I believe Pierre was talking about something like this on the radio this morn. Might be the best option.
How does that affect the salary cap? I know the CBA has a tool for both parties to arbitrarily set the cap regardless of the revenues. If HRR drops the cap to $70M, it won’t work with all the salaries already committed. Will players take a pay cut?
From Fridge’s 31 Thoughts If this gets really bad, will the NHL and NHLPA negotiate next season’s salary cap the way they did out of the last lockout? Since 2012–13 was only a 48-game season, 2013–14 was set at $64.3 million, no matter what. (That was the number in the most recent 82-game year, 2011–12.) There are so many variables, so many uncontrollables. The league held a conference call with the clubs on Tuesday, and the concern is real.
One of my bigger whiffs was being certain Dmitirj Jaskin was going to be a solid top 6 winger for the blues. Seeing him dominate the KHL, I am vindicated and I wont hear anything otherwise.
THe most annoying part is the The Score app is sending me notifications one by one every game is cancelled.
Maybe a hot take but I’d rather they fully cancel this season than finish it up later and have that fuck up next season too.
For those who didn’t watch, the outline of what some players are going to propose to the PA is: August/September - Finish the season October - Draft/FA November - Camp/Season begins These players are willing to play 82 games in a condensed schedule in 2021 to get everything back on track in 22. They want to finish this season to maximize HRR though, and they would rather wait until the end of Summer to avoid another shutdown.
Friedman has said that US owners would love to have hockey get to a place where it starts later (like the NBA) to avoid football as much as possible. Maybe this is the first step?
It would be covered under the health care system. The thinking is this player potentially caught it from a Brooklyn Nets player. Sens played the LA Kings the night after the Nets played the Lakers and used the same room.
On 31 Thoughts, Friedman says that escrow could jump from 14% to 30-35% but the league might be amenable to spreading it over multiple seasons.
On Puck Soup, Sean mentioned that it’s only been three weeks since the David Ayers story. I mean holy shit. It may as well of been three years ago.
