even in a genre with ridiculous album titles and band names in general, Where Owls Know My Name has to be one of the 5 worst album titles i've seen

I've been revisiting albums that I love over the past few days. A lot.

Individual Thought Patterns by Death absolutely rules. The playing is so tight with these weird transitions all album long. I still think Human is better, for my own taste at least, but good lord the playing on ITP is so good

 

I also assume that I'm listening to a remaster because Gene Hoglan is blasting my ears off but I don't mind it

 

i've listened to this song like 40 times since friday btw

the rhythm guitar/bass riff during the big solo here owns

 

most bands would kill for a riff like that, but Death just throws it in under the MASSIVE Andy LaRocque solo

 

some King Diamond albums are being re-released. i pre-ordered Abigail.

Let’s talk about Mercyful Fate/King Diamond. vocals are an acquired taste, but I very much like Melissa, Don’t Break The Oath, Abigail, and Them.

some of the other albums are far too cheesy for me, but in general, MF/KD belongs in the same breath as Maiden and Judas Priest.

those early albums have some great metal riffs

if I can be completely honest Julie Christmas made Cult of Luna infinitely more enjoyable tbh

I realize that's like an impossible quantification but honestly you just have to trust me here

 

album also shows that a track can't go wrong as long as "Cygnus" is part of the title*

I really liked the latest Cult of Luna release but yeah Mariner was a great album

well youtube recommended this Slift album to me and I couldn't resist, about five minutes deep into this thing and yes

Guitar wise it reminds me immediately of Earthless.

 

i'm listening to Emperor of Sand by Mastodon again after watching that Brann Dailor drumming video

i wonder if there is a point when a band's playing gets to a certain point, and maybe their fame, that we just don't really care about what they are doing.

 

i mean this isn't a great album but it's pretty solid

 

I stand by my original opinion of the album.

 

the guitar-playing is so good that it makes me reconsider my own

maybe i'm just lit but bill kelliher is like the best riff guy from the past 20 years. and this album is so good in that way, but they just bury him so badly on like every song

Just checked my 'notes', I liked Precious Stones and Andromeda. That's it, just the two songs.

Listening to it again now, still like it. Not great, but nothing on this album is.
