    You don't date?

Also it would make sense to go downstairs from time to time for human interaction at the very least.

why would you take that much of a cut? I can only assume you really don’t like your current job or your commute is going to significantly improve?

That’s my dilemma. I really dislike my current job and I can see a future career path with this new company and role. I absolutely don’t want to take that cut, but it may be a good long term move.
Commute and logistics are a wash.

Are you currently overpaid (compared to market value) or is this other company offering significantly less than fair market value? Is it a smaller, private company with some equity potential?

It’s a complete industry change. I’d be moving out of the tech and insurance realm and into ops and logistics. The common thread is people leadership. Current and prospective role pay are both in pretty in line with market value for the role. I’d be taking a step back initially with the goal of eventually advancing further than my current role would allow.
Who knows, maybe they like me enough to match what I asked for and it’s a win-win.

I hear ya. Short term money isn't always the answer. If you feel like the other role will put you further along 3-5 years from now, that's probably the better move.

It would seem like one of those complexes where all of the first floor is designed for the businesses and the second and third floors are housing units. My company apparently elected to expand their space and just went up when the space became available instead of waiting for a bigger space on the first floor to open up. I don't know how that works as far as zoning goes but that's what it seems like.

So my new job is giving away a defibrillator (we’re in the healthcare industry, kind of) and wants to get the press release distributed to media across the country. Like who does she think is going to be publishing or airing that info?

Sean, as a word of advice, I would not try to outsource this assignment this early into your new job based on it not neatly fitting into your job description.

I would also argue it could easily apply to:

We just hired a new marketing guy and we are going to pay him $80k annually.

Our first project for him and he asks for $15k to outsource to a PR firm.

    Hmmm....yeah, don’t do that.
