Ben Gibbard says he's doing a 30 minute+ live set every night on YouTube for the next two weeks. Pretty great for any of you death cab/postal service guys out there.
I am all for taking this thing seriously but there’s a breaking point of this social isolation thing. My gut is this guy is being hysterical for the sake of attention but if the answer is either millions of people die because of the virus or the US has to stay home for 18 months, millions are going to die of the virus because people are going to say fuck this, for a multitude of reasons some of which I can’t blame them for, after about a month of this. “I haven’t worked in a month and I have zero money and a child to feed” isn’t gonna give a fuck about the virus or the quarantine, and rightly so in my opinion.
Not sure if he's medically trained, but a NYT health reporter mentioned the chinese dancing in their quarantine centers to move around, that if it's a pneumonia illness you want to essentially 'break it up' some Maybe someone educated can chime in
Other than widespread testing, what is Korea doing that makes them confident to restart their pro b-ball league and such with the spread of this?
Whatever they're doing we're not doing it. What's going to be hilarious is when most of the world gets theirs under control and starts hitting the US with travel bans because our government still hasn't done shit about it.
NY ain't fucking around also may or may not have heard the state went by a vet to collect their ventilators
"This guy" isn't doing anything but summarizing a report based on modeling that is receiving a great deal of attention from our public health officials. He isn't sensationalizing. And you're damn sure right about the limits of our tolerance for social distancing, which is why it's imperative that the government fucking take care of people.
SK went all in with how they tackled this They're testing, they're quarantining, they have fantastic first world healthcare and treatment, they've been upfront and transparent, they tracked and traced cases, and they have actual leadership - they put markets aside, accepted the immediate inconvenience that the virus would cause, stuck to their word and acted for the collective good. Whether they'll be able to make it back as soon as they state, we'll see.
What will be even funnier/sad as fucking hell is even after our government fails to do shit, bunch people lose their jobs and die, Trump will easily win reelection .
The previous report in this saga was something like "governor brown asks for a whole bunch of shit, feds give her 10% of what she asks for"
it’s weird what happens when you nip shit in the bud it’s not like this thing severely debilitates or kills every person that contract it. the vast majority of people return to health. at some point, society can start returning to normal instead, here we are and the army corps of engineers is also sitting on their couch smoking a bowl posting on the internet because they don’t have any fucking orders
Sigh. Loyalty to big business in a state of crisis is literally inhuman. mobilize the full weight of the fucking military/government and get this shit under control.
No No first we must save the billionaires and their businesses, then after a few thousand die MAYBE we'll give the wage slaves some aid..... Are we sure America is a first world country anymore? I'm starting to have my doubts.
We do this every year. Its strongest supporters are ironically republicans, who only want to give us more of an annual handout. Dont you care call it socialism though.
yes let’s destroy “big business” so there are no more jobs on the other side of this thing. good plan guys maybe stick with reforms?
It's not bullshit. The OH governor and dept. of health is referencing this all the time during their press conferences. But, to your point. I agree people aren't going to socially distance for 18 months while a vaccine is approved. There is only so much people are willing the sacrifice. We've passed the point where waiting out for the vaccine is an option anyway.
Literally, of all the stuff we're not doing, we should at least be testing more. SK is in the spot that they are because they're testing everyone. They're following traces, and testing everyone a positive person has had contact with, even if it's weeks prior. SK has been able to identify mild and asymptomatic people, basically stopping super spreaders from walking around through means of quarantine. Countries such as us, Canada, etc are doing it all wrong by testing specific individuals/low numbers of individuals. What we have are asymptomatic people haphazardly prancing around and unknowingly infected more and more around them. That is what has made containment impossible and has lead to exponential spread and deaths.
