I’m heading over to campus for a doubleheader. Lax vs Denver and then a basketball game. Hopefully it’s a fun day
Hearing the II guys talk about Brey being done is surreal. Also, realizing he has been the coach since I was 15 is insane. Doesn't seem like that long ago McCleod was trotting our guys with one leg and Doherty was using us as a stepping stone to a high school job. I have no clue who I would want aside from the obvious. Beilein.
This is great year because a lot of mid majors are crushing it. Wonder I'd Dutcher from SD St would want an ACC gig?
He's been there and good for a while hasn't he? Seems like they flirt with running the table in conference every year.
SDSU. Took me a second to figure out you weren’t talking about taking someone from South Dakota state he’s from Michigan, went to school in Minnesota. He’s been there for a while though so who knows. But we’d obviously be able to pay him significantly more I’d imagine. he’s an interesting option though. His teams the past couple years were so frustrating to watch. And truly inept on offense. I’d like to see him do it one more year, if I had it my way.
Notre dame is literally the perfect job for beilein(catholic school, high academics, in the Midwest, fan base that will understand and embrace his recruiting style).
Hey guys, just dropping by for a quick question. Johnny Mooney is my first cousin’s son. I know he played during a lean time for you guys, but I was just wondering where you guys who follow your hoops program would rank him in ND history individually?
What a wild play that you don’t see too often. defense had a shift on so 3rd baseman was playing near short. Runner got a huge lead and beats the pitch home.
I just had visions of Tom Loy and Tony Riccio posting Coronavirus tweets and the 4HL questioning Will Shipley's character for canceling his trip. That would be the low point of ND message boarding.
Fuck that. I’m sick of waiting until week 4 for the offense to finally gel so go test all 85 + the staff and get extra reps in.
we'll see about spring practice, but you have to imagine the spring game is effectively canceled. and as others pointed out, that big march 20-22 recruiting weekend is off the table, which is a major bummer
No sports will be cancelled, including practices for in season sports Edit: unless the conference or NCAA says so
In the Mike Brey era - which is essentially the 2000s - I would have first team big men of Luke Harangody and Troy Murphy and a second team of Bonzie Colson and probably a toss-up between Zach Auguste / Jack Cooley / John Mooney. That's not bad Company probably being the 4th-6th best big man at a school over a ~20 year period. His personal highs weren't as consistently high as Luke's sheer domiancne when it looked like he can go for 30 points at any given night, and his team highs certainly will be nowhere near Bonzie being on two elite 8 teams and pulling off tons of memorable wins, but my god was he consistent. You can essentially bank him for 15 points and 12 rebounds a night and his stat line rarely flutters too much from that. In his last 12 games, he's hit double digit points 11 times and rebounds 11 times. Only minor issue with his career I'd have is his 3-pt accuracy significantly dropped over his career from 42% as a sophomore to 37% as a junior to 30% this year. I'd say that's mostly a result of additional usage and just needing to take more bad shots, but he was billed as a dead-eye 3-pt shooter out of high school, showed it sophomore year, then it fell off. If he had shot high 30s from 3 this year, he could have pushed for national player of the year IMO. Either way, great career, among the greats and significantly outperformed expectations - don't think I would have even dreamed first team All ACC when he was a freshman.
Would definitely not have Harangody first team, he put up numbers but thought he bogged the offense quite a bit
Looks like students have to be approved to come back on campus after spring break, but that may just apply to students specifically living in residence halls (not sure how many of the football players move off campus earlier than the average ND student). Thoros of Beer is there an expectation that athletes will come back to campus and be part of that approved group?
He was an enigma of a player, team seemed better at times without him. His defense was questionable but when he was healthy he just lit up the Big East
if you want an actual authority but really, what thoros said was right. they're continuing on with the sports (until further notice). i personally anticipate a lot more being canceled as this moves forward. the fact that someone with some stature in the government *finally* came out and publically said we shouldn't be having events with crowds hopefully starts a domino factor moving forward
The team improving quite a bit the next year with almost the same group of guys was not a great look either
Devonta Smith (CB from Ohio) is coming next week for a visit and he just spoke to Mickens so sounds like some visits are definitely still going to happen btw, he'd be a very important pick up for ND
A bit easier for him with a semi short drive. I imagine plane travel is why will get canceled Mickens apparently had a really good relationship with him at Cinci already, so we have that going for us. He’d definitely be a big pickup at corner
In non corona virus news. Tyler Buchner transfered from Bishops to Helix which is a San Diego/Regional power and will play MUCH BETTER competition.
