The Edge doc is really good. WWE could toss these docs on now till we are allowed crowds back in a arena and I would be happier then a pig in shit
ahhhhhh guurrllllll we're seeing the formation of Pretty Mean Sistas here Terri really was a fun time
man this medical center really needs to up its security, just let Taker come in and smother Austin with a pillow before dragging him out to a hearse like it was nothing
Simon Miller today on whatcluture ups and downs said that Edge v Orton was the second longest match in Wrestlemania history...
It was, after the IRON MAN match at WM12. It managed to be longer than the WM2000 main-event that was a four-man elimination match.
I was a few beers deep, but it put my ass to sleep. Was in and out of consciousness during the Funhouse match, but I thought I was on acid. I have to rewatch that again today.
last man standing matches tend to be the worst. they can be done well, but very rarely. Usually they just end up being "walkabouts" like we had here, with one guy in a loose headlock, being led around to different parts of the arena, being hit with stuff before the ref sloooowly counts to 9 about fifty times.
The gargano/ciampa LMS match I thought was really good. But agree they are mostly way too drawn out. Should just have iron Man matches or best 2 of 3 falls for those stories that warrant it
According to Meltzer (and Charlotte in an interview indicated this may be the case too), Charlotte will appear on Raw and NXT going forward. Great, just what we wanted, even more Charlotte...this weekends mania exceeded my expectations and so did this years rumble. However they have succeeded in burying most the womens roster beside the 4 horsewoman in the process. Charlotte beats the NXT womens champion who has been built up to beat the unstoppable Shayna, and does do relatively easy. Speaking of Shayna, she jobs out the entire Raw womens contender scene in elimination chamber in way to her match with Becky, and losses. Over on SD, I mean look who is on their roster outside of Bayley and Sasha, a whole lot of nothing. The story is centered on those two. Sorry for going off on a mini rant, but as good as the 4 horsewoman were for getting the womens division on the map, they have sure stunted anyone approaching getting to their level. From Asuka, Ember Moon, Kairi Sane, Shayna Baszler, to Rhea Ripley just to name a few. They have talent to have an incredibly deep division, but instead those 4 have turned into 4 John Cenas or something. Charlotte has been the worst, but Becky and the other two are right there as well.
The only upside is Charlotte won't have NXT crowds to boo her, but I'm guessing she will fulfill Vince's destiny as She-Roman with the go away heat she'll get. Can't imagine that crowd will back her.
Lets take Shayna and Rhea out of this conversation because I believe the story is just getting started for them. who is worth the spotlight? Now I do blame WWE for calling up some for the talent way to early to rush this Revolution. But with that said who’s established as a well rounded talent worth a big time role? Mela Tamina Naomi Lacey Moon Liv Logan Maria Lana Dana Mickey most of these females are jobber level
Finally watched the Firefly Funhouse Match. That was awesome. Three quick thoughts: 1. It worked specifically because there was no inane commentary walking me through it basically telling me what I'm seeing like I'm an idiot or blind. 2. It worked because it told a story, which is always the reason 99% of all wrestling matches work, whether they are athletic exhibitions or weird cinematic things like this. 3. It worked in a way the normal matches didn't, specifically Edge/Orton and the title matches, because it didn't try to be "WWE as usual, only without the crowd." That's just awkward and weird. Wrestling without a crowd is like Star Wars without John Williams... It just doesn't work. This (and presumably the Boneyard match; I haven't watched it yet) was an example of WWE not trying to carry on as though nothing has changed. They embraced the circumstances and did something different. As a result they finally achieved a true "sports-entertainment" exhibition.
This match and the boneyard match were the highlight of Mania weekend. I think some of the normal WWE matches did really well. Both title matches blew because Brock probably just wanted to get the fuck out and Goldberg can’t wrestle... at any point of his career
I guess it's just a personal thing. I feel weird watching a traditional wrestling match without the crowd, even if it's a small Full Sail crowd of a few hundred. I don't feel as embarrassed watching with a crowd because I see that at least a few other people are watching and cheering too. I think it just takes me out of kayfabe when I watch without an audience. It makes it *more* fake.
I was just happy to see that all 4 guys in those matches completely bought in. Those matches epic fail if those guys half ass it.
I’m with you on this, I’ve had my fill of these empty arena shows. Didn’t tune into RAW I hope all these company’s just put a pause. In WWEs case just air the amazing docs you have and past major shows. stop risking employees to tape these shows most people are tuning out because wrestling needs the live reaction from a crowd.
I'm still thinking about the Firefly Funhouse two days later. I can't remember the last time that was the case with anything WWE-related. Probably Wrestlemania 30. Cena does huge kudos for taking a risk like that and buying into Bray's vision. He could have easily pushed for a BS segment with Elias or a burial of Corbin.
I agree most of them are jobbers, but I also think people like Ember, Kairi and Asuka could be way higher up card than they are. Charlotte in ring and Becky character work are clearly better, but they could all be at least on or above Bayley level imo. I loved Sasha in NXT, but let's be honest it's not like she hasn't struggled in main roster. Hell, some of the others could be on that level as well but we wont know because Charlotte just wins 25 titles and we dont see what others can do.
I just don’t see it within the division. I do agree Charlotte is built and booked so strong but she’s clearly the best all around performer, has name recognition to current and former fans. WWE issue is not being able to mold the under card and it’s probably why your seeing the influx of NXT talent
The tag titles are a big problem too, the division would be fine with the 4 horsewoman, Alexa, Asuka, Kairi, Ember Moon, Naomi, and to a less extent Liv, Mela, Sonya, and even some of the others to make up the numbers. And that's even without Shayna and Bianca who appear to be on main roster now. Instead probably the 3 most credible non horsewoman are in tag matches, Ember is (injured?) and they jobbing out the NXT girls and all of a sudden that division doesn't look too deep anymore
WWE has way to many titles. They also don’t give most mid card talent storylines both for the men and especially the women
WWE burns through ruined main-roster talent, throws them out, and replaces them with new and not yet ruined NXT talent like a guy in a sinking boat tosses out water with a bucket.
The Otis match, had it actually made the original WM card, would’ve got a huge pop because they actually did a nice job building a mid card angle there. Which is so rare for WWE.
It was a really well done program. curious who the masked man who exposed Dolph and Sonya is. Lots of people think it’s Ali
When you book Charlotte like 1980s Hulk Hogan of course you aren't going to have competition for her.
