I'm the opposite. I get my itch scratched by watching openings on YouTube, and buy singles I want from eBay
The only thing I can ever find is donruss cellos. I suppose I’ll just have to get my fix in there but that’s such a slow burn. If I start buying online I’ll go broke. I’m like a heroin addict when it comes to collecting
I watch openings on YouTube as well and it’s cool but if I’m gonna jump back in it’s gonna be opening packs. It’s just what I enjoy
Sent about 32 cards to psa today hoping for some luck. Also popped my pristine cherry tonight and won this
Yeah seems like ever since Zion started actually playing and playing well, it's been sold out everywhere. Prizm was pretty much always hard to get but early in the season you could at least get hoops and donruss relatively easily while Zion was injured. Now the hype is at 1000%
The hobby market is absolutely insane right now. I've never seen anything like it. Prizm base rookies are going for absolutely insane prices. Doncic base Prizm PSA 10s are going for $250-300. Giannis base Prizm PSA 10s are going for over $1k. Zion base Prizm PSA 10s are going for $400+. That's why the local Wal Marts and Targets never have any product. If you can open a $20 box and pull a $100 Zion, that's quite the payoff. Open 10 blasters and pull 2 Zions and a Ja? That's huge. I've seen some speculate that the recent boom is partly due to Gary Vaynerchuk telling people that cards are a great investment and they should be buying up the stars (LeBron, Luka, Giannis, Zion, etc.)
Did a quick search on this Gary dude and he isn't saying anything that wasn't already being done imo. I guess more people now see it as viable retirement option which is stupid.
I think the issue is that he's bringing in a group of people who have no knowledge of cards. Then they go on ebay, buy overpriced buy it now items, and inflate the value of that card. I'm not mad about it because I have a lot of these cards, but it feels like a bubble of sorts that won't be able to sustain.
Same here. But it isn't going to happen. People are hitting up vendors and finding out when deliveries are made and buying everything up. It's nuts but a $20 blaster can be sold for $60 on ebay right now so people are acting a fool.
Do you have any idea who the vendors even are? I'm not even sure how to find out who they are for me locally.
Walmart's are still out in north alabama too. there's a card shop one town over from me, but it's run by a drunken dip shit that barely ever opens it up and pretty much just uses it for a tax write off.
ive been trying to find out who provides them to the Walmart’s just so I can try and find out the best days to check. r/basketballcards has topics come up about restocks but it never seems like a consistent day/time.
There’s only one sports card shop locally that I’m aware of. Went by last week and the cost/pack and box was just wild. Any of you big time baseball? It so, is it worth buying any retail like basketball is?
. i used to be a huge baseball guy in the mid 80's early 90's, but now i'd probably struggle to name 10 guys that play right now. I know Acuna and Judge, but couldn't tell you what position either of them play.
Yea I don't follow the sport nearly as much as I did when I was younger. It just seems like most of the fun runs of cards have dwindled and now there's like 3 brands. Wouldn't mind trying to dip my toe back into the baseball world, just not sure if it's worth it or not(Love me some Topps Finest and Bowman Chrome)
Not usually, because there is no guarantee of a 'hit' in most baseball stuff. Sure, you might get a box topper "relic medallion" but they aren't worth anything. The big draw in Topps is the parallels - gold, rainbow foil and rarer ones like black, light blue, pink, camo. People have had a lot of success pulling the rare parallels from retail stuff. In Heritage, the big draw is the action variations, team color swaps and nickname variations. Autos can also be pulled too but they're rare.
No. Topps retail is trash. I mean, ill still buy it because im an addict, but its bad. Exception being Bowman megaboxes and some Topps Chrome offerings.

I have the afternoon free today so I may cruise around to some walmarts and the one actual card shop in town to see what's out there.
I know, but at least at the card shop I can actually see packs/boxes and not empty shelves like at walmart lol
I want to say a few weeks ago I'd stopped in very quickly, and they had a couple basketball hobby pack options for like $11-25. I couldn't bring myself to do it then, but after hunting for a few weeks I may buy one just to see
I found some hoops in Wal mart last week and bought one pack. Got a Zion rookie, a coby white insert prizm and a color prizm Colin Sexton (which goes quickly into the pc). Went back inside and spent $60 bucks on packs and got nothing. If that happens similar when I rip a hobby pack I’m fucked
Buy from Blowout cards, they have a great promo running right now, Certain Items qualify you for a "Spot" in a March Madness tourney. You'll need to be on the forum but its pretty cool. Every box/certain pack you buy gets you a spot, they group 64 people together and random.org the spots and thats your tourney team , if you win you get a Optic box and top 4 teams in each grouping gets put into a jackpot round worth of 8k of basketball cases/boxes and gift certificates. Last year they gave out over 30k of stuff, pretty neat. You can also join group breaks if that interests you (gambling/lower $) I bought 5 boxes of stuff last week and in my grouping I got the #2 East Seed #8 Midwest #10 West #13 West #15 West.
Don’t tell me this. I snagged two blasters of 2020 Topps heritage. Snagged a Javy Baez jersey card. :notbad:
Topps Finest vs Topps Chrome Looking into buying a box of 2018-19 off blowout at some point, but not sure which one I should go with.
Check your local Targets today, fellas. Thursday seems to be stocking day for mine. Had about 6 optic basketball blasters. Picked up 3. Should have probably got all of them, but a couple look like they were dropped
You can sometimes talk beat up boxes down. Also, it’s a VERY smart move to buy all you can. Rip a few and sell a few
If you ever come across any I’d be glad to PP you monies to pick me up a box or two I also would not be the least bit offended if you bought every box for yourself and gloated itt over your pulls. that being said, maybe a group chat with whoever wants in would be a way for us to hunt together? Just a thought
