Y'all have never been to a kids sporting event, apparently cause all you see is jeans and running shoes. Or basically just running shoes in general. Lots of running shoes.
I don’t have a real pair of running shoes because for the last couple years I’ve swam instead. But I have a pair of 2.0 boosts. I run in them now. They’re not bad for the job.
Seconded. Also hold off on your purchases because they’re going to get even crazier. I got 30% off adidas this morning and Cole Haan has 70% off select styles.
I haven’t seen any recent chat on uplift desks. I’ve wanted one for home use since I left my old job where I had something similar. Anyone have feedback on rocking, durability, etc after using one for a few months? Looking at the 4 leg model for the extra weight capacity since I’ll have camera equipment pilled on it.
He normally makes sure that it doesnt ship at a point where it'll get held up a FedEx on a Sunday or whatever so it doesn't run out of dry ice.
A friend owns and operates this. They supply the meat for a lot of nice restaurants from New Orleans to Nashville. https://homeplacepastures.com/
I have a gen 1, no qualms about recommending it, and no issues with stability, balance or weight to date with 3 different placements/moves in my ~2 years of ownership. Ask away if you have any questions. One insider tip is to (where possible) visit their storefront in Austin where they have "seconds" (samples, returns, scratch & dent) desktops for way less than brand new. I got a nicer wood (rubberwood) than my budget allowed because I bought this way. You also get a couple other small free accessories. I have a 60x30 light Rubberwood with black gen 1 (2 leg) system, power grommet, open grommet, CPU holder, under desk drawer and either the large or XL cord management kit. I added a highly rated standing mat from Amazon that wasn't charging name brand prices like uplift, and I've been set ever since. I can endure a little and pull off 7-8 hrs standing but it's less than pure comfort at the end of the day. 3-6 hrs seems ideal, but each day is different based on meetings and what I'm doing.
Thanks for the feedback. When i had a standing desk I would typically work standing and then sit at meetings. Most days that put me at a good 50/50 mix and I felt so much better than i do now. Working from home at this point is sitting on a metal folding chair using my grandad’s typewriter desk. At work, even though I left for a lot more money, my new job isn’t as keen on investing in stand up desks. They think it’s still a fad. I did invest in a Steelcase Leap 2 chair. They aren’t the most popular or coolest looking but I’ve found it fits me better than any other chair when I do have to sit through a meeting or two. I wish I could visit the Austin storefront. I really want the Walnut desktop because it will match the rest of my office furniture i inherited from my grandad. For now, I may have to do the walnut laminate and buy just the real wood when time and money allow. I was looking at the 4 leg setup for an extra level of rigidity. I tend to overbuy just so if my hobbies and interest change my setup doesn’t need to. So many places are posting fake reviews online these days I was getting skeptical at how positive most of the Uplift reviews are. People seem genuinely happy with the product, but I wanted to make sure they weren’t all Russian bots. Since I’m sold on having sitting and standing both as an option, I think you addressed my main questions around stability and durability. Especially since it has endured a couple of moves. That’s what killed my monitor for photo editing and I’ve taken almost 16 months to replace it.
I know you are c*****y about your leather and I'm likewise so about my desk and workstation. I got my remarkable deal because I lived in Austin and happened to live/work 5 mins away from their Burnet Rd store (HQ?), so I could be picky about their in store supply of desktops. The rubberwood was a no brainer as I didn't want the white eco/laminate or bamboo stuff, which is generally the entry-level material. The instore discount worked out to $189 off the price of rubberwood 60x30 brand new. I would have paid more/full price for the right desktop material, in hindsight, that's how happy I am. Uplift Desk has sales all the time with free accessories and such, so keep an eye for those. I paid for it myself, as I was transitioning to full time remote and wanted to invest in my home workspace. I could have requested reimbursement through work, but that probably would not have been approved, just a hunch, as I was transitioning to WFH on my own accord. My configuration is about $900-1000. Someone without a CPU tower would knock off ~$100 for not needing the CPU holder. The desk and accessory prices seem about the same from when I bought ~2 years ago. I have a makeshift monitor stand sitting on the desktop which frees up space. I took a floating shelf and added 4 legs to it. It holds 2x27" LED monitors. I assume you were working with a specialty (heavy?) color-accurate monitor. I don't know your weight needs, but you sound like you have a plan. The only thing I would change is to actually go bigger (e.g. from 60" wide to 72" or 80" wide) but that is not necessary. I keep a clean desk and 60" meets my needs. The wider desktops are understandably more $$, or I could even disassemble and use my own desktop was, I to find the right one. The only bad thing I have to say is that I thought the keyboard tray to be too wobbly and not worth the money, at least the one they showed me in the showroom. Keyboards take force and I didn't want any give in mine, so mine sits on the desktop. Speaking of durability, since its a standing desk, it can not only go up, from its default height, but it can also go way down to a minimum height of ~22". By being so small it is easier to maneuver through doorways etc. and has made it very easy for moves and switching rooms. I compared varidesk and uplift and both just seem to be considered heads above the competitors. I went to an office furniture place in Fort Worth (where I now live, after moving from Austin) and was surprised to see how low quality (especially in strength and rigidity) their standing desks were in comparison to mine, despite being the same price. Regarding reviews: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-standing-desk/ Spoiler Ignore the desk pads. I have a quote out to get a glass desk topper/blotter so I can show the beautiful wood while also protecting it. FWIW that first quote is ~$125. You cannot go wrong with well made walnut. My 97 y/o grandfather ran a furniture store and of course his house is full of just beautiful furniture. Understated MCM walnut that has only been moved once since purchase. It's amazing.
This is very helpful. Thank you. The place I have picked for my desk has exactly 62” of space to make sure the doors don’t crash into it so the 60” will work perfect for now. It’s worth considering though that if I change locations the existing frame will scale to a different top. The discounted options in store are just one more reason I wish I lived closer to Austin. Good call on the lowering the height too. I had planned on going with casters because the downstairs is open enough I could move to another side of the house by unplugging one cord. Specifically on monitors, the heavy duty option on uplift is just rated for my monitor. Having switched from a baseplate to monitors on arms, going back to base plates at work makes me feel cluttered. I’m a neat freak about my desk and wire management. To the point where people at work joke every day Friday that it looks like I quit and cleaned out my office because there’s not even a paper clip on the surface (just a keyboard and mouse).
So how long until we see an online site go full YOLO and drop prices to below Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals during this? If they have, please share! I know Nike is doing a 25% off, which is rare for them.
I posted Saturday, Adidas and Cole Haan. Being 100% serious when I say save your money. You might need it for something significantly more important. But seriously the sales are going to get insane. This is just the first week for most places.
Got this for my 8 month old and dog to play in. Folds up small enough to fit in a beach bag... Allegedly.
Anyone own a Cliq Chair? Thinking about firing in on a 2 or 4 pack to use at the neighbors houses and they look easily as hell to take down to the beach. https://www.cliqproducts.com
just bought some of these to hang over the back patio and such as nice weather rolls in... I know they're non-essential, but April 23 as ETA from amazon is really want to make outside as nice as possible during quarantine
What they consider nonessential vs. essential is odd. I ordered some leather paint and some valve oil and one was shipped next day, one delayed until 4/22.
i'm hoping they are building in some conservative dates and it will just be slotted in queue and perhaps go out on a truck earlier.
1 year - so buying in March/April seems to be the best time as you should be able to get 3 seasons of use before Winter and see how they're going to hold up.
