Florida governor just said 3 people died in an old folks home in Fort Lauderdale. Only 1 tested positive. Mark this as 2 deaths they’re hiding.
From someone I know on FB. Yesterday posting conspiracy theories, today complaining that he's been turned away from testing. Life comes at you fast.
Not sure about Baldwin county but Mobile area hospitals just started testing Thursday, Friday of last week and they still didn't have results back yesterday... story smells a little imo.
No. That referenced study came to the high number of ICU beds in the USA based on the high number of staffing resources. Other countries in that chart based their numbers on other factors. The ventilator inventory seems to be a potential limiting factor in the “correct” types of ICU beds here. In other words we have the staff to support 30 beds/100K people, but the number of ventilators could determine the number of practical ICU beds in this pandemic.
I just had to call Delta to cancel my Portugal flight since I was getting a fee when I tried canceling online. The woman I spoke to was easily the most helpful customer service rep I’ve ever spoken with. No idea how she could be so happy dealing with all the bullshit she must come across on a daily basis. She took care of everything but it was like a 1.5 hour wait.
Their in-flight and various other rules and policies are enough to have no sympathy, even before the question of stock buybacks. Would also like to see provisions with any federal relief that require addition of economy seats that are sized for obese people, and a requirement that seats are updated to recline no more than one inch.
That's good to hear. My girlfriend is dealing with her travel insurance for a Japan trip (in May) but they're giving her shit about COVID and epidemics not being a good enough reason to cancel, the fucking assholes. So dealing directly with the airline (also Delta) would be the easier way?
Swine flu wasn't China. I know this sort of doesn't matter, but everyone knows that eating these animals isn't responsible for zoonotic transmission of these viruses, right?
One of my dad’s friends is a lifelong smoker, about 65 years old, and can barely breathe. Apparently she’s still crushing cigs. Guess she’s accepted it at this point.
Saw some discussion on the Flu deaths argument and noticed a little tidbit that I hadn't before. But someone correct me if I am wrong. When people say 35 million get it and 34,000 die, those are CDC estimates. That isn't the same as saying 35 million people tested positive for flu, is it? I am just trying to wrap my head around any attempt to "estimate" this virus when it's all said and done and how approximately 0.0% of the "fake news" crowd will accept an estimate even after shouting "but 35 million get the flu!!1!"
the markets do play a role, just to be clear. animals of different types in pretty poor conditions really close together can definitely lead to jumping hosts. also, when the animals are slaughtered blood is splashing everywhere and everyone - in eyes, face, etc. another good way to mix things up. Eating it, though? no.
Just had a scary thought... If there's a baby boom starting in nine months because of all the shutdowns, then does that mean we're gonna get the Milleboomer Generation?
The study that generated the article was posted in the other thread a couple days ago. The researchers discovered that 50-75% of the infected persons were asymptomatic, and that factor was driving the outbreak. That doesn’t bode well for the USA.
I can’t address your specific question, but I can help regarding the data. The CDC uses the term “influenza associated” cases, medical visits, hospitalizations and deaths. So, in a LOT of the cases the victims caught influenza because they had other illnesses which made them susceptible. The CDC data doesn’t break that down into more detail.
Read his take as *most of the deaths are going to be olds on their last leg and we lose 50,000 useful Americans to car accidents*
