To me the opening scene is basically perfect for TV like it is, if anything I want a little more stuff showing the breakout. If you do any less time with Sarah, you take the chance of lessening the impact of her death with fans who are new to the story.
Yeah, I think you have to open the same way. That opening is an absolute gut punch and I don't think it would have the same impact as a flashback.
i think the original god of war would make good tv, but they should probably stay away from the ongoing game series.
I could see them making 2-3 seasons work. The beginning portion with Tess and a bit after could be the first season. the overall story is fragmented out so it could definitely work but idk about more than 3 seasons
Opening scene of the game is a perfect prologue for tv and have first ep end with meeting Ellie as a good sort of bookend with beginning losing Sarah
It can't be just a rehash of the cutscenes, to make it stand on its own as a series, they'll have to show more of the offscreen stuff.
Imo episode 1 should be spent mostly on Joel and Tommy's background, some of Joel's life as a single parent, more stuff with Sarah for an even bigger gut punch to end it with the death and fade to black scene.
That would feel too much like the end of a story and not a cliffhanger to tune back in. (?) You need something for what is next. That's why I was saying flashbacks for televison although we all agree how great theooenk g scene was for the game.
That settles it. Haven’t played this in a few years. Going to pick it back up. TLOU is such an incredible experience.
They just announced that Gustavo will do the music for the show as well. Haven't been this excited about a show since the pilot of Walking Dead, which coincidentally was the only great episode of that show. Few good ones after that and then it went straight over the cliff. But they didn't have Neil so I am not worried
The only fear I have about the show is that they go TWD route and bloat the story. Ride the outline, man and stick with it. I’m ok with moving this around and cutting some things but if they start adding needless shit like TWD then I’m gonna be sad asf
Definitely true. The shitty part about TWD was that they added shit that wasn't in the comics, like you said if they kept to stuff that Kirkman put in there, they would have been just fine. Having Neil be a primary writer, and with all the stuff he put in the story that was just hinted at, they have a ton to work with, no need to make anything up.
Bruh between this and all the fallout I’ve played my anxiety is through the roof. I’m fully aware that I can’t kill anyone over beans and it’s highly likely that I get bored after doing all the side quests and give up
Just release it digitally on the regular release date and let those who want to own a physical copy purchase one later. Jeez.
Sounds like WFH situation makes debugging less efficient don’t think it’s a digital/physical situation
Btw thanks for reminding me to preorder the physical copy as I still get a 20% discount through Best Buy
I would also rather Naughty Dog treat their programmers and developers right, especially right now, than to push them hard to get out a game just because we want it. The gaming industry has enough abuse in it that I'd rather reward a company that does it right.
I don't know because Naughty Dog definitely doesn't have a history of doing it right. They just had an article like two weeks ago about how bad it's been at ND.
Not to mention they’ve made it clear that they’re delaying because they can’t get physical copies out.
What king crabbing in Alaska is to the physical labor side, Crunch prior to deadline in the video game industry is to the mental labor side.
No I’m aware of their shitty practices I was just wondering where the idea that this delay was them being virtuous came from?
People just have a rosy picture of them because the only experience most have with them is from the customer side where they treat us far better than industry standards, so they equate "gave us fantastic games and didn't fill it with money grabbing MTX bullshit, their employees must love working there too"
Also I made that post when I still thought it was because the game itself wasn't ready. Geez, sorry guys. I'm fucking exhausted and only half paying attention to pretty much everything at this point.
CDPR has their own list of complaints against their work environment. There are very few game developers that don't do crunch of some kind.
I'm hearing a lot of talk about the subject material being too grim during this time for them to take the risk of releasing it right now. I believe exactly none of that. This series has to have one of the highest potential attach rates between people that bought the first game and will buy the sequel. We know the delay isn't helping with crunch. They're using it as an opportunity to address details that could've been overlooked but will now add to the breathtaking realism. This has to boil down to physical availability. I'm one of those assholes because of the Best Buy GCU membership (RIP) that gave 20% of all gaming purchases, plus the $10 reward preorder bonus. A lot of new titles effectively cost $38 to pick up physical copies. But I would have no issue if they were willing to release it digitally on the original (errrr not really) release date, then push back the physical release. If I wanted it bad enough, I'd gladly cancel my preorder and jump on it ASAP.
Both can be correct. The media at-large could absolutely hammer them for the release of the game while also not impacting sales due to the positive reception from within the industry.
I think it's 100% about them not being able to release physical copies. They don't want to release digital only and have a certain percent of the fan base know the story and spoil it for the people playing physical.
so many. its like they dont mind charging $50 for a title at launch because there's no physical distribution to worry about. steam, humble, etc etc etc. so many awesome deals constantly.
Imagine if console bro’s would let the disc die? We could be living in a world of release day deals and TLOU2 in May.
I remember when the rumor last gen was they were going to drop the disc drives and I was pumped. Sadly it didn't happen.
