Those three are great together so anytime they do a podcast I’m game. Sean calls Bill on his shit and Chris is like the happy little brother trying to please them both.
I figured he was based on where it sounds like he lives. He said on a recent pod he wasn’t a millionaire. I forget the context, but he said something about billionaires and millionaires, and added he wasn’t one.
Doubt he is one. I can’t imagine him making more than $250k or so a year at ESPN and I doubt the Ringer is paying him anymore than that. i know he might have a deal with a studio to write some pilots but again I doubt he’s pulling in a million a year. Also, throw in how expensive CA is to live and taxes.
So Bill said Hopkins is a catch the ball in traffic kind of guy, and not someone that can run past two defensive backs deep? lol trade about Brady not having people in his life who can talk him out of doing something—like Jerry Rice to the raiders. Ya... that Super Bowl rice played in with the Raiders.
Karate Kid rewatch coming on Thursday with Ryen. My top choice for a Rewatchables pod since they started.
I actually felt like Bill - or someone similarly non-serious like Mallory or Ryen - would have made the Edge of Tomorrow pod better. Sean and Chris produce probably 50% of the Ringer content I consume but I thought their pod was missing someone who would just note the common man things. The pod felt a little too much like The Big Picture or The Watch and I want something a little different for Rewatchables.
For the life of me i can not figure out what he was trying to say about Hopkins. He was somehow making it seem the Pats didn’t need him because he played the same role as N’keal Harry?
Basically saying Hopkins is a really good possession WR, who lacks speed. It was tough to suss out how it related to Harry, but Harry’s best case is becoming Hopkins (lol) I beginning to lose any respect at all for Bill’s football takes.
Assuming Robert Mays was burnt out on podcasts, but there's a huge dropoff when he's not on. I know Kevin Clark gets a lot of credit for some thoughtful outside the box stories and approaches, but Mays holds that podcast together. The last several sans Mays have not been good imo. Also not sure pulling back on pods is the best strategy just from a personal standpoint as you'd assume the Ringer is leaning in even harder there with the Spotify acquisition
ive thought Mayes and Clark didn’t get along for a while. Clark also gets the push, with slow news day, going on other pods, etc.
Yep. Mays hasn't been on a Simmons pod but a few times in the entire history of the site but Clark goes on that and Russillo's with somewhat regularity. Not to mention a Book of Basketball pod or two. Obviously being in LA helps, but not like he couldn't hop on with Bill for a quick phoner every now and then.
Stumbled a little bit. Said that some practice that was supposedly filmed never actually was. And then added in some stuff about deflategate
audibly shouted "Oh no!!!" when Bill told Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament that he thinks Greta Van Fleet has a shot
late larry here, Edge of Tomorrow episode was pretty meh 1/2 way through Karate Kid...laughing my butt off
Karate Kid one was great. I will definitely listen again this weekend doing yard work. I still need to watch Edge of Tomorrow before I listen. I’m halfway through Bill and Ryen redrafting the 1996 NBA draft. That draft was loaded.
Didn't really know how I felt about the Draft gimmick but I quickly became a fan. That was a fun listen. Karate Kid pod was absolutely awesome.
1996 Draft had: Kobe Bryant Steve Nash Allen Iverson Ray Allen Stephon Marbury Antoine Walker Ben Wallace Marcus Camby Peja Stojakovic Jermaine O'Neal
Justin Bieber's manager told him they were the next big deal in rock so obviously Bill's now an expert on "where things are going"
in that case their music sounds like it was generated by a spotify "related artists" algorithm focused on people who like led zeppelin so i'm going to guess that they are not the next big thing
They are incredibly derivative and artificial, it's just a sound that no one has tried to do in like 40 years
They were trying to think of who would be next big US rock band and that was Bills contribution. Eddie and Jeff went silent.
no one sounds like robert plant. but yes in that style bill liking gvf is the most on-the-nose thing i think i've ever heard him say or learned about him
Bill being convinced Boston would’ve taken Kobe 9th is hilarious. “9-13 was his range. Taking him 6th would’ve been absurd.” The hypotheticals involving his teams he convinces himself to be 100% true are hilarious.
In his mind the Celtics are collectively owed Ralph Sampson, Kobe, TMac, Tim Duncan and Kevin Durant I know when I see all the empty seats at Rockets games I think "Man this team is really the heartbeat of the city"
Still listening to the ‘96 redraft pod. And I’m sorry you can’t keep saying “I’m pro Iverson” and spend the entire AI section talking him down. I agree with all their points but you’re not pro Iverson.
BOB can continue to fuck every single personnel move up and they'll still be way bigger and more important than the Rockets ever thought of being, even if Tilman doesn't default.
On a podcast with jimmy kimmel Was making fun of BOB for the Hopkins trade and was like that is why the Texans are a bottom 5 franchise that no one cares about. And then he mused that they’re behind the rockets and maybe even the Astros in houston
