    Fox Sports and ESPN were always pretty good. NBCSports app sucked for a long time.

    In my experience, at least.

    So is Hulu the only one who carries these channels? I think I saw DTV/ATT Now has it but it's $10 more. Am I missing one?

    Any free Mac to Roku casting options? I can’t find one that actually works. That or an NHL streaming channel for Roku.

    All negotiations are different. It seems as if Sinclair may have finally blinked, so to speak. That, or Google didn't like the super early returns on them making the announcement yesterday.

    I'm guessing they both blinked.

    I bet Sinclair assumed people wouldn't realize they are the problem and would just blame YTTV. All the anger I saw online was definitely targeting Sinclair.

    I bet YTTV underestimated how many people would drop their service because of it. I know I was not nice in my exit survey.

    Sinclair is becoming the new Charter or Time Warner in terms of bad customer sentiment. People know who they are, the shit they pull, and the type of propaganda they force on their local affiliate stations. What sucks is that customers have no way to directly affect them.

    I work in the this industry.

    It isn't at all common for TV companies to make these things public themselves, as it's a lot easier for customers to take out their frustration on the TV company, by cancelling service, than on the content owners. That's why TV companies complain about it when content owners make things public:
    AT&T: "We’re disappointed to see The Walt Disney Co. put their viewers into the middle of negotiations."
    Dish: "We are unsure why the FOX RSN group... decided to involve customers in the contract negotiation process at a point when there is still time for the two parties to reach a mutually beneficial deal."

    I would imagine that YTTV's announcement has been especially bad for them because of the finality of their initial statements and because they didn't even try to blame Sinclair for the takedown, instead framing it just as an industry reality.

    There’s been multiple times where DirecTV or Cox have said they’re dropping XYZ local station effective this date and then they come to an agreement, typically before the date they said they were dropping the station. You don’t think that announcement plays a part in the negotiations?

    Ok? So Google/YTTV went a unique route and beat Sinclair to the punch by announcing first. Looks like they knew what they were doing. I'll bet the types of comments below just kill you lol

    These kinds of announcements definitely play a part. But they harm the TV company more than the content owner.

    “While Nexstar believed progress was being made in the negotiations, DirecTV misled Nexstar as it requested that viewers not be informed about the pending expiration as long as negotiations were continuing to be constructive,” Nexstar said.

    Last year, before one of the largest locals takedowns of the year, DTV asked Nexstar not to run a crawl on Nexstar stations about the impending takedown. Nexstar obliged because they thought the deal was close. Otherwise they would have run the crawl because the public knowledge puts more pressure on the TV company than the content owner.

    It's not a matter of which company announces first. It hurts the TV company more because in general people care more about being able to watch the content they want than keeping a service they like.

    You've said that twice now and it's simply just not true. In some instances, sure, but not all, so making that declarative statement saying that's always the case shows either bias or lack of knowledge.

    Anyone who has ever been in any industry and had to negotiate or work in sales knows that every business negotiation is unique. So making a blanket statement like saying a certain strategy always hurts one side more than the other is....dumb.

    people are unsubscribing from YTTV, Sinclair is still on multiple other platforms. This undoubtedly hurts YTTV more than it hurts Sinclair.

    One cannot make such a claim without an understanding of the lost "sales" or "revenue" for each party. The rights holders (Sinclair) paid the entities (MLB, individual teams, whoever) a pretty penny for the exclusive rights to distribute.

    I'm talking about the impact of one facet (public knowledge) of a specific negotiation (carriage dispute for channel/service) in a particular industry (pay tv).

    So far I've provided evidence showing that
    1) TV companies complain when these situations are made public
    2) TV companies try to get content owners to not make these situations public
    3) Even when making the situation public themselves, TV companies overwhelmingly receive more negative feedback than the content owners

    But yeah, maybe I'm wrong about this situation because the outcome might be different if it were some other strategy in a different negotiation in a different industry.

    My NBCSN app stopped working on my RokuTV and Roku stick. just loads 1/3 and says retrieving and just sits there.
