Do you use this often? Just reading the cliff notes on the site now.

Shipment from beserker day got delayed. I’m going to be curious to see what kind of shape it is in. Probably going to take about 8 days to get to me. Luckily it got out of California.

I have an embarrassment of riches right now though. We are running out of space in our small wine fridge. Looks like we are going to have to expand.

I had about 10 different deliveries from BD and they were all packaged/arrived perfectly. There are some decent deals going on now if you haven't checked it out. Franny Beck Cellars is a BD discovery of mine that I will purchase more of at some point.

So you've had a good experience? I'm curious as I definitely don't lean towards the Napa Cab/CA Chard palate.

My wine club did a deal with free shipping and 20% off. Arrived the next day. They are hurting with no tastings. Trying to support the people I like.

Lot of wine being consumed in my house recently.

So far so good. They have a little of everything and their mystery picks are usually very very good value. Sometimes they offer unique food items as well (think small batch olive oil, canned tomatoes from Italy, etc). Kind of unique in that they offer lots of hard to get WA wines, smaller label European natural wines, and once in a while aged stuff from great producers.

I prefer Full Pull (similar format) to garagiste, but I also don't get much into the mystery game.

Both I only like to get access to stuff I can't buy in MI.

I think we are about to see some great deals where a garagiste or Full Pull will excel. I got an email yesterday from Gramercy Cellars that was a clear sign the loss of restaurant sales is causing inventory to build. They have one wine, Lower East, that is only sold to restaurants (to offer a by-the-glass pour), with most of the balance going through Full Pull, that they were offering to customers at wholesale prices with free shipping. Buy more and you get a mystery wine from the cellar.

With their tasting room closed, Frog's Leap is doing a weekly online tasting series on Zoom, Instagram and then is later uploaded to YouTube.

Here is the first if you want to watch.

It is more conversation over wine than technical tasting. They're offering the wines they will be tasting on their website so that you can ship ahead of time to taste with them (but totally not necessary).

Does anybody else see cool ideas coming out of wineries to reach their customers?

This seems like it would be pretty cool. Would help as I try and learn more about wine. Though when I check their website, I don't see anything talking about this or about the shipping ahead of time. I am assuming I am an idiot and just missing it.

I got an email so I just followed that but it doesn't look like they tweaked the website much. If you scroll down the online store they have the wines and info.

Menelaus how often do your requests "hit" with garagiste? I requested a pair of those Marlborough sauv blancs, a case of the 2013 Angela Estate pinot noir, and a pair of the 2011s. Kind of excited but don't know how excited to be.

Is there a code that needs to be used for the 50% off? When I go through it as a guest there is no discount applied.

    THE WINE CLUB

We have so many great club members who have stuck with us, so we have decided to make some changes to the wine clubs.

The originals clubs have been renamed Legacy Silver, Legacy Gold and Legacy Platinum. They were previously known as the Discovery 3 Bottle, Discovery 6 Bottle and Discovery 12 bottle clubs respectively. Since we do not currently anticipate any new releases the clubs have no requirements regarding purchases. All three have had their discounts changed to 25% for bottles and 60% for cases. Yes, mixed cases qualify. We could have moved everyone into a single Legacy club but due to the amount of work and all the emails it would have generated, we decided to keep them separate. They all provide the same in the way of benefits. All these clubs are closed to new members.

We have repurposed the Discovery club name into a new club. Since we are trying to work through our remaining inventory this club is open to new or returning club members. As with the Legacy clubs, there are no purchase commitments. The discounts for this club are 20% on bottles and 50% on cases (mixed cases too).

For all clubs we hope to have a “pickup day” once per month for all orders placed online. Since we want everyone to be safe, these will come about once restrictions for group gatherings are lifted or we are able to easily schedule pickups. We will announce the dates once we have them nailed down and things are a little more normal.

In the meantime, and for ALL club members and customers, we are offering complimentary delivery for all orders of six or more bottles of wine in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties. Depending on the volume of orders, we plan to have them processed and either delivered or shipped within one week. For deliveries, we will coordinate a date and time with you since we are unable to leave wine at your door. Someone over the age of 21 is required to receive the delivery. We will check IDs, but from a distance. Shipping will be weather permitting. The cost for shipping is a flat $20 for 6 or less bottles, and $35 for up to a case, anywhere in the contiguous United States, where shipping is allowed.

Nice. I picked up 4 of the 2017 Matthews Cab and 4 of the Williamette Valley Pinot mystery. I'm probably going to take a little time off from buying. I just got a bunch of 2014 and 2015 Fontodi Chianti Clasico and some 2015 Brunello. Quarantine life just makes me research and buy more wines.

Also - You can pay to have them ship it to you as soon as it arrives, just costs more. Just email them if you need something rushed.

I’m pretty reserved on garagiste (usually). Problem is I am also on an NY area email list that has insane value and free delivery to NYC.

The emails are hard to resist when you get a narrative of the wine and backstory. Just remember, we are in the midst of a dislocation and you’ll get better deals in 6-12 months.

I got an email from a place in Montalcino we visited on our honeymoon. They run what is essentially a bread and breakfast and winery. He said their revenue is down 90%-95%. I'm going to try to figure out how to buy wine and have it imported because I really like them. But also, it gives a picture in to what is on the horizon with all of the restaurants shut down which completely eliminates a sales channel for most major wineries.

I sense everybody is unless they only sell through a closed mailing list which is about .1% of wineries.

I spent a couple hundred bucks this week on wine from people we like to support small business. Will probably do that in April also but I can’t keep that up on top of the wine club shipments.

How are you navigating this? I'm pretty new to the wine game. Have focused much of my attention on Burgundy region.

Are you trying to Vivino them before buying? Or just taking chances?

I have a general sense for styles and regions I like. I'm wary of Vivino because I think a lot of reviewers have much different (therefore obviously shitty tbh) taste than me. I do check it some tho.

    YOLO it.

There are way more qualified people than me ITT but that's pretty Bordeaux imo, especially right bank that's more merlot heavy. You get some funky mineral earthy Burgundy, as well. Oregon pinots rather than California pinots.
