And wasn’t it agholor that was visiting nd officially but ended up going to the sc locker room to talk to some players and coaches because he knew already he was going to sc?
Oh my god, more and more comes to my mind about that fucking game. Nd was a favorite by like 7 points, it had not happened for a while against sc. nd just seemed to have turned the corner after the disastrous start. rees drives the team down to the one but kelly sends dayne crist on the field to do the qb sneak.....he fumbles for a 99 yards td. But that was just one of the blunders, Smith facemask on back to back plays to gift sc a td. Kelly refuses to run the ball down by 7. On and on. I think Jonas gray touched the ball twice that game and he scored a 25 yards td
Pretty sure Manti sprained his ankle and they picked on him covering people. TE caught an easy TD on him. I thought Smith had another game with back to back face masks. I remember there was a day game, pretty sure it was Michigan I watched on TV. My dad loved that guy because the rest of us hated him.
maybe I am wrong, might’ve been the Michigan game but I think I am right. He was good all season long except for that usc game. Michigan never even through the ball near him if I remember correctly. And I don’t know how you could hate Harrison Smith, dude was so obviously talented and stupid tenuta forced him into a terrible spot.
But I really never got the hate for Harrison Smith, I guess most of you didn’t see how good he could be?
He was obviously talented and that's all we heard about. He was forced into playing OLB by a bad staff and didnt play well. We hated him the same way we hated Rees. He was what he was but the staff made them look like shit. When he moved to Safety he was obviously a stud. Tommy Rees 0/3 with 3 INTs to start that Oklahoma game was another one. Sent my wife into labor with the melt down I had. He is still not on the all hate team Schwapp John Ryan Trumbetti Marcus Wilson Gary Gray
How can you even compare rees to Harrison Smith? And how they were handled by the staff? I really don’t see it, Harrison Smith was a stud from the get go but of course weis almost fucked him up. Kelly came in and saw it right away « he is a safety for us, he is not playing linebacker here » rees was last resort because dayne crist was not good enough.
The way they used Rees. He was not a win it by himself guy and every game you would see Kelly with his fuckin play sheet dialing up a redzone INT. Rees vs FSU in the bowl game was a perfect example. Run the ball between the 20s Rees INT incoming. The way Smith was used prior to Kelly was much the same. Put this kid at OLB and watch him get swallowed on the edge every play. They never used him right
The rollout pass for the Tulsa loss, how do you make rees rollout and cut half the field for the defense....and I mean cut in half like cut in quarters because rees’ arm was so weak that it leaves you one option at the most. That fucking call and that was within fg distance.
All hate team captain: Tyler Newsome. I think our freshman punter this year put more punts inside the 20 in September than Newsome did in his entire career.
great call, what a fucking piece of shit newsome was trying and he had some good punts. A lot of good punts, finesse just wasn’t his thing
In retrospect I don’t blame Kelly for thinking his veteran OL could handle crowd noise at Georgia. Turns out those guys couldn’t handle dead silence at home, I honestly don’t think that’s Kelly’s fault. I played OL my whole career, I never jumped offsides once in a game. It’s not fucking hard to remember a snap count or watch the center . That’s mental weakness sorry drunk
It came out that book messed up the plan because he resorted back to the hand clap system Edit- reverted back....my bad
Kelly says they need to get started by June 15 with July 1 being the drop dead date if we are playing football. He is optimistic, I don't see it.
they were supposed to go to a silent count, but during the game book reverted back to doing the clap. He choked and forgot about the silent count, went back to what they used to do. Surprised you did not read about this
I know I don't post here a lot, but this was 10 years ago today: https://www.espn.com/college-football/news/story?id=5051968
But I understand what beist is saying, Pete Carroll won big time games. Choked in some but also won them with the same aggressiveness. but oh my god there is no way nd fans would even mention his name if the guy messed up a nc at notre dame with a stupid call like he did in Seattle in the super bowl, he would be the most hated coach ever
Except for that whole winning the prior Super Bowl thing. I’m so accustomed to the misery of Seattle sports that I thought for sure we were going to figure out how to lose the largest lead in SB history.
That’s not really true as ND fans still love Killy despite the 2012 Bama and 2018 Clemson debacle. Plus let not forget they even forgave him after he killed a kid. ND fans are very forgiving
What are you gonna do this fall when there's no ND football to hate and golf courses in the northeast are still closed? Better stock up on Weis/Willingham era all-22 tape.
