You guys haven't been to the plaza? I actually stopped going because there were too many bad situations going down there.
Upsidedown Plaza is a classic man. Been there since the 60s. My 71 year old boss tells me stories about the UP.
Plaza was a neo nazi hangout at one point. It was all over that documentary they made back in the 90s about the skinheads in 5 points. Place is a shit hole for sure. They used to play the shit out of Halo in there at like 1:00 in the afternoon. I went with a buddy to shoot pool about 5 years ago, we felt pretty uncomfortable and left after a few games. Definitely the kind of dive where people get stabbed and not the fun, fuck shit up kinda dive like The Nick. it’s a dark damp hole and the subterranean aspect heightens or does something I can’t quite describe to the atmosphere in there. edit: and reddit just told me their long tenured bartender died last year after “removing unruly patrons.”
I feel like someone else was shot there in the last few years as well. Much rather go to the Nick and Marty’s late night.
https://www.al.com/news/2020/02/gov...-getting-the-facts-on-gambling-expansion.html 48 states have a lottery. 40ish have legalized gambling. Alabama is going to do a study to find out the unknowns of gambling in 2020.
Note we put a Methodist Bishop on the committee, but did not put a casino operator. That doesn’t seem fair.
To continue the theme, we have a medical marijuana bill that's going up for vote that's about as restrictive as it can be and even it is DOA. https://weartv.com/news/local/medic...-first-vote-in-alabama-legislature-02-16-2020 AG Marshall broke with Alabama's eternal state's rights obsession and decided we're subservient to federal law: https://abc3340.com/news/local/atto...makers-opposing-medical-marijuana-legislation So we can't allow marijuana because it's federally prohibited but we can pass an anti-abortion law that's purposefully unconstitutional. This state is such trash.
Thanks. I had no say in that. The girl who sold the bridesmaid dresses (and a friend of lady Tegg’s) submitted us.
Is it me or is Birmingham airport THE WORST when it comes to time you spend waiting for your checked luggage in baggage claim?
I’d say it’s 10-20 minutes slower than hubs, but on par with other small airports. I plan on waiting for ~40 minutes if I land on a Sunday after 7pm
The last time we landed, back last summer, they didn't have enough personnel to work the gates. We had to sit on the taxi way for awhile until they got the gate ready. Our pilot repeatedly apologized for the inconvenience
What are everyone’s thought on Amendment 1? The only thing I can imagine that would be worse than the average Alabamian voting for state school board would be having them be appointed by a governor of Alabama.
Agreed, but it literally cannot get any worse than it currently is so I've somehow convinced myself to vote to give the governor more power and appoint the board members. Happy to be convinced otherwise, though.
It may be wise to appoint rather than elect, but API’s reason for it is grossly transparent; we know we will have a republican super majority for the foreseeable future, so let’s make sure none of these liberals have anything to do with the education system.
Wasn't there a law passed a few years ago to give more power to the local governments? Home rule or something??? If so, this seems quite contradictory.
Yeah I just remember a lot of talk a few years ago about it. Can't remember what the deal was but remember something about local governments wanting more power. I thought that there might have been a vote on it.
Would need a re-write of the constitution. Municipalities have been fighting for it for quite some time, but to no avail. I much prefer working in Georgia. Far less restrictive. You can actually affect change here.
This is exactly the reason I voted No. Not like it’s great now but I’ll be damned if the evangelicals decide they want a creationism-based curriculum and have more power to enact it.
Dripping Gold was quite good. I really loved Suspended Moments which was their collab with Heist Brewing
Finally some nice weather this weekend. Anything fun going on Saturday? Edit: chili cook off Saturday?
There is so much information on all sides with this. I'm very anti-death penalty, but anyone want to tl;dr for me on this? From what I've read, he didn't even pull the trigger, so I don't understand the death penalty rap in this case.
