ehhh I would say overall on any luxury car they are just because your insuring a more expensive asset not just Tesla in particular
Well yea, of course the higher the value the higher the insurance. I just didn't know if Tesla was higher than most in that range bc of the repair costs issues.
Gotcha. I must have read something wrong in the exchange. So not overly expensive, just a super long wait for them, which causes high rental car bills?
can cause high rental car bills when it’s a claimant if your an insured you probably only have like 30 days max.....but yeah like LA said you gotta listen to the customer bitch and cry about how they are out of a car for months like as if we can do anything about it, when it’s all on Tesla
Oh for sure, I'm sure that gets old. I don't think most people know they have a 30 day max on rentals though so they are surprised when they find out. If not for reading itt, I wouldn't know that.
The reason for higher labor rates is due to the equipment needed for certain vehicles, along with the training for the technicians working on them. Porsche and Audi structurally certified costs hundreds of thousands of dollars if not $1m plus. It umbrellas everything minus Tesla, in certain aspects. When you’re the owner of one of these vehicles, you’re made aware of the closest certified shop, from the manufacturer. It isn’t hammer and dolly, wipe some bondo and send it to paint.
Haha, I can understand why. Almost all of the luxury brand vehicles now go into “limp mode” when they take a decent hit.
She had a TT and the battery was dead and it was absurdly high to change it bc of where it is in the car and how much they had to take apart to get to it.
And even to this point like on a Audi or Porsche they have no roof mouldings so even if you have a tiny dent on the quarter panel you have still have to clear coat 2/3rds of the car so your taking apart tons of stuff from both sides of the car and roof to just paint a tiny small dent which you blinking your eye a $1500 dent on your Civic is $6000-7500 job on your A5
Yep, whether it’s your conventional battery or the second in the rear. It costs an arm and a leg, especially at a dealership.
When it comes to damages like this I always let the customer know a PDR (if possible) might be the best route. If there’s a tiny chip in the paint I ask if they can live with it. If they can’t, they get the full on estimate for repairs.
Got an email from Rivian this morning. Wife and I are already going to Miami sometime in April for some house stuff so it would be cool to check this thing out. Here's where we are bringing the R1T and R1S next: Miami | April New York City | May Los Angeles | May Boulder | June Chicago | July Detroit | August
most people who have rental coverage on their own policy have 30 days. that was probably what dbl was referencing
Ya, what I was trying to say is most people don't know/care because what car is in the shop for 30+days? Tesla has to be near the top if not for length of rentals. $40/day 30 day max policy here. They got wife's car done in 5 days (4 days for quarter panel, then we picked it up because rim was 2 weeks out). Quart panel repair and rim. Insanely fast.
Wasn't it confirmed that the driver was playing video games on his phone and not paying attention? I don't understand how Telsa can improve people not being fucking stupid
they could start by not trying to pass it off as actual autopilot. Pretty sure that report is critical of how Tesla has marketed their “self driving” and make customers aware of their responsibility.
I had a 2003 a4 and it was a fucking nightmare. No non-dealership could get the oil filter off so all oil changes had to go through the dealership that charged way too much. I hit about 104k miles and had an oil leak and the dealership charged me $3500 for and couldn’t guarantee it would be fixed as it was an issue with that engine design. Got a new car 2 weeks later and the trade in value was $3200. Can’t speak to BMW and Mercedes but I never wanna own another German car again.
