Honestly that doesn’t sound like a bad idea for critical industries. I feel bad for your dad and the other workers, but they are sacrificing (hot fuzz alert) for the greater good.
i get this is inside baseball and most weren't paying close attention at the time but this is why i act like a crazy person sometimes debt-ceiling was dumb and insane
Not cycling back through 50 pages anyone discuss the new study on sensitivity of the test based on different types of swabs? Nasopharyngeal swab is about 60% sensitive. Woof. Throat swab-- 32% and if anyone's actually doing this they're dumb. Missing a lot of mild cases, even when testing is done. Critical cases that initially test negative during mild/moderate phase are commonly getting re-tested later (at least abroad)
The Wall Street journal article on the corona virus testing that came out today and was posted in here earlier was very informative. seems like the CDC fucked the original response up due to gross incompetence and lying. We still haven’t gotten over that initial blunder but are starting to catch up.
Post the source of this data, please. RT-PCR is very sensitive so collection error must be the issue if that’s what the data is showing.
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762997 It's gotta be sampling error. Endobronchial is like 93%. NP swabs are problematic in general
This is some good info "For reasons that remain unclear, the CDC opted to design its own COVID-19 test with new primers despite the fact that the World Health Organization had already approved a test developed by German scientists." https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/...nce-in-its-attempt-to-make-a-coronavirus-test
Most of the n’s are small but pharyngeal swab data looks terrible. Do the Chinese suck as it or something? Kidding
This entire administration needs to be buried over this, never allowed to show their face in public type shit. But we don’t have a competent opposition party so no one will take blame.
Once you spend a year successfully telling the House to go pound sand with their subpoenas, and once you dance past impeachment, there are no consequences. They knew this, and they're war criminals.
Bernie: Billionaires need to pay their fair share republicans: We need to be more compassionate to those 607 billionaires. Also republicans: So a few thousands people, according to his percentage it’s more like 12 million, will die of the Coronavirus, big deal.
The government could have done this weeks ago. The product is used around the world. They are immediately ready to distribute 50,000 tests/day and can (and probably will) ramp up to produce another 100,000/day. https://www.deseret.com/utah/2020/3...d-19-test-supply-co-diagnostics-utah-pandemic
This doesn’t solve shit. These still require RNA extraction. http://codiagnostics.com/wp-content...019-Novel-Coronavirus-2019-nCoV-RUO-Rev_0.pdf
i'm not really into this thing where i don't know shit about the issue at hand and people who know even less than me are yelling about it being a hoax on facebook maybe it's just a way for people to vent their anger about being laid off or probably being laid off
Seems like one thing I could do to help right now is donate blood since I'm O Positive given there's a huge shortage. I'd imagine that they are obviously testing all blood for presence of the virus right, or is there no way that it would be in a regular red blood cell donation?
The data posted above showed that finding it in blood was rare but not zero. Unknown of that blood has infectious virions in it, though.
I'm thinking about how in the 1980s tons of people died from AIDS due to blood transfusions that contained HIV. My daughter has some kind of viral thing over a week ago that wasn't strep (red throat according to pediatrician) or flu when they tested, had a fever for a couple of days but was fine and a slight amount of congestion. I've felt more or less the same since then but wanted to wait to make sure before I donated blood again.
My aunt has COPD and is a nurse at a facility here in central Florida. Apparently one of the patients there tested positive. She resigned today.
Great ideas. Cliffs 1. Massive testing including at home, driveup, etc. 2. Using phone location technology to alert you to proximal +s 3. Serological assays to ID ppl who have had it and recovered
