https://www.deadlinedetroit.com/articles/24769/detroit_police_captain_dies_of_covid-19 Looks like I was right about him being in his 50s. Man I still cant believe this shit. I'm hearing at least two other officers from homicide are in the hospital now too from it. Scary shit. Luckily I don't think I interacted with any of them recently, but I was supposed to have an exam Thursday with the officers from one of the infected teams. I'm waiting to hear the news soon about my friends and colleagues testing positive who did interact with them recently in exams or picking up or dropping off warrants.
Anyone trying to catch up. You can skip the last few pages and probably the next few. People arguing. ...and dbl hasn’t even joined the party yet.
If he had LinkedIn one of the causes he would proclaim to care about would be trying to make people forget he was born in Queens and not Manhattan. Also cares deeply about lashing out at people with the academic credentials and intellect he lacks
Can we definitively say they have? South Korea just had their single-largest day death toll and is rolling people back out to the ballparks.
marcus is a saint who texts his buddies checking in on our mental health and always provides a listening ear. He’s the real deal so if everyone could just fuck right off with the civility police bullshit that would be great. He doesn’t just play the role he lives it.
The Dow reported an estimated 37 million jobs lost, not sure whether that was with or without intervention. Treasury suggested 20% unemployment w/o intervention but didn’t say what would happen with it.
I think marcus is a good dude and never meant to imply that he wasn't being genuine. I just think he's wrong to care about civility in political conversations. It's inconsequential when we're talking about life and death policy
This is what the article says, “To see if their math checks out, the Oxford team is now working with researchers at the Universities of Cambridge and Kent to begin antibody testing as soon as this week. ‘We need immediately to begin large-scale serological surveys — antibody testing — to assess what stage of the epidemic we are in now’” Think you’re picking nits here. We should start getting the preliminary results very soon, and you don’t need to test millions to build a statistically significant model on something like this. It’s not like running a political poll or something—the results are either yes or no and there’s no room for subject bias.
Just saw that a Danish supermarket is combating hoarding of hand sanitizer by pricing one bottle at 40 Kroner (roughly $4 USD), but if you try to buy multiple bottles the price per bottle jumps to 1000 Kroner (roughly $100).
I had possibly the dumbest conversation with a Trump supporting friend of mine (I know). Some of the highlights. ~Businesses shouldn't close until an employee contracts Covid. ~People should go back to work next week because the economy can't fail. No reply when I explained the economy fails about every 10 years. ~Obama let 10 million people die from a sickness as POTUS but he couldn't remember the name. ~His sister in law goes to the hospital once a month without paying because she's poor and doesn't have to pay. I asked about Medicaid for her and her 6 kids and asked why she wasn't on it and it's because she doesnt take handouts (she's on welfare). ~Healthcare should be 100% privatized but there should be something similar to Obamacare which put hospitals put of business ~Edit: I forgot this one but he said you should help people as long as it doesnt cost too much. I asked why people never bring up how are we going to pay for it with the military and his reply was to question why we got into WWII (He was wrong) and whether that was worth it? ~The GOP is pro people and the Dems are anti people. The original Republican stimulus planw going to give everyone $3k a month. Dems shot it down because they want to push solar. ~Obama bailed out the country in 2008 and companies bought back their stonks. Those same companies invested the money in their employees in 2017. ~The elderly white couple that got sick and died from listening to Trump happened because MSNBC aired the story. I asked why Trump wasn't to blame or whether it's more likely they saw it on Fox News and he had no answer. ~Gas prices are low because Trump bought $300 TRILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF OIL FROM THE SAUDIS! I try to never talk politics with this guy but he kept baiting me and I was bored. I asked for sources for this info and evidently it's out there if you don't watch MSNBC (I don't). This is what they are hearing daily. Its sad. I sent a few links explaining why he's is such a moron and he claimed victory.
My wife may think I'm crazy for packing us a couple go bags, just in case we need to get the fuck out of dodge for a few days. I don't know, maybe I am. I've been basically stuck at home since Nov.
Fair. I tried to preface that a bit and do realize the left posters are generally more opinionated and aggressive (except for Why?Pokes and his insistence of playing an expert on everything). But yeah, my main point (besides being annoyed) was to make marcus more aware of how he was coming off and how obnoxious it could be. And yes, the "I don't have all the info but I'm going to play cop anyway" made it worse and set me off. But I think your angle has merit.
Looks like there is some oversight to the slush fund and expanded unemployment benefits for four months. I'll be interested to see who qualifies. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5e79160cc5b6f5b7c5493fe3
it's always a shame that no one takes anything seriously until it hits close to them you've been saying for a week or two now how hazardous your place of work is and im genuinely sorry that they suck so much
Borders are closed but I have it on good authority that the border just north of Skagway, Alaska is open to allow residents better grocery options.
Good job dems. Corporations gonna get double the money that goes to the people. But over the past 24 hours, the elements of the proposal have come into sharper focus, with $250 billion set aside for direct payments to individuals and families, $350 billion in small business loans, $250 billion in unemployment insurance benefits and $500 billion in loans for distressed companies.
that's a 0.3% decrease in new cases from the previous days increase % (was 24.47% increase yesterday, 24.17% today)
Gonna repost as my last post was vague and unhelpful from the car. Terry Gross has Max Brooks on tonight for a very good interview. Went into the type of federal response that we’ve planned for in these types of situations. Worth a listen if you’ve got 40 minutes at work tomorrow. https://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/ Yuge Terry Gross fanboi and when I need a devastating cry I listen to her last interview with Maurice Sendak before he passed. She’s the best
Your point is well taken. However, 99.999999% of what's posted here is inconsequential. Whatever conclusions are made here have virtually no bearing on the real world.
