he's averaging their responses together to find the average predicted outcome by the experts polled. it's baby math to give a better idea of what the consensus is and limit the catastrophizing or super corona skeptics from getting all the attention. what a weird take
maybe why pokes is not the greatest source for news on this topic playing dress up with animals? yes i trust why pokes the state of wyoming and surrounding states/basically the same places in north dakota, south canada, montana and idaho? yes 100% i believe in why pokes virology? no thank you sir

not that there's anything wrong with cat dress up. I'm a big fan of dogs wearing bowties but if I needed to consult an expert in animal dress up I would certainly do so
He’s smeared a thin veneer of respectability on a bit you would otherwise find abhorrent: “Coming up next! We’ve asked twenty people how many will die from the Coronavirus, and the results will shock you. But first, a word from our sponsors.”
My dad's nurse just got back from Mexico where she ate dominoes pizza, because she doesn't like Mexican food. She is redneck though.
wonder what happens when the US surpasses everyone, even China in deaths. Will that not make even the most hardcore trumpers realize how grossly mismanaged this has all been?!?
zero chance, they'll say everyone elses data isn't accurate (ignoring neither is ours), they'll talk about per capita stats to obfuscate (which we'll undoubtedly lead in as well) and they'll talk about there was nothing we could have done to prevent it
Yeah, Cuomo back a group called the Independent Democratic Conference, which was basically a group of blue dog democrats in the New York senate who caucused with the republicans to prevent the democrats from having a majority in both chambers in the state. He did this because he didn't want to get progressive bills and either pass them or have to veto them. Cynthia Nixon's campaign pushed him to the left and those state senators lost in 2018. But you can't do that shit and sniff the nomination of the Democratic Party.
Its not a fucking handout to give a prominent DC hospital and designated coronavirus treatment center $13m
clay travis, steve deace, jesse kelly they are the only ones with deep enough thinking to clearly see the real truth
like are we getting mad at reporters at NYT/WaPo doing emotionally jarring stories about the virus because they're getting paid for it and the paper is making money off ads? is that where we're at?
The virus doesn’t care what the consensus is. It is what it is—low side, high side, doesn’t matter. You can’t reliably predict what it will do by asking a handful of people their opinions and then averaging it the same way you predict elections. That’s an extremely irresponsible way for Nate to use his clout as a stats guy and drive traffic to his money-maker.
I for one don't like Nate Silver because he keeps dishonestly trying to trick me into thinking he isn't bald.
so two things, he's asking experts, not just people off the street. second, after spending weeks highlighting anyone with a conservative opinion on corona you get mad that someone is highlighting people across the spectrum while saying all the takes across the spectrum are invalid? i'm so lost this is low key one of the dumbest things i've seen someone get mad about
Someone suggested that since 5g was released in population centres first, and viruses do the best where population is concentrated, that he might confusing correlation with causation. He responded with "don't give me that bullshit." Now everyone is dog piling on the guy who suggested that 5g might not be the cause of the Corona outbreak and he's apologized. Such memorable quotes as "Corona has been around forever. Now we have 5g and it magically can jump person to person?" Or "we just need more evidence that 5g is causing it. Once we have evidence it will stop being just a theory." And this is why Facebook should have just left it at .edu addresses.
I work with someone who swears he had it back in February. Was diagnosed with pneumonia and a bunch of other people in his department got the "flu"
More people die in car accidents involving Japanese cars every year than died on 9/11. Maybe we invaded the wrong two countries.
The NYT/WaPo have a duty to cover this. We could have a fairly lengthy discussion on their ethics and approach to reporting an event of such magnitude, but that’s not really the point. Silver has no background covering health topics, which, okay whatever every media personality under the sun is throwing their take at it so fine. All I’m saying is take his opinion for what it is, and don’t get upset just because there are glaring flaws in his methodology.
