    Loy's CB pick from yesterday

A new 247Sports Crystal Ball pick is in for Notre Dame and as always, Irish Illustrated has the latest details behind the pick.

On Sunday, we reported that Denton (Texas) Guyer high school four-star cornerback Deuce Harmon had locked in a visit to check out Notre Dame on Apr. 4. I’ve been close to putting in a pick for the Fighting Irish for a while, despite the pulse sitting heavily in favor of Texas A&M, and on Monday the pick went in.

I want to clarify that I’m putting plenty of trust in my sources on this one and taking a little bit of a risk with this pick, but well, that’s the fun of it. I spoke with three different people regarding the 5-9, 185-pounder and heard enough to pull the trigger on Notre Dame.

The first source made it extremely clear that he’s a wanted man by the staff in South Bend and the red carpet will surely be laid out when Harmon and his parents arrive for a visit this spring. At 5-9, 185 pounds, I wanted to make sure that size wasn’t a concern for anyone at Notre Dame and I learned that he’s very high on the board due to his physical nature, his strong, thick build, his athleticism and speed, and above all else, his ball skills.

The second source said that Harmon is “absolutely the type of young man that isn’t afraid to leave the state of Texas for a school like Notre Dame. He’s a great fit on and off the field.” Knowing he was coveted by the staff at Notre Dame, hearing he’s a great fit from someone in Texas, and learning that distance isn’t a concern for anyone in the home, that was impactful in my decision to Crystal Ball him to the Irish.

The third source on the Texas A&M side of things said that while the Aggies have done a great job with his recruitment, he’s not a lock to land with that program. He’s saying all of the right things to Notre Dame and surely the same could be said regarding his conversations with Texas A&M, but my source close to the Aggies was surprised there wasn’t already a pick in for Notre Dame based on what he had been hearing.

Special teams coordinator Brian Polian, defensive coordinator Clark Lea and safeties coach Terry Joseph are all tearing up to make sure Harmon lands at Notre Dame. The expected addition of new cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens will only help the Fighting Irish here, as they look to secure one of its top targets on the board in the secondary this cycle.

This will be a close, close battle between these two programs, and a few others will be in play as well, but as of today, especially with the early visit locked in, I’m going to take a bit of a flyer and trust my sources on this one. I like Notre Dame as of today for the No. 23 cornerback nationally and No. 47 prospect in the state of Texas from the class of 2021.

would be a great pickup IMO

    Loy on Speight

Notre Dame already landed two graduate transfers ahead of the 2020 football season in former Ohio State safety Isaiah Pryor and former Northwestern wide receiver Ben Skowronek.

Could the Fighting Irish land another before the start of next fall?

According to two sources very close to this prospect, Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have learned that Notre Dame has started to recruit former Stanford running back and graduate transfer Trevor Speights.

Not only have conversations gone extremely well so far, but we’re actually told the 5-11, 205-pounder is finalizing plans to get on campus for a visit in March. Running backs coach Lance Taylor is leading the way on this recruitment and if things go well on the visit between both sides and the staff is sure there is a spot for him, it’s hard to see him landing anywhere else.

On that relationship between player and coach, Taylor has actually known Speights and his family for years. He actually recruited the young man to Stanford a few years ago and played a major role in securing his commitment to play ball for the Cardinal. We’ll see if they get the chance to team up once again, but this time in South Bend at Notre Dame.

Speights, who didn’t carry the ball once this season after rushing 95 times for 363 yards and a score in the two years prior, is looking for a new home and a school with a strong blend of academics and athletics. It should be noted that with a degree already in hand from Stanford, this is a young man who is doing all he can to find himself in a position that will set him up for a shot to play at the next level, so the right fit football-wise will carry a great deal of weight here.

After not seeing action as a freshman or senior, Speights will have two years left to play two.

Coming out of Mcallen (Texas) Memorial high school in the class of 2016, Speights rushed 969 times for 9,868 yards and 114 scores in four seasons. With all eyes on him as as senior, he rushed for nearly 3,200 yards and 50 scores. That effort landed him scholarship offers from Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and many others.

The 247Sports Composite Ranked Speights as a three-star recruit, the No. 19 running back nationally and No. 65 prospect in Texas from the 2016 class.

Notre Dame’s current depth chart currently features Jafar Armstrong, Jahmir Smith, C’Bo Flemister, Kyren Williams and Avery Davis. The Irish also landed one of the top all-purpose backs this cycle in Chris Tyree.

Why would we take a RB who couldn't get on field for Stanford last year? I would much rather a CB

New 247 rankings are out. Colzie up, Buchner slightly up I think. Fisher dropped and Berrong fell like a stone.

Scratch that. I wasn't looking at composite. Buchner up to #30 in composite.

    Loy CBs Titus to ND

Here's the latest on the pick for Ewa Beach (Hawaii) James Campbell high school three-star athlete Titus Mokiao-Atimalala to end up at Notre Dame.

In case you missed it, we posted an in-depth story this week on Mokiao-Atimalala and his interest in the Fighting Irish. That story alone, featuring his quotes, should show you how high on Notre Dame he truly is.

In talking with Mokiao-Atimalala, sources close to him in Hawaii, people inside the Gug and even two coaches out west from other programs, there is a strong feeling that Notre Dame already leads in this recruitment and the two-way standout hasn't even made it to campus yet. That's usually a really good sing. There was a strong belief that Jordan Botelho was favoring Notre Dame before his visit to campus last cycle and that ended up paying off when he committed and eventually signed. I could see something similar happening when Mokiao-Atimalala heads to South Bend this summer for his official visit. I'm not saying that it's a sure thing that he commits, but I'll definitely have him on commit watch that weekend.

Mokiao-Atimalala is a terrific football player and he has a ton of ability at receiver and defensive back. Notre Dame likes him on both sides of the ball, but believes he has ridiculous upside in the secondary due to his athleticism, speed, knowledge of the game, ability play in coverage, and fearlessness when it comes to hitting the opposition. If he gives that a shot and works with defensive coordinator Clark Lea, safeties coach Terry Joseph, cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and learns from the guys already on campus, he could be an outstanding college player. The staff at Notre Dame believes he's that type of player.

We'll see how things play out, but I feel strongly that the 6-1, 175-pounder will end up at Notre Dame, at least based on what my sources are saying as of today.

Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Mokiao-Atimalala is the No. 350 overall player in the country, No. 31-ranked athlete nationally and No. 3 recruit in Hawaii from the class of 2021.

Obviously blocking a DE is going to be different than blocking a CB, but the dude is probably going to be an adequate run blocker at least judging off how he was one of the best run blocking WRs we ever had, and if he still runs in the 4.5s at 240-245, he's going to be a major issue at TE

Crazy that Djogo played 503 minutes in his sophomore year, and will have to go well into his graduate year to hit 503 minutes across his final three seasons. I didn't think he was that bad as a sophomore either. May play some more next year with Rex finally gone, but we just need warm bodies.

Down 10 to BC at halftime.

Mooney 7-8 FG (1-1 3 PT), rest of team 5-22 on FG (1-11 3 PT)

Would probably be the nail in the NCAA coffin barring a run to the ACC title game

EDIT: Down 7 lol, Rex 3 at the halftime buzzer
