Agree. I was more thinking ahead to the inevitable opinion columns from pundits saying it's too bad we elected a dolt as president. Someone who just didn't know how to be president. This bastard has made multiple, conscious decisions to send thousands of Americans to their death.
they should be permanently banned pending a public apology pinned to their account that takes it back
Meals on Wheels tells KTVU that its waiting list for seniors wanting to sign up for its meal delivery program grew by 50 percent in the last week https://sfist.com/2020/03/25/low-income-seniors-at-mission-sro-go-hungry-after/
They’re also choosing to skip over the fact that while unemployment check would go up, they still wouldn’t have insurance and would have no gain to stay unemployed.
but it’d be fun to hear them say that they don’t believe workers that have been deemed essential to the country’s economic health don’t deserve to be paid more than minimum wage
Yeah, said the same thing to myself as I read your 2nd line. They are just going to get sick too. Welp, I guess some kids that joined the NG trying to pay for 80k in college so they could have a better life will soon die for our select billionaires so we can capitalism. Great Capitalism
As of right now. 9,000+ new cases 113 deaths Another 8-13 hours in the day, so those numbers will likely grow. Most states report an early afternoon count and an evening count
I thought they wanted economic spending to boost the economy? Do they think people bringing in $14,400 annually are gonna hoard piles of cash when they get $45k annually instead? Spoiler: they’ll buy stonks and get really rich
Yes, unfortunately I have a lot of friends and family in Florida, and some of my friends brains are just poisoned by the propaganda. I had one friend asking me if I knew that just over 1% of the population dies every year. I told him that I hope he is not asking me that in order to justify why another 1% isn’t that bad. The funny thing is that the same friend gets so crazy every time there is a hurricane. We actually call him hurricane Jay. He sends out all the warnings and tells people they should take it seriously. I told him he needs to think of this as a hurricane that hits the entire country all at once. Hoping that got through to him.
What is going on with NY to have such high numbers? Better testing finally? I know it's a highly populated state, but they have astronomical numbers.
High testing, heavy travel through the airport, close living. Atlanta's hit big because of the airport too.
This logic by republicans just is hilarious. "Businesses and those making the most money didn't see this coming, they shouldn't get penalized" then oh sorry people a whopping four months of full salary if you are unemployed is going to have the whole economy shut down. Just comical.
the real issue is that people will be incentivized to create and release deadly novel pathogens. ECO 101
Can you imagine, poor people may actually feel good for a few weeks? That can’t happen. Let’s stick our boots back on their heads.

From The Read Option: The coronavirus pandemic has put a lot of people and organizations in bad shape. There are so many worthy beneficiaries for donation dollars that picking one, or even a small handful, feels overwhelming. So we’ve put together a non-exhaustive list of a few worthy causes. Your local food bank. The economic crisis that’s come along with this health crisis has made it harder for people to feed themselves and their families. Feeding America will direct you to food banks in your area that could use your help. You might choose to donate to the national organization, which supports giving initiatives all over. You can also buy this shirt from Homefield Apparel, with 100% of the proceeds going to Feeding America: Initiatives to feed kids during school closures. Closing schools was a necessary public health step, but it shouldn’t take food off the table for kids who depend on school lunches. No Kid Hungry works to make sure as many kids as possible get fed. Cross-categorical organizations that support people on the front lines. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy gets high marks from watchdogs for how efficiently it spends its dollars, and it has a COVID-19 Response Fund that goes toward healthcare workers, people in quarantine (especially the most vulnerable), and promotional efforts to ensure good hygiene. A fund for your area’s service industry workers. In some cities, organizations are fundraising to give money and meals to service industry employees like restaurant workers. This page has information on places you can donate in a handful of cities. This page takes you to a national fund. This page takes you to a handful of organizations working on everything from reducing food waste to supporting bartenders to providing legal advice for small restaurant owners. If you’re interested in donating to workers in New York City, where many thousands of restaurant workers’ livelihoods are at risk, here are many places to do so. Tip lavishly. Maybe that’s your delivery driver. Or you could go up to someone who’s working in your grocery store, ask them for their Venmo name (while keeping a safe distance), and throw them a few bucks for a good meal or two, or whatever you can swing at this time. Send money to literally whoever you think deserves it. There are a bunch of things we could do that would make people’s lives a little easier right now. Here’s a whole page at Charity Navigator with even more destinations to consider for your money. Nobody is going to shame you for not giving enough unless you are, like, an NBA team owner worth $5 billion. Is that you? Or you could give to the most righteous cause of all: Ole Miss, by following the school’s request to change your will mid-pandemic and bequeath some dollars their way. Behold, a real email sent to prospective donors on Tuesday: Is it distasteful for a university that costs $20,000 a year in-state to use the occasion of a global pandemic to ask people to write it into their wills? Who can say? What we know for sure is that shooters shoot. And think of all the good work your money could do for you in Oxford. A legal defense fund for forthcoming lawsuits brought by Houston Nutt! A piece of Lane Kiffin’s buyout, because you can never start fundraising too early for something you’ll want in two and a half years! Money to go directly into the hands of players and recruits! That last one’s not a joke, and best believe the people at Ole Miss will not take it as one if that’s how you earmark your donation.
I mean, send $1500 to individuals and some sensible amount to small businesses. It's been 11 Fn days.
I don’t think that is how unemployment works. Pretty sure you can’t quit your job and apply for unemployment. You need to be fired or let go. Is that different with the bill?
