Trade him to the Pats so he can finally be recognized as the best qb in the league

I don't see how it would help. The draft is more than 2 months away. The teams calling us to move up would theoretically be interested in Stafford, too, so they would know. And if we traded Stafford, we wouldn't be looking to trade down from #3.

I am fully prepared to trade Slay for a 4th round pick and be annoyed by it.

Nobody is going to give Slay the contract he wants or trade a 2nd rounder for him.

MG2 I think it was you who was looking at the cap hit on Stafford. Looks like the reporting of the contact details was misconstrued.

    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/s...oit-lions-traded-matthew-stafford/4786833002/

Distilled down, here's what it means: If the Lions were to trade Stafford prior to exercising the option bonus, the dead money the team would be responsible for in 2020 would be $24.8 million, not $32 million.

That means the Lions would still be paying a steeper cap hit to ship Stafford out than keep him, but it would be a far more manageable amount than originally reported — basically $3.5 million more compared to $10.7 million.

Is Stafford a Lion in 2022?

Probably not because we will likely have a new GM by then.

Was at the Combine yesterday - Simmons, Gallimore (DT from Oklahoma), and one or both of the Davis brothers from Nebraska (so difficult to tell them apart) were easily the most elite prospects. Lions need to draft Simmons, but I’m certain they’ll fuck it up and draft a bust in any event.

I think Simmons, Okudah and Young all have extremely low bust potential. They will probably take Tua and he will crack his hip again in training camp and retire from football.

Patricia won’t even consider Simmons. He wants his LBs to be bigger guys that just take up space in run fits. You would think he might want to evolve as a coach, but he’s shown almost no inclination that he will evolve.

We are for sure taking Brown or Okudah. Even if Chase Young is available, I’m convinced we would take Brown or Okudah.

And I should add that Brown and Okudah are likely both going to be damn good players. My frustration is more with the fact that Quinn and Patricia aren’t likely willing enough to try and fit players to scheme instead of scheme to players.

When both are inevitably fired, we are going to have a bunch of big, slow defensive players no other coach can make work.

Simmons would't play LB if we took him, IMO. I think we'd play him at SS in base D and then move him around on passing downs. With that athleticism, I can see that. I don't think we'll pick him, though.

I like all of Okudah, Brown and Simmons. I think Okudah has by far the lowest bust percentage of the three, though. DTs seem to have high best rates, and Simmons' success seems as dependent on how he's used as it is how talented he is.

In some ways, Simmons in the top 5 kind of feels like the defensive version of taking a TE in the top 5.

    NFL.com has us trading #3 for #5, #26, #56 and a "pick next year"

SI has us trading #3 for #12, #19 and a first next year

I'd jump on either of those trades, especially first one. We still get Okudah, Simmons or Brown at 5 and chances are all 3 could still be there

If Miami is offering that to move up for Tua, I don't see why Washington wouldn't just take that offer. Is Chase Young really that much more valuable than something like Okudah + a 1 and 2 this year?

I'm hoping we can trade back, but I'm never going to get my hopes up we get that much from Miami. I'll be thrilled if we can land a 2nd rounder to go with #5.

I don't think I want that Oakland trade down, but I could be talked into it if it happened.

That first trade would be great, but it seems like a lot. An extra second for the Lions this year is basically a WR with a 1st round grade.

Is Slay better than Bouye? Seems like this kind of sets that market if they're comparable.

I know this is a crazy WR draft, but the Hopkins deal (combined with stuff like the Bouye trade a few weeks back) seems like a bad sign for a potential Slay trade. I think we're moving him no matter what, but at this point a mid-3rd rounder would seem like a decent return.

they've been selling us that Crosby was a good replacement for Wagner. Does this mean they planned on moving him inside to replace Glasgow or that they were lying?

Michael Brockers got 3/$30M from Baltimore. We're rumored to be in the DT mix for the higher end guys, and that deal leads me to think players like Hargrave and Reader probably end up getting somewhere in the $13-14M a year neighborhood.

Depends on which QB they want. If it's Herbert, do they really need to move up? And if it's Tua, I would think the draft staying in April hurts his value considering teams can't fly him in for medical evals and he won't be able to do a pro day in front of anyone. Even if Tua's your guy, are you really giving up significant assets to go get him with that kind of risk?

Could be. I just think it's less likely they go all in for Tua, and if they're not going all in, is Washington dropping from 2 to 5 knowing that means no Chase Young? I think it's far more likely the Lions would take a lesser deal to move back than Washington.
