I am laid off as I’m a restaurant manager here in San Diego. As much as I’d like to go back to work because in a couple of months I’ll be really hurting, my gf has severe asthma and if she gets sick then it’d be real bad. And being around a bunch of people at work (coworkers and customers) would mean I’d likely have to stay away from her on the chance I get it. That said, I fully expect Gov Newsom to keep the shelter in place through May at least.
Just curious. Trauma Centers are specialized for treating physically injured patients. Is a Level 1 Trauma Center better situated for treating COVID-19 patients than, say, a Level 3 Trauma Center?
As noted below, lag in pending tests makes it hard to model As the frequency of testing has gone up, so has the rate of positive cases. For example, California has close to 50,000 pending tests and their positive rate to date is 14.1%. Assuming that holds true, their positive cases increase 2.6x in an instant.
All of this is starting to get kind of scary, or I should say I’m more scared of that petting zoo for an administration in Washington. I know it shouldn’t come as a surprise but I’m having a tough time wrapping my head around the idea that Trump and his team are willing to risk the lives of Americans just to get economy up and going. I guess all we can do is share data and sources from medical professionals with our family and friends. I’ve been keeping tabs on a couple older gentlemen that I attend Mass with making sure they aren’t going to coffee at the bar in the AM and then for beers at 4. Crazy times.
I don't pay very close attention to who wins governor races but this crisis has revealed that there are a lot of states with shitty governors Idaho's governor, for example, was acting like this was all a big hoax until earlier today when he shut everything down.
Discussed this last Saturday with another couple when we were both walking the beach to gain some fucking perspective. Northern Italy is a nice central spot, close to skiing/mountains and the Mediterranean/Adriatic, and Italy is already selling properties for dirt cheap
Was texting with my brother after I posted that. We both love Italy. Now, if only we survive this bitch...
It's probably a little callous to be thinking of potential opportunities at this point, but we can think of it as helping the Italian economy via external stimulus But yeah, go halfsies with another entity, and have a cheap perfect overseas haven/jumpoff point going forward.
My mom lives in a senior center. Not assisted living, just apartments with a dining room that gives them three squares a day included with rent. They had their first positive confirmed yesterday. I’ve been bringing meals for my mom so she didn’t have to leave her apartment. A few days ago she came down with a cough but no fever. Today her nurse that organizes her medicine for her came by and her O2 was very low and she said she thinks she has pneumonia. Mobile X-ray came out to do images and her doctor confirmed double pneumonia. She was also tested today for covid so we will see. Not looking good.
This could be wonderful for our business, especially since the cash payout won't help us personally. Everybody is still working remotely, but the nature of wife's business (structural engineering) is that shocks don't get felt until 9-12 months down the road. We can bank two months payroll for the lean times that we expect to hit at the end of the year, and if those lean times never materialize then we'll have some cushion going forward and give out yearend bonuses for our employees to stimulate the economy through consumer spending - or just give a big check to the local food bank because nobody should go hungry in the richest fucking country in the world
Damn. That’s pretty rough for both of you, COVID or not. Don’t forget to take care of yourself during this worrisome time.
Trauma centers are generally categorized as such because they carry 24 hour in-house services for general surgery and a wide range of specialties (orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, burns, anesthesiology, cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, etc.), so they're more equipped in the sense that there are more resources readily available, but depending on the region, there's probably level 3s that are capable of handling their fair share of Covid-19 patients.
Oh I mean they all pretend to know what the fuck they're doing until shit hit's them in the fucking face. We will be over 2000 Cases tomm. I was told about a positive case that went though 2 weeks ago where I worked(hotel). We weren't aware until 5 days later after they had tested positive. Son(2) got sick a few days later, then wife got sick and then I got sick. Feel beter since then but its been awhile..
And people wonder why Coach O leaves Baton Rouge to go to church in Mandeville. But seriously I think there are several maintaining large services in the area.
Most of my family is in Nola area still and we now apparently have the worst rate of increase of any city in the world (Reuters). Mardi Gras occuring and our continual insistence to mass congregate - this was sadly predictable.
It literally says testing will begin this week, and that they hope to roll out large-scale pop studies soon. My apologies if this has already been posted, but a U.K. health official director announced that they’ve purchased 3.5 million test units and expect to start distributing them within days: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-symptoms-public-health-england-a9424741.html
I applaud the shoes in that photo for being the only ones that know how to practice social distancing to any degree.
What the fuck "No you can't have subpoena power" - people who never intend to abuse their office, probably
The amount of hours doctors are working right now - unbelievable. I work a lot -but to say the consequences are vastly different is an absurd understatement. Also M.D.s having to help out with things not in their typical area of focus every day....
In a little positive news 90-year-old woman makes full recovery from coronavirus https://www.wbtw.com/news/90-year-old-woman-makes-full-recovery-from-coronavirus/?fbclid=IwAR0DD4OyRWq-WT3gzA5HNPewxDnUAZ-Y7edfPmxrqK7gT9N0p-d-bj7Ofak
FYI I drank no less than 20 bud lights, 2 glasses of Jameson, and two sailor Jerry’s with a splash of coke and I have to wake up in like 3 hours for “work” gonna be a good day
Work production stats have to be fascinating right now - I'm not sure I know anyone other than elderly relatives who isn't drinking heavily right now.
Working those long hours/lack of sleep will weaken their immune systems and they'll be more susceptible to getting infected.
A level 1 trauma center is the most comprehensive trauma designation a hospital can receive. And trauma is more than just car crash or gunshot victims, a Level 1 trauma center also has to have substance abuse programs available 24/7 to maintain their designation. Being a Level 1 means that particular hospital is set up to be a regional referral center for other nearby hospitals that may not have the same resources, and is expected to be able to provide a full field of treatment (preventative to rehab) for all referred patients. These centers are also supposed to be leaders to nearby hospitals, providing them with education, best practices, and resource sharing. the short answer to your question though is yes, a Level 1 is more suited to treat covid patients than a level 3.
