Well my gym officially closed for the next two weeks and I’m fairly certain they will probably reevaluate and be closed for at least a month. I’m bummed because I was making solid progress on my 5x5 that I started a couple months ago. Should I just say fuck it and go full cardio and cut until this blows over? (still beneficial to me being a FF) or should I do some lunges and dumbbell squats to salvage things. Any other ideas? Pardon the length.
DB/KB lunges are great strength/explosion builders, they just suck and not looking forward to doing them again.
We are the same. Was really getting in a groove with 5x5. Did my first home workout today: push ups Chin ups Goblet squats Split squats Standing rotations with bands Med ball slams Db ohp Db curls Vert jumps Broad jumps definitely had to sacrifice weight for reps since I’m limited on my dumbbell setup currently. Anyone have any other ideas for home workout with limited equipment?
Z press/Arnold press flies bent over lat raises, plenty of other lat/delt variations arm raises snatches 1-legged Romanians Bench or furniture dips with weights Can do pistols if you have the mobility, I do not kickbacks/skull crushers if you only have small weights, some of the CrossFit stuff is good to get a decent workout in. Devil's presses are good/suck, tried my first deck squat the other day and those were quite awful too. Thrusters
Absolutely continue to do some type of resistance training as you can. Some solid substitute exercises you can do to maintain as much muscle mass as possible during this time
If I were you I'd go for comp bells. They're better suited for pressing and won't grind your forearms down.
I'm really in a groove now. The gym is usually empty. I'm hitting goals. Obv a global pandemic is going to fuck that up for me.
I have pretty much no room left but figure I can somehow get a barbell in my basement gym. Can at least deadlift/snatch pulls/ Z presses/rows with the space I have. Maybe do OHP and cleans outside.
Fedorenkos are legit. They fit in your hand better to make pressing easier. Also if you chalk them right they won't burn up your hands like the cast iron ones. He also made training ones which have a groove to be more flush with your arms. When I build my next home gym I'm def investing in them. I can press the 36 kg ones at my gym but they're the RKG ones which can slide depending on grip.
So yeah I'm waiting for my Gym to close. Seems like everyone will shut down for 2 weeks. Trying to talk myself into buying a Mutt Bar and Door jam pull-up bar.
I hit the HS track the other day, figure that will be my new gym plus exercises everyone mentioned above with a pair of DBs and a KB.
Did you test out the mutt bar. Im intrigued. I have a curl bar. But I this seems easier to keep around. And I could always add bands to it.
Welp, there goes the track. Bay area counties officially going to shelter in place measures starting tonight at midnight till April 7th. Guess its crossfit style home workouts from here on out, never cared about my gfs peloton but now I'm glad we have it.
Just ordered Spud Inc pulley and dip belt. https://www.spud-inc-straps.com/econo-triceps-and-lat-pulley.html
Got my prison style gym set up in the basement. Pulls ups from the rafters, a punching bag, extension cord slung over boards in the ceiling to act as TRX bands...
Titan Fitness is having a sale. They have A 100# eco bumper plate. I think I'm grabbing it and a 34kg kb
So yeah. Spud Inc Pulley Spud Inc Dip belt Titan 34kg KB Titan Plyo box Mutt Bar 55# the 66 sold out but it's cheaper and cost less to ship so I saved a lot more. Also appears easy to add bands and possibly chains to.
Ironmaster is my favorite. Powerblocks are fast, but I’ve always thought a little awkward. Check Facebook marketplace and craigslist for ironmasters first.
ordered Powerblocks on Saturday, will probably take forever to get shipped. This is the most used I've gotten out of my band set since I've had them. Definitely better than nothing though
Depends. Small gyms that may have less than 10 people in at a time are probably fine to keep running. Big globo type gyms staying open are pretty bad.
So I live in a condo, no basement, only a small porch. Not going to my condo's gym because it's already gross. -Adjustable kettle bell -TRX or resistance bands -- suggestions? I don't really have anything to hang the TRX bands from, so worried about not being able to use them -Rubber flooring for the outside, like a mat - anybody got any experience with this?
After 30 min of research over coffee, I settled on a 202 lb set from BodyElastics: https://bodylastics.com/product/19-pcs-set-202-lbs/ Have them as low as 30 lbs and up to 500 lbs of resistance.
Not sure why they can't limit traffic and have people schedule their gym time. NY has limits of 50 people. So why not cut that in half and give them 1 hour.
I’d grab some from EliteFTS. Throw them over your back and do push-ups. Stand on them and do rows or curls. Front squats with them. then when gyms open up throw them on your bench, squat, or deadlift bar and be #Westside4life
Looks so functional. Economically....not so much. hensleya https://store.kabukistrength.net/products/the-trap-bar
TRX is just as useful on the go. Can literally use them in a hotel, park, etc. Can't hate on them they have ample uses. How much flooring. Cheapest tractor supply 4x3 5/8 mats.
Bought an adjustable kettle bell (8 - 40 lbs) and those resistance bands. Just going to use an old yoga mat for flooring, see how long that lasts. Not exactly a home gym, but 10x10 patio gym for a 900 sq ft condo engaged
Quarantine day 3: just spent an irresponsible amount of money and one of my extra rooms in the basement will be a home gym beginning next week
I know. $1000 gone. Luckily the old lady doesn't know (put it on my CC she doesn't have access to) Don't know where I'm going to put the platform yet hahahah
I have extremely limited space. All I got was a very simple adjustable power rack with a pull up bar, Olympic weight bar, bumper plates, kettle bell, and adjustable bench. Currently measuring to see if I can squeeze a small treadmill or spin bike in there. Also the ceiling is to low for standing over head lifts so I hope my neighbors don’t mind me doing thrusters in my back yard.
