I think they should try and make an agreement. He resigns and he gets to go do whatever he wants wherever he wants. No more stir crazy
Really thought provoking stuff, as always. Here’s a question for you or anyone else ITT that thinks the government isn’t doing enough to combat the spread. What would your response be in the scenario below? If in the next week when we start getting data on the serological antibody testing, it confirms the models on asymptomatic rates and pushes the mortality rate in the .1-.3% range, then we’d know that: 1) Nothing we could have done would have stopped this from spreading, 2) Our efforts to close businesses and schools in order to shelter in place accelerated the spread of the disease among the groups most at-risk, 3) On the aggregate we did our hospitals a tremendous disservice, both by overwhelming them with a panicked public and bad resource forecasts, as well as preventing them from delivering routine care to non-ER patients; and, 4) Ruined millions of people’s lives over a potential health risk roughly in-line with ones they willfully accept every day. Do you just chalk that up to “better safe than sorry,” or the “cost of doing business?” Does your opinion on the correct policy moving forward change at all?
Sounds like Eddie Lampert's 5D strategy of pitting the company's divisions against each other in a competitive, cutthroat environment. If it worked for Sears, it'll certainly work for the United States.
You've crushed any imagined valid point you're trying to make with this statement, which in turn reveals that you're just being resistant to a fact you dislike. Hospitals aren't getting overwhelmed by armies of hypochondriacs who "think" they're sick due to "bad forecasts" or media hysteria. Actual hospitals are getting overwhelmed with actual people who are actually very sick and need actual medical care. Use your brain.
the actual story is even funnier than the news clips basically General Dynamics wanted to demonstrate that their massively expensive project absolutely ruled (which it did). they told Dukakis that the only safe way to ride around in the tank was with a helmet on. wearing hats makes politicians look stupid for some reason. but he had already committed to riding in the tank and especially as a Democrat, he couldn't afford to look soft. so General Dynamics gave him the big demo ride and apparently he was ready to puke at the end. he looked like an idiot with the helmet on and lost to George H.W. Bush.
you think we will have legit antibody testing in a week? We can’t even test sick people for corona virus. You actually typed all of this out?
“He was doing amazing, the city was doing a tremendous job handling it. He got into contact with the wrong type of people and they couldn’t save him. Aside from this Detroit is doing an amazing job.”
i wasn't even trying to throw shade there actually i think my favorite barack obama quote was him being like "oh no, you're not putting that thing on me" early in the 2008 primaries when someone tried to get him to wear a hat
Just got a late night email that we are not allowed to go to courts anymore until further notice. Circuit court was transitioning to zoom tomorrow anyway, district court refused but we've been told they are trying to work something out and we are not allowed to go anymore until further notice
I don’t know about where you live, but in my town the hospital has been inundated with patients seeking test and has been broadcasting daily messages on TV and the radio urging folks to call before coming. For sure, hospitals in the focus points of the largest outbreaks are going through hell and getting absolutely slammed. They’re also setting policy on forecasts regarding the mortality and severity risks that cause them to burn through critical supplies at battlefield-level rates, which is increasing their own stress to an unimaginable degree.
I really can’t believe this sacrifice for the nation talk, like truly can’t believe it. At least it’s not the same as the hawks sending 18 year olds overseas to do their crusading while they are exempt, now they can fight their own “war”. So batter up Glenn Beck and Dennis Prager. Time to serve your country and set that example of what we should be doing.
Can't believe we're still getting overreaction takes from somebody smart enough to be able to type in complete sentences
Both Mount Sinai and the U.K. have publicly developed antibody tests and expect them results to start coming in within a week.
Hey guys what would you think if this scenario happened Tomorrow morning all the COVID viruses get on a spaceship and blast off to live out the remainder of their lives on one of Saturn's moons Bet you'd feel dumb then huh
A lot of those children who are typically great vectors for virus transmission are staying at home with elderly relatives while mom and dad are at work. Or mom and dad lost their job and are with them all day.
Honest to goodness question: would Donald Trump give up a ventilator to save any member of his family? I think probably ivanka and potentially Baron because he’s his least disappointing male bloodline. But honestly, I wouldn’t bet money on trump sacrificing his life for anyone.
That doctors and hospitals are having to intubate so many patients in respiratory failure should be enough to tell you that everything you think you know about this disease is completely 100% fucking wrong. Hospitals are running out of vents. Let that sink in. THIS. ISN’T. NORMAL.
I'm not going to engage in this discussion anymore because I've seen Pokes go on and on for days now just folding his arms and insisting he's right. It wastes pages that nobody -- or at least me -- feels like reading and distracts from the good information in the thread. That being said, we have LITERALLY seen countries like Spain and Italy unwittingly become human experiments for what happens when you under-react. There's nothing magical about being American. Biology is biology. For fuck's sake how can anyone who has paid 5 seconds of attention to the global scale of this pandemic still say, "Gosh, I just don't think it's all that serious."
Why is 150k joint filing the max? Middle class goes much higher than that. Especially when you factor in cost of living.
Have you read any of the studies regarding asymptomatic patients, such as the one published in Science earlier this month or the new one out of Oxford? Not only does it explain this pretty well; it’s the only data out there I’ve seen that comes remotely close to tracking how broadly the cases were distributed once we began testing.
I mean to be honest these couple of weeks were March Madness so no one was doing any work anyway. Loss of productivity is minimal at best.
On the other hand, when I need tips to improve my canine fellatio approach or the anthropomorphizing of cats in leather S&M outfits, certainly Why?Pokes is a guy I listen to.
Am I an asshole for thinking the Talking Head hate is a bit much on here? Granted, I stay out of most of the threads that would show much political engagement, but he does not come across as a stupid or bad person, nor would I equate him with the shit-pit guys. Tell me what I’m missing on the TH vitriol.
He regularly says that Skyline Chilli is more virulent and destructive to human kind than the coronavirus.
No. Just shut the fuck up. They aren’t acting based on projections. They’re acting based on the patients showing up to their ERs literally incapable of breathing on their own. You’re 100% wrong. It happens to all of us at some times. Take the L and move on.
Hospitals go through crisis events all the time. Anything from power outages, hurricanes, seasonal spikes in certain illnesses, etc... It’s not “normal” but it’s not necessarily unprecedented, either. A novel virus that docs have never encountered and don’t know how to treat, that’s more fatal and severe that typical respiratory infections could certainly cause this, but it still wouldn’t make any of my points less true.
What you are missing is years worth of back and forth in political threads that you were probably wise to avoid.
bingo. this topic has been hashed out for YEARS in political threads before he abandoned the board for a while but then came back avoiding those threads. I could go on at length but MLKs conclusions about the white moderate largely sums it up.
