I listened to a Jason Kreis interview a couple of weeks ago in which he remarked that it has been difficult getting clubs to release players for the Olympics. It’s in the first segment of the 2/13 program. http://979espnradio.hipcast.com/rss/the_soccer_guys.xml
Apparently he’s Dabo’s Godson and was set to kick for them until 3 days ago when FCD signed him to a contract. Then he starts immediately and played super well. Interesting to say the least.
yep .was going to be a kicker or punter and the star of our soccer team. pretty cool to see him do well so early.
Also during this broadcast they said Jesus, Cannon, and Pax would all be released for Olympic qualifying. Thank you based FCD.
Yeah the EPB pull was interesting (he did score a game winner recently and has been putting in decent minutes though).
Will be interesting if Mike goes with a 4-3-3 like GGG runs or a 4-4-2 that he’s always used. I’ll assume a 4-4-2. —————-Ochoa Cannon—Glad— McKenzie —Gloster ——————Yuiell ———Pomykal——Bofo ————— Aaronson ———Jesus———Ebobisse
This is the year they’ve circled since his debut as the selling year. He had a nice growth spurt over the past 4-6 months. Lost the baby fat in his face, grew a few inches and has filled out. No longer looks like a kid playing vs a bunch of grown ups.
Ok. You’ve persuaded me that he has matured. I’m a bit of a fan of La Viola. How do they get past the €10 M/€4 M divide?
And if he doesn’t take your money you’ll get his studs to the back of the calf. Hell, you might get them if he DOES take your money.
heard the same last week. my kid is a year away from DA. I think covid has contributed to this, as many clubs will fold because people aren't paying for no practices/games until who knows when or in best case scenarios - Zoom practices. I think it's been a bigger issue than just covid tho
I mean, I’m all for the USSF not training the youth, but not having a youth program seems insanely stupid.
there's also ECNL, where kids can compete for clubs and still participate for high school teams, but it's not the same. could be that the DA stuff is for this season only. who knows.
I just hope that American clubs keep introducing youth programs. I know MLS teams have to but I hope it starts extending to USL teams, etc
Sounds like the ECNL and MLS academies had passed by the DA. https://theathletic.com/1746877/202...-boys-and-girls-development-academy-programs/
I really do not like the idea of leaving talent development basically entirely up to MLS clubs when we have clubs like Chicago that don’t even want academies. Our scouting is so bad and limited already
Tuesday’s report is now confirmed: The U.S. Soccer Federation has terminated its Development Academy after 13 years, calling it “a difficult financial decision.” The federation says the decision is an effect of the coronavirus pandemic, which has “resulted in a financial situation that does not allow for the continuation of the Development Academy program into the future.”
The most interesting part of all of this is that MLS will “absorb all expenses for players attending and participating in the regional competitions at select age levels. MLS say they will “eliminate financial barriers” and “ensure talented players can be seen and scouted during their formative years.”
