Watching the Kenin quarterfinals match from Lyon. She's damn near unbeatable when she gets locked in a groove. Until she gets too excited about being close to winning.
Dodin was really impressive as well. She has quite the serve just a matter on if she can get to balls. Then again the way Kenin was smashing shit on both sides of the court I'm not sure there are many that could.
Yeah, it helps that sometimes it looks like kenin is trying to guess where first serves are going and gets it wrong or just doesn't want to make the effort to get to them.
Kerber withdraws from Indian Wells and Miami, leg still not healthy. After IW (had Finals points to defend), she’ll be outside the top-40.
Yeah she did not adjust her positioning all match. First serve, second serve didn’t matter which I found a bit odd. Also side note I took Kasatkina on the first half of a parlay with Kenin. That blown 5-2 lead and then subsequent 5-2 TB lead that she gave up had me shitting a little.
Reminds me I was thinking today about venues that can handle both men and women at the same time. It’s probably more than I know but what are they? Obviously majors and where else?
Really is a shame. Probably the most enjoyable two weeks on the calendar just from a fan perspective. Tennis on all day, great venue, not as hectic a schedule since its best of 3, etc.
I think I'm watching a Venus Williams match. But it's 2020. This has to be a rerun... Damnit Corona virus.
If you’re jonesing for some tennis, TC replaying the Andreescu-Kerber IW final from last year at 7PM. Was a fun as hell match.
-Easter Bowl (USTA National Championships) has been cancelled. Was scheduled to be played at Indian Wells. -Reports out there that the Miami Open could announce a cancellation of the 2020 tournament as early as today. -There are rumors out there that the ATP and WTA are meeting today and considering a 6-8 week long suspension of the tours.
Official: For the men, that's: -IW -Miami -Houston -Morocco -Monte Carlo -Barcelona -Budapest Assuming the same window for the women, that's: -IW -Miami -Charleston -Bogota -A week of Fed Cup -Stuttgart -Istanbul
Really curious to see are they going to subtract those points or let them stay another year. Would be massive for Shapo/FAA not to lose those Miami points
French Open announces they've moved the tournament to Sept 20th-Oct. 4th. That's a week after the US Open and during Laver Cup. So, yeah.
Wimbledon won't be able to be held on the grounds, would need to be all indoors. I legit don't think they have a more than a month in either direction for latitude there with the weather. Edit: Obviously if it needed to move. Was in reference to bro post.
That was such a fun couple weeks. And the rematch in Miami and the drama queen stuff, stoked by Kyrgios of all people on Twitter. I really do miss tennis so much these days. The one sport where you can find a match to watch every day of the year basically.
Totally forgot about Kyrgios. One of the most impressive years I can remember. Literally 152nd to 4th. Winning 3 straight tournaments she finished, Indian Wells, Toronto, US Open. I cant wait to see her healthy for a clay court season. I can't wait for the next couple years of Bibi & Kenin. And you are so right, I miss Tennis more than anything right now. Miss the Sunshine double and then right into the clay.
Wimby canceled. What a fucking crazy time. Thats probably my most looked forward to sporting event each year. It will be missed.
Very good read here. One excerpt: Q: The current hypothesis is to have a clay swing in mid-September. Could Rome be re-converted as an indoor event? A: We are working on the possibility of a four-weeks clay swing after the US Open. The best-case scenario would be to have the North American swing during the summer, then the clay, then Asia, and then the ATP Finals. If that were to happen, it would mean that we saved 80% of the season after cancelling the grass tournaments. With seven Masters 1000 and three Slams taking place, there wouldn’t be much room for complaints. If the US Open gets cancelled, the complexity of the situation would grow exponentially, because we should consider playing in November and December too, but at the moment we are focusing on a re-start after the Wimbledon slot.
