Contrary to popular belief, American farmers did not lobby for daylight saving to have more time to work in the fields; in fact, the agriculture industry was deeply opposed to the time switch when it was first implemented on March 31, 1918, as a wartime measure. The sun, not the clock, dictated farmers’ schedules, so daylight saving was very disruptive. Farmers had to wait an extra hour for dew to evaporate to harvest hay, hired hands worked less since they still left at the same time for dinner and cows weren’t ready to be milked an hour earlier to meet shipping schedules. Agrarian interests led the fight for the 1919 repeal of national daylight saving time, which passed after Congress voted to override President Woodrow Wilson’s veto. Rather than rural interests, it has been urban entities such as retail outlets and recreational businesses that have championed daylight saving over the decades. - history.com
Yeah if it’s year round DST this argument has little merit. The danger is the changing, not the amount of light.
if i am drunk on a sunday at 8:00 and grilling out and the sun is still out, the amount of sunday scaries are much lower than if i was drunk at 8:00 and grilling under the porchlight
Fuck Standard Time forever and ever. Daylight Saving Time is life. Give me that sweet, sweet after-work sunlight for a run, bike ride, and dinner grilling. *edited because I don’t understand clocks
keep it either standard or dst, the change is what people hate, that and "standard time" being only 4 months out of the year while savings time is 8 months out of the year.
Sunset times in Northern Michigan creeping toward 10 pm is awesome. I’ll be in Scotland around the solstice — stoked about the 11 pm twilight.
I made the conscious decision to go to bed at 11pm because I knew 8am would come early.* I got plenty of sleep and can't wait for sunlight at 7pm. *and I was hammered drunk.
Agreed. Though waking up while it's pitch black will take some getting used to, it's 100% worth it for some more sunshine in the evening.
Toughen the fuck up. You sound like my mom who starts psyching herself out about time changes weeks in advance then complains about being tired for weeks after. Have a little mental strength.
You should try to go to bed a little earlier. You can always watch Real Housewives on DVR the next day.
It literally doesn't work that way, read up any articles on it. If "just go to bed early bro" solves brain chemistry and sleep patterns that easily, jet lag wouldn't be a thing.
Getting ajusted to the new time will be challeging, but I think I should be able to manage. fingers crossed
With putting the clocks ahead one hour tonight. Would you prefer to stay in Daylight Savings Time all year or Standard Time? This is would it would look like in Michigan.
It’s really tough to get going in the am when it’s cold and dark af. So I like DST from that standpoint
None of this will matter until congress passes a law fwiw. Georgia, Florida, and a bunch of other states have all passed laws in their state legislature.
