Roy Moore would have beaten Jones in a general election. I feel confident that Tubs would win comfortably. Sessions would beat Jones handily.
Wait... Are you implying there's enough of a difference between a special election and general that Jones got elected?
He’s saying that people that didn’t like Moore stayed home during the special election and that those people will show up during a presidential election and just check the (R) box for senate even if they don’t like him.
even as someone that's more bullish on jones' percentages than most, he's right that there's a massive difference down ticket voting makes it essentially impossible for jones to win in a presidential year
Doug Jones got 674k votes in 2017 and won by 22k votes. Trump got 1.3mm in 2016. Hillary got like 720k. Moore wins running away if the election is a general in November. He wins if it’s a general election in 2018. Ivey our governor got over 1mm votes her “very popular” challenger got like 690k votes. Obama in 08 got 815k and less than 800k in 12. The ceiling for a Democrat in Alabama is 800k.
Meh, call me an optimist. I think people saw Moore and said "ew", and that was the difference. Some even turned out because of it. Hope I'm right and you're wrong...
That made the difference in the special. Any republican easily makes up 22k additional votes in a general election. Lots of straight ticket republican voters don’t vote in special.
Z is right, Jones won by a thin margin in a low turnout election with a huge national media spotlight and tons of bad press on his opponent. Credit to him for winning, but I hope he rented a place in DC and didn't buy.
I won’t forget Doug winning as long as I live, wife and I were on the honeymoon at a pretty secluded place so the rest of the guests learned we were from Bama. When Doug won it was on the front page of the paper they put out at breakfast and we had couples from Sweden, England, and France congratulate us.
Auburn not only beat Bama every time we played in Tuscaloosa going into 2002, but we had shut them out in every game. Tre Smith ran all over them in 2002 and we won 17-7. Apparently in an interview afterward, Tubs said something like “Well it took a hundred years, but at least they finally scored a few points.” Building Sessions’ oppo research file seems like fun.
God help me if I didn't see Roy Moore and Tommy Tuberville signs today in people's yards driving back into Alabama.
The former was in a weird green space between a neighborhood and a large road. Hard to know who did it. Best to burn the whole neighborhood.
I feel like Sessions being Trump's ragdoll is going to be his undoing. Pretty funny since he was one of the first prominent politicians to endorse Trump.
Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump and gave Trump a lot of credibility in the South, he should be a cautionary tale for all these sycophants lining up to kiss Trump’s ass.
Tommy Tuberville declines WVTM 13's second offer to debate, Jeff Sessions responds Read statements from the campaigns of Alabama's Republican Senate candidates, Tommy Tuberville and Jeff Sessions, about their debate decisions ahead of the March 31 runoff. JEFF SESSIONS “Tommy Tuberville is afraid to debate because he’s scared of being found out and exposed. But let me say this — no one will prevail in this Senate race without being vetted. Especially Florida Man Tommy Tuberville. In his 65 years, he has never advocated for any conservative political principle or made any contribution to a conservative candidate. “Tommy Tuberville does not know Alabama. He simply does not understand the big issues that our state and nation face. Indeed, his own words reveal his support for amnesty and his direct opposition to President Trump’s use of tariffs to crack down on China. He has good reason to run scared from a debate with me. “I will debate him anywhere in Alabama. If it would make him more comfortable, I will debate him in his home state of Florida." TOMMY TUBERVILLE " Until President Trump fired him, career politician Jeff Sessions held public office for almost 40 years, so he should not have to introduce himself to the voters of this state. "Likewise, the fact that he led the Republican primary field shows that Alabamians already know Coach Tuberville quite well following his long career at Auburn, and they like his stands on the issues of the day. "Most importantly, voters understand which candidate supports President Trump and which candidate cut and ran when Democrats launched the bogus Russia witch hunt. "Jeff Sessions has refused to debate every opponent he has faced since 2002, but now that he is running behind and scared of losing his place in the swamp, he has had a sudden change of heart. It is too late, too late. "With only three weeks left in the runoff, Coach will continue taking his message directly to voters in every corner of the state." https://www.wvtm13.com/article/tomm...fer-to-debate-jeff-sessions-responds/31353304
Going to be tons of politicians in red states doing their best Trump impersonation. It's like a maga version of Who's More Grizzled
Jeff Sessions was the first senator to kiss the ring Jeff Sessions unleashed Stephen Miller on the world All this and Trump turns on him Jeff Sessions can go to hell
We’ve had 3 AGs under Trump and Jeff Sessions was the best one. That’s just how fucked up the world we’re living in now is.
I despise that idiot. Sessions better get Shelby out on the airwaves every day, but not sure it’ll matter with that. Too many stupid people. Every day I become more and more convinced that maybe basic literacy and world event understanding should be required to vote. Only about 10% of Alabama’s current voters would be able to cast a ballot.
I tend to agree based on polling. It’s almost amazing. Guy has won 5 of 5 elections in Alabama without hardly breaking a sweat, but he gets in Trump’s crosshairs and he’s done. The party is a cult.
There's an ad in south Alabama that accuses the opposition of being "just like a never Trumper" for not voting in the 2016 primary. Then goes on to say he sounds more lIke a Democrat. Unbelievable how stupid this state is.
What kind of fucking world are we living in? Donald Trump is our president and he is endorsing Tommy Tuberville for Senator. What happened?
