Are you not familiar with 90's Prong? They had quite a bit of success with 'Cleansing'. My buddy sees them every time they come to town, he's never been able to convince me to go though.

I'm not but I'm pretty sure Korn is familiar with that first song because of the riff at 1:14

this is one of my favorite releases from the Icelandic black metal scene. most of the stuff that comes from those bands is really dissonant and abrasive (a la Deathspell Omega), which isn’t really my thing.

On this album it seems like these guys from
Misþyrming have found a way to work in melody with that dissonance and it clicks pretty well.

Side note: guy on the album cover looks like he’s doing a kettlebell swing. Can’t unsee it.

There are two Opeth songs that I really want to see live. Saw them play "Wreath" in 2008, just need to see Blackwater Park and The Night and the Silent Water..........or Reverie/Harlequin Forest.

It's gonna be my first big metal show in a while, I'm pretty pumped.

The best set I saw was when they opened for Dream Theater in 2008. Blew them out of the water.

    Master's Apprentice

these Max Volume Silence recordings from St. Vitus in Brooklyn are all superb quality. Sounds like it's taken straight from the mixer.

tons of great bands too. St. Vitus is probably the single best metal venue in the US.

Definitely a soundboard recording. Sexthrash69 has a lot of the shows that go through California, not quite the sound quality though.

Honestly proud of L.A last night, we have a reputation for being a shitty audience. We had a big ass pit down the middle of the whole ground floor for pretty much the whole show.
They opened with Dignity, and there was a moment where his voice didn't sound super solid. By the end of the night he was singing like a golden god.

joe it's been a while since I've fished for likes, well really like, with my currently listening to Still Life posts, but I'm currently listening to Still Life

still really disappointed to see how little traction my Godhead's Lament write in got during that Lost in Vegas tournament a while back shaking my damn head

Still Life is my favorite album in my favorite genre by my favorite band, so feel free to fish for likes more often :gfa:

LiV listening to Godhead's Lament would have been awesome because there are 3 or 4 parts in the song that I think define that style of progressive metal.

Anyway, the two LiV guys are adults (early 30s if I had to guess) with their own tastes that had been developed well before they dove into metal for the first time and I envy them so much for that. The guy on the left is basically me every time I'm listening alone in the car or mowing my lawn or whatever.

I don't because I think I missed the hate. I didn't really listen to an Opeth album until 2007 or 2008, and even then I wasn't into the death metal vocals.

Shitwater Park came out to a lot of early poor reviews, Opeth drifted further away from what the old fans liked but gained a much bigger base in the end.

i suppose all thrash with a darker feel and harsh vox is death thrash to me. black fast and this fellows band are pretty similar in feel despite the difference in vocal styles. vektor is much of the same just of the progressive variety.

again, just how i interpret things.
