It's rained 2 inches over the night and my yard is going to be out of control and I won't be able to mow it for a couple days. Problem is when it dries out I'll be working and when I get home it'll already be dark outside.

I mean I do have the greenest lawn in the neighborhood so that's a plus I guess. I'll also have the tallest grass come the weekend.

I may need to have my tree thinned out. I have a beautiful lawn on one side where its not shaded, but under the tree closest to the house, its almost bare. I re-sodded the area last year and water consistently. Its crazy.

without searching through this thread, I assume there is an easy fix, but what to do about some areas of my yard that the fescue has spread into my bermuda? Can I wait until the peak of winter when bermuda is dormant and spray some roundup on the fescue? Or will that still kill my bermuda?

Some areas of the yard need the blend, but this area is full sun and the bermuda does great all summer, so I would prefer it be 100% here.

Personally I would be too scared to spray round up on dormant grass. Easiest solution is just wait till Bermuda gets going again in the spring and it'll take over that fescue pretty quickly.

its been like this for 2 years. If anything, I feel like the fescue ratio is increasing. Not sure how, I keep waitnig for the bermuda to choke it out, kept it short in some hot months and it didn't do the trick.

i read one that said use a rag or something thats soaked in it, and 'paint' it on essentially. That way any bermuda that's still green closer to the roots wont be touched like if you were to spray it

Recommendations to keep ants out of brick pavers? They keep popping up in my driveway and patio. I put some Terro bait stations around the patio which seemed to work. I hate putting down granules on the driveway so I’ve been lazy and just spray the mounds as they pop up with Ortho.

Buy some demon wp and spray mounds when they come up. That stuff kills everything.

Spraying the whole yard with 2-4-d today and spreading some corn gluten on the extra lot to try and knock out grass burrs

Weather is perfect for it today

Did the same but went with some combo of 2,4-D and something else... and now we’ve got a light rain. It had plenty of time to dry so hopefully it wasn’t a wasted effort.

I have compadre and zenith zoysia. While they'll grow in the shade they still very much prefer mostly sunny. I have one shady spot in my yard that always gets much thinner than the rest of the yard that is all sun.

Does soil temp matter for preemergents and the like? I've probably missed that window here in Birmingham, but it's been so damn rainy this February that I haven't been able to put anything out in a window where the weather is decent. If temp doesn't matter, I'm going to do this tomorrow, then try next week to seed some in my back yard.

Short answer, yes. You want your pre emergent herbicide out a few weeks before germination. Also, double check the timeframe on seeding with your herbicide. I’d hate for you to waste time and effort by seeding and the herbicide affect that.

If the weeds popping up are the weeds you are trying to control, I would say it's too late for premergent

Thos is why I just put down both granular corn gluten (pre) and liquid 2-4-d (post)
The corn gluten will hopefully take care of grass burrs that havent started coming out and the 2-4-d will hopefully take care of the clovers and dandelions that have started popping out

Too late. You may catch some that are still germinating, but it would be better to switch your game plan to a selective herbicide

Should have clarified: preemergent is on the front yard (bermuda), seeding would be backyard (which has to be a shade fescue, even though we're too far south).

Generally speaking you want to put out preemergent when soil temps get around 55 degrees, then do a second application when they are reaching 70 degrees. I've had the best results with prodiamine and at this point I use granular. Liquid gives better results in my experience but it's way more a pain in the ass to do and granular is good enough.

For crabgrass, it’s what matters most. It has to be active for the pre-emergent to work.
Do you always seed in spring? We see a lot better results with Fall seeding.

The issue here was the unusually hot and dry fall. I feel like every year I've needed to re-seed that this is the issue. I agree that Fall is preferred: root system already can get together, etc. My concern is more just to have decent yard in early/late Spring to control runoff and have something for the kids. I use Rebels Shade Blend usually. If the Summer is average to cooler, it holds up. Otherwise...nah. But I have huge pecan trees in the backyard, so the light is all filtered or minimal hours.

I take care of landscaping for a couple of buildings we own that are fescue and I had this same problem last year. Took forever for temps to drop low enough, think it was almost end of October before I could put any seed out. Got shit results so I'm going to try and do some spring seeding this year and see how it goes. Summer will suck taking care of weeds but it needs some seed.

In GA, I’ve got weeds everywhere, but everything id read said it was too cool for preemergent. And I just stuck spot treating everything now until I can do weed and feed or is there another solution?

I'm not in Georgia but North Carolina is pretty close to same temps. You probably just have winter weeds, preemergents are put down to stop weed seeds from germinating, so you put it down now to stop summer weeds. You put it down again some time in the fall to stop winter weeds. It is however too cool and early for a weed and feed if you have warm summer grass, why it's better to do them individually. Here is the preemergent that I use:

    https://www.domyown.com/crabgrass-control-plus-with-037-prodiamine-herbicide-p-18791.html

For fertilizer I just generally use milorganite which you can pick up at most home depot, lowes, etc.
