They have not played that song in Atlanta. And they never pretended to beat anyone at any show. They had four guys in Bush masks come on stage in Atl and hold Ed above their heads for the end of Porch.
I swear they played it in 2003. I was pretty drunk must be misremembering. It was definitely more that just holding him up. It went on for quite awhile and got pretty awkward from what I recall but again I was hammered.
I was there too. They played Bushleaguer the night before in Nashville(my first show) and it was met with a good bit of boo's. 04/19/03 – Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater: Atlanta, GA support act: Sparta set: Love Boat Captain, Corduroy, Save You, Hail Hail, Grievance, Elderly Woman, Even Flow, 1/2 Full, Thumbing My Way, I Am Mine, Insignificance, Glorified G, Present Tense, Animal, State of Love and Trust, Blood enc 1: Crown Of Thorns, Black, Alive, Porch enc 2: You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away, Crazy Mary, Baba O’Riley, Yellow Ledbetter notes: ‘Corduroy’ has a lyric change to “Can’t buy what I want because it’s PEACE.” ‘Grievance’ lyric changes are “I would like to taste every Georgian I see” and “I want my free speech.” Before ‘Elderly Woman,’ Ed mentions fond memories of Atlanta and how they had been looking forward to this show. He says they got a call on a cell phone from the people behind the large American flag that folks in the crowd are holding up … “it’s not that they are being unpatriotic; they just can’t see anything … they’re being blinded by the flag if you know what I mean.” ‘You Are’ is attempted twice after ‘Thumbing My Way,’ but Stone has technical problems with the sound and says, “We’ll see if we can get that one sorted out,” but it never resurfaces. Ed says, “That song we just attempted to play is a love song written by Matt Cameron; this one was written by me. When Matt writes a love song it’s about someone else. When I write a love song I write it about myself. This song’s about claiming your own personal space and that that’s okay,” leading to ‘I Am Mine.’ Before ‘Glorified G,’ Ed notes, “This is another song in the Pearl Jam catalog that has to do with weaponry.” ‘Present Tense’ is introduced as “a song we haven’t played for a long, long time. We’re gonna give it a try.” Amazing. At the top of the first encore, Ed thanks Atlanta and refers to ‘Olympic Platinum’ (from the ’96 fan club single): “We didn’t know if you’d let us back after that one.” He says they are making it up as they go, leading to ‘Crown of Thorns,’ with Brendan O’Brien on keyboards and a nice jam in the middle. Stone hits a wrong note at the start of ‘Alive,’ causing the band to create a little crazy musical dissonance before going into a proper version of ‘Alive.’ Four guys in the crowd wearing Bush masks are noticed by Mike and they are pointed out with a security flashlight. During ‘Porch,’ they are brought up on stage, each individually introduced as “George Bush Jr. and friends of Ed’s. Ed says, “We’re all looking for support, we all want support” and the four boost Ed up above their heads and the band returns from the ‘Porch’ jam to “hear my name, take a good look …” with Ed being held high with the four “Bush’s.” Hilarious! After the encore break, Ed says, “I probably shouldn’t tell you this because it’s an issue of national security, but the Bush’s are partying backstage, pretty heavy. It’s historical. It’s the first time we’ve ever had cocaine backstage at a Pearl Jam show … You know it’s nice to be supported by our government, that felt good.” Ed continues about cutting the Veteran’s Administration Fund. “I support the troops. I want them to stay alive. I want them to be well paid. And I want them to get their healthcare paid for. Their kid’s education paid for. While we’re at it, let’s pay teachers more. They’re on the forefront. I’d say an education is pretty good ammunition to face the world with. We weren’t even going to say anything tonight, but someone brought the flag and a few other things. That’s freedom of speech there. We’re all just practicing freedom of speech. It seems to be working out all right, let’s just keep it alive.” Ed’s lovely solo version of ‘You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away’ is followed by the ‘Crazy Mary,’ ‘Baba O’Riley,’ ‘Yellow Ledbetter’ punch, with the band having a great time. The last half of the show is full of extended rocking jams and crowd interaction. “Thank you, Georgia. Atlanta rocks!”
Catching them in Phoenix. Never seen them live before. The whole no reselling/Safetix thing will be interesting to see play out.
I missed the birth of my 2nd child because I was at a PJ concert. In my defense, he was born earlier than expected. Wife was not very impressed at the time, but its a good story to tell now.
Lincoln in 2014. The show was actually the night before the birth. Wife called the next morning and said it was happening and to get my ass home, but I was too far away from home to make it back in time.
I had Louis CK tickets when my first was born. My wife decided to wait until the next day when her doctor could home so she sent me to the show and I came back after.
If you are even a moderate fan of their music you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been to a ton of horrible shows, in general, they’re never one of them. I don’t even listen too often at this point honestly, but I have all discs made for all shows I’ve been too that are available.
Haven't seen them in 10 years. Went to a good bit of shows in the 2000s. Saw them at the Vic in Chicago in 2007 which was the single best show/setlist I think I'll ever see
I don't remember anything else off that album, only that if I saw it on setlists I'd consider different shows from their live CD/download bootlegs.
Buddy of mine is flying out to see them in Phoenix. My sister is flying to see them in LA. I'll absolutely be in to see them in the SE if they are anywhere near FL/GA. Saw them in JAX last go 'round and it was a fantastic show.
If they hit several Florida spots again I'm going to try and go to 2-3 shows. Wife wants to go to another and my kid as well. I've got a couple spots left for Pearl Jam concert posters I've been collecting. Need to fill them in. Still can't find Atlanta 2000 or 2003 anywhere for sale. My wife found the 2008 Columbia show I was at with some guy in Australia and had it shipped over.
I've actually been able to see them here in Columbia my last two times. Willing to go anywhere in SC/NC/GA though
Outside of 90s stuff I largely listen to punk these days. Turning on FM "rock" radio makes me want to kill myself.
Idles is opening for them in Europe. I was hoping they’d be opening in the US as well, they would be an absolute blast live. Check them out if you haven’t already fits your punk scheme.
Agree. Loved the solo and groove of the song. Mike is killing it this album. will need to grow on me generally though. Listened to DOTC enough now that I really like it.
Yeah definitely going to flub it. His running list of fucking up the song: Immortality Wishlist Do the Evolution Satan's Bed I'm pretty sure he just sang the chorus that one time in State College
I bought tickets to go hear Gigaton before it comes out in Dolby 3D audio with some visual presentation at a movie theater. This is probably going to suck but only $12.
That sounds really cool. Doesn't appear to be coming anywhere close to me though https://pearljam.com/onenightonly/screenings/
Seems to be selling out quickly except in Tampa where there were only 8 seats sold by the time I saw it. Ill just make it a date night with the wife and go out to dinner beforehand.
When track number 4, some shitty no effort mid-tempo song written by Matt comes on I'll yell PLAY LAST EXIT!!!!!

That was a great run. I really wish I had left the Crowes after 06 and seen more PJ. PJ skipping the south(still pretty much) made the Crowes eww asier to see.
