Tyler Childers was incredible and I consider it a 2 headliner show Tulsa Turnaround (Kenny Rodgers cover) was awesome and that guy is obviously an elite talent. I’ve seen Sturgill in bars, theatres, music halls, and outdoor festivals. I think the arena audience took him a while to settle into and get comfortable with, he kept his shades on the entire night. Made me remember his quote about not wanting to be a jukebox. Sturgill ran through S&F with pace in its entirety. Then made a comment (paraphrasing), “y’all ready for the show actually came to see”. They started hitting their stride In the second half of his set post S&F. And at one point said “maybe I could get used to this” I seriously think (and hope) his next album will be a reggae album. One of my favorite songs they played last night was Sarah with a heavy reggae sound. He also made the comment About his next album being reggae jokingly on one podcast I listened to maybe JRE. Overall it was a great show and the set definitely evolved. Glad I got to see them on the first night because I’m going to Nashville (2nd to last) and I’m sure it will be an entirely different show. I’ll post more later when I’m not on mobile. -
Damn that poster is nice. I didn't see anything like that when he came to Houston that year. I’ll be getting one of those shirts for sure.
sorry, I've had company this weekend. I'm not versed enough to TC to have a commentary on his show. I barely knew his songs but his stuff and band were fantastic.
No problem just asking start time and how long the event lasts. There’s a pre show pass thing with complimentary drinks and shit. First reason I ask is I don’t want to miss the start of TC. Second is I don’t want to sit in pre show bullshit for three hours.
I’m excited to see Tyler but not more than Sturgill. I’ve always managed to miss Tyler when he’s come through or at festivals. Also Feathered Indian is one of my wedding songs. My bff loves it.
Haha I like Childers a lot more than I do Sturgill, but I like Sturgill too. I just can never understand anything he says when he sings.
Childers was better than Sturgill. Sound and Fury wasn’t great live. Hopefully it gets better as the tour goes on.
Well it’s a good thing they’re both playing! Really just because I prefer TC doesn’t mean I don’t like Sturgill. They’re both top 6-7 artists for me.
I love Sturgill and his angsts hatred of the establishment, but if he half asses all of Sound and Fury before launching into the rest of the set in Dallas next month,
How many of these people wanted country only Sturgill and not jam out rock Sturgill? Music is all about your own ears. But how many people had expectations weren't met because they were not in line with what was about to go down.
There should be no reason sound and fury sucks live, especially after the live effort he put in on the last tour
Sucks for me I have to wait a couple months to make my call. Two nights in Nashville. I doubt I agree.
I'm going to die on the Sturgill hill until I see different live. I saw Tyler at the Ryman a few weeks ago.
Sound & Fury was incredible at the club show I went to in the fall. A buddy went with me and it was his first sturgill show. He’s a big live music/phish guy and said it was a top 3 show for him last year out of the 100+ he went to
So we reached the point where musician X now sucks because musician Y is out there and I like them better stage of Sturgill's career Never change ever fickle fandom
Dude said Sound & Fury made him not like Sturgill anymore because he got weird. Ummm Sturgill has always been pretty out there.
I'd take Sunday Valley all day long over Sound and Fury. My main distaste for S&F is the electronics. It's unlistenable
I’ll admit some of the stuff on S&F is a bit overproduced (I realize that was kind of the point), but Remember to Breathe at max volume is a fucking heater. And Mercury in Retrograde is a great sing along type track. The album is far from “unlistenable”.
