Sorry man, that is terrible. My vet came to our house, took him, and cremated him for us. Is that not an option? If not, I would try to find that. I felt like gus was more comfortable in a familiar place and I personally was in no shape to be in public. One thing that really helped me after was the creation of an amazon photos/google drive folder with every photo and video that me and my wife had between us. It reminds us of the good times and amazon still does a popup of various days in history that I still love, even a year later.
my gf knows this breeder, and she wanted to get rid of this lil guy before everyone was sick. got him for a really good price anyways, my lil guy dakota
Anyone ever known any dog owners who wipe their dog's ass after they shit? Saw it Saturday and have never seen it before.
We’ve had to wipe ours before when they get shit stuck in their fur. But I would assume only psychos do it every time they go to the bathroom.
I think you might be surprised by what would come off a dog's "clean" ass if you wiped it. That said, I don't unless something is stuck
I think the better option is to just groom your dog (whether by owner or professional groomer) so that there isn't a bunch of hair immediately surrounding the anus. For the dog's well being and your own.
I own bulldogs they are short hair so don’t have lots of hair. Like wes tegg said it has something to do with their tails. I do it every few days at home because it is a little embarrassing. Just something that comes with the breed like having to clean their wrinkles. Trust me they hate it as much as I do.
We have a Bulldog puppy that has needed it. Little bit of TMI here but.... He was getting turd stains on furniture, his bedding, etc. We quickly learned he was not finishing his poops all the way, leaving a dingleberry hanging off his tail, and just quite a bit of mess from puppy dumps. So wiping him after he got done with a #2 was the easy solution. Its weird and we would rather not do it, but he's our little guy and we dont want him with a nasty behind. His poops have gotten better as he has gotten older, but still needs it from time-to-time. We never do it if we take him out to a restaurant or whatnot. Its really just about keeping him clean as much as possible, and our/his furniture. Vet has told us we need to use antiseptic wipes on a regular basis around his corkscrew tail, just because its a place where gunk can buildup that could cause issues down the road (partly bc thats an area where poop can accumulate).
Some fucking asshole broke a bunch of beer bottles on this really gorgeous trail we hiked today, and my collie sliced her paw pretty deep. Me and my dad took turns carrying her for a mile and a half covered in mud. Got her cleaned up and bandaged but still need to take her to the vet tmrw. Hope those pieces of human shit catch themselves a nice case of the covid.
Dog owners around here are fucking sociopaths. There is dog shit everywhere around our apartment complex, despite the fact that the city puts out poo bag dispensors all over the place.
People are just fucking lazy. We have the same set up here but there's constantly shit around the complex and it seems like in the little dog park we have no one even bothers.
Dog started vomiting last night and currently at the vet. X-rays negative for blockage in the intestine but they want to get her on some meds and then maybe ultrasound tomorrow to check on some sort of possible gas bubble. Fingers crossed she’s all good after today.
"Home improvement" these days is just trying foil this dog from doing what she wants to do. I've had to: Put fencing around around the vegetable garden to keep her from digging. Put fencing around the fig tree because she was eating the limbs. Replace the mulch in the flower beds in the back yard with pine straw because she was eating the mulch. Put down a bunch of old brick I had along a 60 foot fence line to keep her from digging next to the fence. But I love her so much.
Dog is feeling way better and got the all clear from the vet after a second round of x-rays. Pretty sure I smelled what became of that gas bubble they saw yesterday while we were watching tv last night...
Sadly I just found out that Groot’s dad just passed away. Developed some lumps the breeders waited a day and took him to the vet. They put him under anesthesia and sadly he passed away while under. Only five years old. Kinda scares me for Groot. Here he is with baby Groot.
For those with pet insurance, who are you using? I got a plan discounted by my old job through Nationwide but it still ran $71/month. It reimburses 90% of all vet and med costs but I ran the numbers and I would've just about broken even just paying on my own and that included puppy shots, neutering, surgery to remove a growth, and an exam and meds to get his skin allergies under control in the past year. This seemed like overkill at the time but the fiancee talked me into just going with it. Now it especially seems like too much (and costs more than health insurance for myself). I'm really just looking for something that will cover major illnesses, cancer, accidents, etc. Bivvy looks pretty good.
Is it wrong to mostly call your dog "dumbass" or "dickhead"? Asking for a friend who is not me who gets weird looks at the dog park
I have Pets Best. Ours is $67 but thats with addons for the early years, so quote could be cheaper. It had the best coverage from the companies we looked at.
Thanks for all advice and positive thoughts in this thread. We took Lola to the coast today. She seemed to have a blast, and was especially interested in hearing the birds (she is blind). Despite that, leg seems to be getting worse, and her skin isn’t getting any better. Wife and I cried a lot of the way home just talking about all the joy she has brought us over the past decade. We think she is comfortable enough to make it to her 10th birthday on the 5th so we can throw her a party. Picture: Spoiler
My boy died on January 30th. I still miss him so much. The pain I am feeling now is nothing compared to the joy he brought to our family.
Maybe it’s gotten better but that stuff used to be a complete racket. Make sure whatever you go with covers catastrophic treatment; many of them exclude pretty much everything over the dollar amount that would make it worth it and are essentially just a non tax-advantaged HSA for vet visits.
Yep, and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. A few hundred out of pocket for a vet visit isn't a big deal, just trying to have a fallback for something catastrophic.
This won’t be much help because I don’t know which insurance we have, but it’s been a huge help for one of our dogs. Multiple surgeries and we are reimbursed 90 percent. Never had an issue.
Since the dog park is closed me and my son took both dogs to the woods by our house Sally was off the leash and she brought back a deer jaw bone, she was so proud, it was like she had a treasure
Our doggy daycare is shutting down for two weeks. We’re pretty worried about what to do with Tosu. Only option is to leave him caged while at work then take him for a big walk after. Believe the dog park is still open, but we shall see. Ohio is shut down.
