Thanks, I appreciate that. just cracked the WLW. It has been a little while since I’ve had any of this and holy shit is it just as good as I remember. One of the few unicorn type bourbons to absolutely live up to the hype. Tastes like somebody removed 20% of the contents and replaced it with honey, yet it’s almost 130 proof. Just ridiculously good
Picked up a Heaven Hill BiB for $40 earlier tonight - didn’t expect to find that in the case when I walked into Spec’s
How’s everyone liking the heaven hill Bib? The reviews have been underwhelming, but I’ll probably still grab one if I see it.
Working on a review for this one tonight. Anybody ever tried it? Really unique nose, not sure if I love it or hate it yet
Nose is grapes and flintstone vitamins. Flip it over and sure enough, part of the distillate comes from Tennessee. You can’t sneak Dickel into anything
Verdict... it’s not for me. The flintstone vitamin is just not my thing. I will say that it’s the best of any bourbons I’ve tried that prominently feature that note, but it just doesn’t fit well with bourbon to me
There was talk about it itt previously but what was everyone's thought on the Caribou Crossing? Saw some store pick for the single barrel yesterday for $50 and was tempted.
Nice. Will run by and pick a bottle up this afternoon. I've never seen it either but stopped by a liquor store here in the Detroit area (here for work) and saw it.
It’s a shelfie down here I think it’s $50 at the store I see it at regularly, but I’m not sure because I’ve never bought it.
They are both made by Sazerac and the bottle is the same minus the topper. Never tried it, but wouldn’t be totally surprised by similarities.
Everything is made by Sazerac. The ever expanding blob of a company is acquiring more brands every year. They’ve positioned themselves to take over the entirety of the Canadian whiskey market too with offerings at every single price point. And they force stores to put their offering right next to its competitor, and price it a dollar below.
They’re both apparently made at the Buffalo Trace distillery and just marketed in different bottles in different countries.
a bit more info from Sazerac. http://www.sazerac.com/Admin\SazPortfolio\Caribou Crossing Brand Deck.pdf
Having a pour of the Russ Reserve 10 again after first getting it 2 months ago and having a pour. This may be my favorite everyday bourbon especially for the price. Won’t be surprised to see it jacked up in the near future
Anybody have a strong feeling one way or the other on Rowan's Creek? I had it a month ago in Louisville and really liked it...but, I was pretty deep into the night at that point so I'm not putting much faith in my taste buds at that point. I'll be back tomorrow and am gonna do some shopping before afternoon meetings...was thinking about picking one up along with a few other bottles.
Went into a liquor store across the way from my office to peruse the inventory. The guy had Blantons for $189, Willet 4 year Rye for $120, Russ Reserve 10 for $52, EHT single barrel for $139. I laughingly asked if anyone buys the Blantons for that price before walking out. I could have asked that question for all those but the Blantons was the most shocking
