol. My Dad has a 2011 F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote motor and he loves it. It's been stone reliable, he uses it for towing occasionally and he keeps it showroom fresh. It's a total fussy old man truck, bright red and with a flowmaster exhaust that I think is kind of obnoxious haha. It does ride really, really nice. I hate the SYNC system in that era especially. It's garbage, needs to be yarded out and replaced with a Pioneer HU that has CarPlay.
Owned both generations of the 5.4. Plenty for a 150, anemic in the 250. Coupled with some known weaknesses (plug ejection, exhaust manifold stud breakage), the mileage would turn me off. It did sound better than the EcoBoost, but that's the only upside I have. I'm with you on the brand, and I miss my 250, but can't justify owning one at the moment.
yeah this ram is my first truck. It just feels like it’s the beginning of tons of problems. I have always heard Ford was the most reliable of the bunch.
Not many chevy fans in here but my Silverado has been great for 160k. Just routine maintenance I will say that they are behind with the creature comforts that the other brands have standard, like back seat AC.
they finally added that in the 2019 models I’m on my 4th GM truck (95, 01, 07 Chevys, now a 15 Sierra)...the rumor is they’re probably going to redesign the interiors for the 21 models, so I’m gonna wait & see what happens there before I upgrade. I’ve got 83k miles on my Sierra so I’m not in any big hurry.
Isn't that the Ram reputation? I think I read they are getting better. Doesn't help you out tho I'm beginning to think the best value play is the Titan. Any of y'all own a newish one?
I think of Ram’s being more reliable than Chevy/GM, but I have nothing to base that on. I don’t know about titans, but frontiers are pieces of shit and I don’t trust Nissan to make a good truck.
I don't know anything about trucks but as a fiat Chrysler shareholder I encourage all of you to buy brand new Rams at sticker price
I have owned a ram for years. I really like it and the price was crazy good even though some people like to hate on them.
My ‘12 Silverado has had the normal GM problems. Rear end seal leak (replaced under warranty), and a shitty design in the oil lines to the cooler are starting to leak at 90k miles. Dealer wants $400 to replace them But rockauto has them for $40-55 for a new set which don’t have the transition where the leak occurs or oem. Will replace when I head back home and can work in the shop.
Gonna be replacing my ‘07 F150 prob in the next month or two. Really looking into the newer Rams now. Been reading a lot of good things. Anyone have one they really like?
I wish Toyota would update their dinosaur of a full-sized pickup. Tundra has gotten lapped by the competition, especially with what Ram has done with their interior.
Have an 2011 Silverado that I got new and have never had any issues other than replacing suspension components around 140k. Other than that it’s just been routine maintenance.
they need to revamp the whole thing. A full size pickup shouldn’t be getting 18mpg on the highway in 2020.
It’s interesting because the antiquated 4runner actually works as a platform in a watered-down market segment (SUVs that have become minivans.) Trucks have gone to heavily aluminum based bodies, turbocharged engines, 10spd transmissions. Would love to see a 1792 start to incorporate some of these things. Anything. Oh also keyless entry and ignition please.
Maybe it's worse in hot climates.. GM has been the most reliable for us and we've tried every make on our farm. The 5.3's have been great. They pull and get solid milage. I would never get a V8 if I'm not going to pull anything though.
So one thing I just thought of, no warranty is gonna cover if something goes wrong due the the lift or something goes wrong with the actually lift itself. I am probably right, yeah?
